Ok, so over the last 18 months I've dropped from 24.5 st to 12.5 st, and am looking for some sort of fitness challenge.
I just think it would be a shame not to 'use' my new fitness to achieve something I'd never have been able to do before....struggling to come up with something though.

I've already done a few 5ks, but don't think I'd be up for a marathon or even a half one - just seems too boring to me...apologies to all you runners out there!!

So, any ideas out there will be gratefully accepted!

    Wow. Well done.

Get into something and develop a skill? Wall climbing? Kite Surfing? Surfing? Martial arts?

    How did you do it?

    Thats amazing....congratulations.

How about taking up a sport, or martial art? Do a uncomfortable adventure run like hell and back or tough mudder. Take up weight lifting, play tennis. cycling???

The first Fitness challenge I ever set for myself was doing 100 push ups in a row. Took a while to do it and felt great when I did... but then again I am easily amused, may not excite you

Wow well done! Seriously impressive stuff.

You say you want to do something you wouldn't have been able to do before. But what actually interests you? Watersports? kite surfing, sailing, surfing? How about something like mountain biking?

Well done on being half the person you were!

    Mountain biking
    Multisport racing
    Kayaking
    IMRA hill running
    Orienteering
    Scuba diving
    Open water swimming

Just a few ideas, most of which can branch off into other areas, and all have a great social aspect with clubs and organisations all over the place. There are events in all of those disciplines, just to keep you focussed. The world is your oyster right now, try a few different things, see what grabs you.

Thanks for the replies...been away so only catching up now!

I didn't really have any secret method for losing the weight, I just started paying lots of attention to everything I eat, and started to exercise...a lot!
I do want to lose about another 7-14 lbs but really I've stopped focusing on the scales now, and more on being happy with what I see in the mirror (it's funny, sometimes I still see the old (big) me in the mirror, so I'm working on seeing all the changes I've achieved.)

Was in the States for the last 2 weeks and tried wall climbing over there...loved it. Where before I would have been to mortified to try it, I was dragging my other half in to give it a go. It was great fun, plus a serious workout for the arms! So will be looking up places to do it in Dublin now....anyone have any recommendations?

I've always wanted to try a martial art actually, so will have to look into it. Don't want to end up in a beginners class of 5 year-olds embarrassing me though!

I've never been a strong swimmer so most of the water-based suggestions are out for the moment. I've booked a course of swimming lessons that starts in January so who knows!

Have to say though, I'm absolutely loving being fit again. My only regret is not doing it years ago.

Well done. For climbing try awesome walls. Indoors and lots of variation.
