Jesis, I am delight you started this, cos I was hoking around all morning trying to find which links to pop up.

    FYI From the startlists
    http://www.iau-ultramarathon.org/
Orna seems to be ranked 8th in the women's thought there are about 6 wildcards.
Gary is ranked 4th in the mens and I know he is hoping to medal but not sure how much DCM will have taken out of him.

The big factor is going to be the weather, it is currently 36ºC by day in Doha and it doesn't look like it is going to be any less than 30ºC at the time of the race (6pm Doha Time, 3pm Irish time). I really think it is going to come down to who copes best with the heat and who paces themselves best to the conditions. I really wouldn't be expecting any world class times.

World Trophy Final? I though this was The World Championships? Or is it just the name given for it?

Best of luck to all. I don't like to see anything hosted in Qatar though.

Yep, it's the world tropy final and qualification is based on results of offcial qualifying races over the last 2 years (Donadea is one of them).
From next year they are renaming it the world 50k Championship and Federations will be able to pick and send their own team.

    Info here

Thats a great website. It even has me on it

Handy to have all (well, most) of your race results in one place.

Anybody know what time (our time)it starts at?
I think the only saving grace is that it'll be held at night, so no blistering sunshine.

    'Give her a burger'! Gob****es.
I know if somebody told me I needed a burger I'd be happy I was in racing shape. I saw some similar comments made about Maria McCambridge on Facebook, people are so unaccustomed to looking at healthy, athletic builds nowadays.

Good luck to those racing. Hope Orna posts a race report!!

Don't know the girl, but fair play to her and the best of luck.

Running 50k in that heat will be an achievement in itself.

Have to agree with today's concept of healthy, being overweight nowadays is almost the norm!

I would prefer my daughter to look like her than some of the Gastropods crawling along our streets.

    Best of luck.

I'm guessing the live results will appear here
    http://www.stuweb.co.uk/live/race.shtml#1764-2909
It's a 5k loops so expect a time at the end of each loop.

There is still some conjecture as to whether the race starts at 3pm or 3:30pm our time but we'll soon find out.
Gary is bib 004 and Orna 107 as far as i know.

EDIT: Not sure if the athletics in Doha is like the horse racing but the horse races never start at the times they are supposed to!

Small detail, but am surprised by the gear being worn by some of the runners. Have seen plenty of tshirts, some tights, someone listening to their iphone.

Surprising given the quality of athlete and hot conditions....

the world 50k has about 50 athletes. Roughly 25 men and women. The remaining of the field and some of the guys you mention are most likely locals. The trophy race is incorporated into a larger open race.

Guessed that just after I posted that. Some look in worse shape than me, which is saying a lot.

I saw one lad go past who would look more at place in the front row of a Samoan scrum than at an elite ultrarunning event. Maybe my eyes were deceiving me, or it was some volunteer running by.

Also, how come we're not getting a lap-by-lap commentary here from her coach? Any inside information?!

only that she is running off heart rate rather than pace for the first half of the race. Waiting for this fecking 15k split and that will give a good indication how she's getting on

yes Raivis Zakis split is missing too! Either it's down or she has found some sense and ran off on digger with Zakis ;)

She went by the camera ages ago...GOH came up afterwards so obviously already through the 15k

It's being run in conjunction with a 50k relay event. I'd say a lot of local punters are only doing 5k

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,369 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

There she is again. Would recognise that dopey gait anywhere :pac:

edit: still around 22 mins per 5k based on the two times I've seen her on camera, assuming the camera is on the 5k point.

Just home now, anywhere we can track overall results rather than just individual? The Stuweb page shows nothing...

yep seen her there and she looks ok. If she's hitting those splits she should come through the field nicely. Would love to know her current position!

I'd settle for an individual tracker that would work but like you was hoping to get an idea of overall field.

I'm watching this in a boozer in Spain having a few pints. I could be a dribbling mess by the time this is over!

If I offend, bully or attack any individuals/nations/species/sex over the coming hours I apologise in advance
