Training Vs The Immune System

    Hey All,

Just wondering if anyone has experienced any issues like this....

Lately I feel like my immune system is taking a battering particularly after a gym session.
I've read articles which seem to claim for the hours after a session the immune system is vulnerable, but in the long term it benefits from training.

I'm just wondering what you can do to enure my immune stay as strong as possible while training.
As far as I'm aware I'm not training too intensely so I don't want to reduce frequency.

Anyone have any experiences or opinions on this Training Vs Immune System?

I'd like to think it's alright, Full of protein and veggies generally meals go "Protein source / Rice or sweet potato / endless green veggies".
Throw in nuts/seeds/eggs/oats/fruit and that's pretty much all I eat. If anything I could probably increase my eating. I don't count calories but have 3 meals.

    Breakfast is Oats/Coconut milk

Lunch and Dinner is always the same "Protein source / Rice or sweet potato / endless green veggies"

    Snacks are Almonds and banana/apple.

How do you feel that your immune system is taking a battering?

Supplement vitamin C and D imo. Even on a very healthy diet I reckon they're beneficial.

I am slightly confused by 'lately I feel like my immune system is taking a battering particularly after a gym session' however...are you saying you get colds, etc a lot? If so, how do you know you are picking these up in the hours after a gym session?

Lots of sleep and cut down on any stress would be other important factors

I got sick just as my training peaked back in May. A few people I was training with were sick at the same time. Was just weak and run down for a week-ish.
    Recovered over a weekend rest.

I firmly believe training intensity left me more open to picking it up, and the reason it hung around for a few days. But I also don't think that a typical 3 days a week, 60 minute weights session is going to really run you down significantly. When I got sick, I was training 5 mornings a week (90 mins), plus 2-5 other sessions in the evening/weekends.

Maybe its like a formula, not necessarily training on it's own will compromise the immune system, unless it's severe over training, but Training in combination with lets say either poor sleep, stress, poor diet or all three would hinder immune system function?

So when training not only should sleep/nutrition be on point for recovery in terms of training but also they need to be top notch to make sure you don't leave yourself open to infections etc.

I haven't researched training's effect on immune system function so I'm not denying it's effect or lack off, but the laws of statistics would of course support that statement.

If poor sleep, stress and diet affect immune system function, which they do,
then of course poor sleep, stress and diet combined with tough physical training will affect immune system function.

I think it's somewhat flawed to pick training as the biggest cause or the first factor to be confronted.

Sleep and stress are strongly linked, they'd be the two I'd go for for the biggest effect....

Not getting them right would hinder a lot of things, to be honest.
