Cranberries singer Dolores o Riordan was arrested on arrival from an EI flight into SNN this morning from JFK. The singer supposedly assaulted a cabin crew member on board with the cabin crew member ending up in A&E on arrival, she then went on to assault the arresting Gardaí. This type of behaviour should have serious consequences.

The Indo headline mentioned "alleged air rage".
Funny how she was in custody if it is an supposedly or allegeded incident.

I agree that incidents like this need to be dealt heavily with. I believe the courts in the SNN area are used to this and have heard all the excuses before.

We'll see when it gets to court what actually happened.

Arrested only on suspicion of a crime being committed...the word allegedly could only be dropped upon conviction...got to be careful of the lawyers!

I can't see her getting away easily with this..

If she was just causing a nuisance, it could have been a fine but supposedly assaulting a CC member and a garda

    Now apparently been hospitalised.

Claims on the news there she stamped on an FAs foot and then headbutted a Garda.

Ian brown was jailed for four months, years ago for a verbal threat to a stewardess.

Peter buck was cleared of charges after he blamed mixing sleeping pills and alcohol for ransacking a first class cabin.

wonder if Delores will go for a similar defence?

no need to wonder. Why do you think she took a dive and is now in hospital ? Probably the first thing her lawyer told her to do. The case for the defense writes itself stress, medication mixed with alcohol, a nervous flyer blah blah... she will get off with a slap on the wrist. The likes of you and me however....

But this is Ireland! A few quid donation to the court poor box will set things right. Just like Ralph Lauren's niece that got away with a fine!

A quick conviction and a game of pool inside will soon shut them up!

I don't know about you but I tend to behave myself on flights, albeit mind you I did get a little frisky with a Belgian backpacker flying into Bangkok once but she ended up in my hotel later that evening and we continued where we left off there instead.

All these has-beens seem to crave attention, be it good or bad. Think Kerry Cattona and Sinead O' Connor.

Hahahaha! Yeh right, let see the slap on the wrist she gets for this.

Most cases don't involve "Alleged" ABH on crew and "alleged" assault of a member of AGS, it'll be one hefty donation.

You or I would be dodging pool competitions and showers for a few months.

Most cases I recall reading about..found the defendant remanded and then up before a judge the following morning. Funny that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,045 ✭✭✭OzCam

One has to wonder how this would have been handled on arrival to JFK. Charges of terrorism (crew) and attempted murder (cop)? Tasers and OC spray? Pretty sure she'd still be wearing orange in Riker's Island, not tucked up in bed.

And I will be shocked if EI let this go. You simply cannot allow your staff to be assaulted. I absolutely wouldn't and I don't give a fsck who the pax was.

And they won't, they will pursue it by representing that CCM if needs be. For starters she won't be flying EI again.

They usually will arrange an emergency sitting of the court for passengers arrested who are not resident here, for the obvious logistical reasons. This particular piece of fruit is resident, so the case will proceed through the normal channels as seems to be happening.
If the CCM has suffered a significant injury, I'd also like to see her take a civil case. That might help to cool yer ones heels as eel.

I feel really bad for her. She seems lovely. She appears to just had a temporary moment of madness.

I think she used to live there, but it was reported in the paper that she lives here now - presumably that's the address she gave on her arrest. Anyway, the point is the courts will usually try to facilitate a quick hearing for passengers who have no ties to here, she clearly does have a connection here.

By all accounts she's an habitual pain in the arse on flights.

Front page of the Irish Daily Star has the story and a picture of an Aer Lingus aircraft.......Boeing 737-500!!!!!!

Sounds like she was "tired and emotional", Irish style, with a bit of diva behaviour thrown in. She's off the Mueller Christmas card list and might have a couple of assault cases in her near future. Silly fool.

Sure it's a plane in EI livery? Won't that do?

Lazy picture editors, same with railway articles. Don't know how many times various organisations have used old rolling stock to illustrate a story.

Or the older pics are cheaper. Nobody reading The Star cares anyway.

Vincent Browne just gave it a little mention at the end of his show. He feels sorry for her, well the fact the tabloids are running the story anyway.

An EI ban will make it a fair bit more awkward to begin with - and that bit's inevitable.

Think you'll find there won't be any ban, AL thrive on transporting celebrities, like some kind of pioneers!
Hope the cabin crew member recovers. ACL being the actual carrier may do something they certainly take these things very strictly and will can refuse carriage as I know they have in the past.

It'll probably be drawn out in court as that she was stressed take some kind of tablets for her head and had a few bottles of wine. Quick fine and a "please. Be good girl"!
    Yeah some role model indeed.

    Unfortunately billie1b is spot on.

Plenty of other options for someone willing to look at other carriers from Ireland or perhaps travel via LHR/AMS/CDG. Other carriers will happily take her money.

Personally I always felt that airlines should stick together on this matter. If you are convicted of assaulting an airline crew member then you are banned from all carriers operating from that jurisdiction. Even if such a ban was only 12 months it would impact that offender.
A few headline cases with this result would quickly quash the attitude of some idiots that they can do what they want on an aircraft.

Since when has EI thrived on transporting celebs? I think you'll find their judgment call is primarily EI/FR so it's an open choice neither gives a sh*t who they are as much as we do in most cases. So I think you'll find there will in fact be a ban.

I am aware of that...I just think it shame that the industry as a whole doesn't stand together on this matter. If charged and/or convicted, the lady in question will still have multiple travel options.
