Isn't that just the worst name you've ever heard. I've never met a interesting Barry, instead of counting sheep when tired just repeat the name Barry.

You've never heard of Big Bad Barry?

Its short for Finbar which is even worse.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

It's just such a boring name, why would any parent curse thier child with the name Barry?

It's the same with Joel, ive never met a Joel I liked and the two I have met were massively obese.

Google Barry Sheene and read a bit about him, then see if he's boring.

ex Motorbike racing legend for those of a TL:DR disposition.

Should we start a support group for people called Barry? They are getting an unfair press. All the Barries I know are pretty cool OK guys.

Martin is worse. It's just the most dull name ever. It's the sort of name that was chosen in a rush:-

Woman: what will we call our new baby?
Man: I don't care, I couldn't be bothered having to think about it.
Woman: Me too, fcuk it lets just call him Martin.

Each to their own I suppose, wouldnt find anything wrong with it. Would find Jack, Brian or Paul more boring.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,917 ✭✭✭BarryD

Here, what's wrong with Barry or Finbarr then? What's your problem :) Finbarr - fair headed, in other words good looking :)

You could be a chap called Mary or a lassie called Assumpta, but I'm sure there's some fine Assumpta's out there.

Could also be fair as in "it's ok" like the saying "Fair to middling" when you are doing ok, not great, but not bad.

Average like. Nothing outstanding about your head. Very Barryish. Not dull, just not, ye know, interesting.

Gavin is a name I associate with the type of man working in middle management, driving a Ford Mondeo, and buying his clothes in NEXT.

    Top boys’ names in 2011:
    Jack (number 1 since 2007)
    James (number 4 in 2010)
    Sean (number 2 in 2010)
    Daniel (number 3 in 2010)
    Conor (number 5 in 2010)
    Ryan (number since since 2008)
    Adam (number 7 since 2008)
    Harry (number 20 in 2010)
    Michael (number 12 in 2010)
    Alex (number 8 in 2010)

Dont see how Barry would be considered boring compared to any of these? Jack, Adam, Harry and Alex I'd find particularly bad.

    Ann and Barry are friends

The first sentence I ever remember reading by myself.

OP, you leave Barry alone, and his massive dog

Or Bartholomew, which would mean Bart Simpson is a Bartholomew, which means he's also a Barry.

Barrington!! Going up in the world so :) Sure you could say, Bartholemew as well.

But I'll go by my old national school teacher, he said my real name was Finnbarr and whom am I to question that wisdom ;)

Nope, they were definitely friends, I think Tara and Ben were brother and sister. (whose father worked at the toothpaste factory)

I 'read' before school (as far as you can call a anything a 4 or 5 year old does reading', but I didn't re-read the same sentence over and over the same way as you do in school so I don't remember any specific sentences that I may have encountered before then

The name Barry reminds me of the town Barrie in Gavin and Stacey.
    Ergo Barry/Barrie makes me smile.

My memory of this is sketchy, but I'm pretty sure that their parents were Raëlians and they lived together in the commune while awaiting the return of their extra terrestrial overlords
