As it says on the tin. Went to Liscannor Bay fish and chip in Liscannor recently (they also have a place in Ennis) and it was the best one I ever had. Anywhere like that in Limerick?

Well this has been discussed here before and I still put Luigi's on Parnell St. top of my list and my first go-to chipper.

Another two I like are the Golden Grill on Wm. St and Enzo's on Wm. St also.

The standard of chip shop in Limerick is generally decent but to be honest there is no stand out chipper like there is in all the other Irish cities. I'll have to check out that Liscannor bay place, best in Ireland for me is a toss up between Kettle of fish in Galway and Gort or Reel Dingle fish in Dingle.
Be careful when ordering fish ad chips in Limerick as you will receive a oversize fish finger unless you specify "fresh" fish.

My favorite used to be the golden grill but I think they have gone downhill recently. Just doesn't do it for me any more. My favorite now is the parnell grill (luigis). Lovely :D

Donkey fords are nice too and really cheap though they used to give massive portions I found in the last year or so they have made the portions smaller. It is still cheap though.

Chippers I don't like are rios (Worst in Limerick in my opinion, both of them), enzos and the one in garryowen.

enzos, donkey fords and golden grill.

Liscannor Bay fish and chip in Liscannor is unreal!
They now have 2 places in Ennis, Carmody St and Tulla Rd.
They hand cut their chips, pre cook them by blanching them and then cook them in a seperate frier (so they are not cooked in fish finger residue) and therefore are Gluten Free (not cross contaminated).
    Handmade Curry sauce and dahl.
Very decent portions, everything made fresh to order.
If there is anywhere in Limerick that goes to that effort please let me know!

Kettle of fish in Galway and Gort was class too when I ate there in the past.

Jack Jordans in Doughiska is very good, they cater for GF too.

Enzos Donkey Fords and Luigis in that order.I always look forward to popping into Enzos when i visit Limerick!I like Luigis but it can be a bit hit and miss.Enzos and Donkey Fords are more consistent in terms of quality imo.

Donkey Fords would be my choice if I was around there.

Another vote for Luigis and Enzos. Tonys in Raheen is nice too.

    Luigis or Fuscos in Garryowen.

Reel Dingle has awful chips so thats out of the line up.

Enzo's is without a doubt the best in Limerick!

Have tried some of the non "italian chippers" listed here. Consistency is all over the place, decent chips (but rarely fantastic) are invariably followed by muck the next time.
Dinos in cork have never let me down though, kinsale for fish and chips or Blackpool for chips and breast in a bun.

Funny thread. OP is looking for a chip shop to ránk with the best în the country. It was bad enough when rios and enzos were getting mentioned. Now its dinos în Cork. Hilarious.

Arguing on the internet and chip shop snobbery. Hilarious squared.

    Chip on your shoulder?

    Chip on your shoulder?

Unconfirmed rumours that people are also using the internet to view pornography.

In all fairness, Dino's is not a good chipper, it was very strange to see it recommended to someone looking for a really good chipper in Limerick.

I think the OP was looking for something along the lines of Kettle of Fish or McDonagh's in Galway, Reel Dingle, the Liscannor place he/she mentioned, maybe something like The Fish Wife in Cork. I've seen so many threads dedicated to Limerick chippers that it has gotten a bit tiresome, they're all the same.

We're at a bit of a disadvantage, not being located by the coast and all that.

Donkey's. Square cod, bag of chips and a steak and kidney pie.

ah stop will you .. limerick has a river running through it and it is not a million miles from the coast ... it is down to the chip shops themselves

The chip shops in Limerick are dumps. Things have moved on since the 1980's.

Even the so called fabled places here are trading on nostalgia and past glory.

This. There are plenty of decent chippers in Limerick, but what I'm looking for is one of them which has fish to match that of Liscannor Bay. I've been to Golden Grill, Rios and a couple of others (not Enzos or Luigi's yet though) and they're all nice chippers, but nothing like Liscannor Bay. I must try Enzos and Luigi's though, thanks for the replies.

McAris in Annacoty was great but i haven't been there in a while.

I know its clare and not limerick but I highly recommend a visit to Liscannor Bay fish and chip in Ennis or Liscannor, it's top class all cooked fresh, I had a smooked Haddock from the shop in Ennis last night and it was the best by a long ways I've had. Well up there with kettle of fish and McDonaghs in Galway if not better.

Limerick could do with a chipper along the same line's with proper fresh fish.

Just close this thread now, we're back to Luigi's and Donkeys. Hard to believe that people can't even be bothered to read the OP

Worst case scenario: René Cusack does lovely fresh cod. If you have the patience to batter it yourself, you'll have a lovely meal. Expensive enough though.

Seemingly there is no chipper in Limerick that squares up to the Liscannor Bay Fish and Chip Shop or Kettle of Fish in Galway. People are giving their suggestions of what is the best chipper in Limerick city. No doubt they don't hold a candle to the afore mentioned chippers by all accounts by the sound of them but people are giving their opinions on what they consider the best in Limerick to be. What more do you want people to do?

Sorry if I came off snippy. It's just that there has been no topic ever discussed on here as much as the chippers of Limerick I'd say. It's always the same stuff (Luigi's lock the thread, Donkey's is after getting very dear etc etc).
The OP specifically mentioned the Liscannor place, a post from yesterday brought up that place like it was something we may not have heard of.
To be honest I think people should at least have a quick read of the thread (it's very short) before posting.

Personally I think that Luigi's is the best chipper in Limerick but I'm pretty sure that there is nowhere in the city serving proper fresh fish which is a pity.

On a side note what's the one in Gort?
Luigis near Russell's does some nice battered sausages. The girl there usually fires in a shovel of chips with the sausages

Kettle of Fish is on the right hand side as you are leaving Gort for Galway on the old route from Limerick. It is an outstanding chipper, as good as any I've been to (I include Rick Steins in Padstow). Massive selection of fresh fish, superb calamari. Beautiful chips, dry not soggy, fluffy on the inside. It'd be great to have somewhere like it in Limerick.

Bobby Byrnes do very good fish and chips

Scampi and chips in The Curraghgower are fantastic not fresh cod but still as tasty

Kettle o fish garlic Mayo is unreal also a rare place that does fresh chicken goujons

Not at all Swiper the fox and I very much agree with the sentiment of your post. Being honest I'm not big into takeaways...its generally cheaper and healthier to cook yourself. But I do treat myself from time to time with a burger and chip.

Just to ad my own thoughts to the thread....Its being a while since I had takeaway food in Limerick city, not frequenting the city too often these times but from when I did I found Luigi's to be pretty good also. Last time I got a takeaway from Luigi's I was catching a bus with a friend. I brought him over a burger and chip to the bus station too and he reckoned they were possibly the nicest chips he had in a long time if not ever!...granted he was hungry and had a good long fast before that though.

As its being a while since I ate in Limerick chippers to any degree it would be wrong of me to give my opinion as standards can slip or improve. Also I believe I have ate at all chippers in the past that were mentioned so far in the thread apart from Donkey Fords and it does seem to get good recommendations any time this thread arises. Furthermore, it may depend on what your getting. One chipper may do a good burger and the next may do a good fish. Further still it may depend on when you hit the chipper, and who prepared your food. For example if the oil was just after being changed maybe.

Agree with you though its a pity there is no chipper in Limerick for the size of a town it is that compares to the likes of Liscannor Fish and Chip (never ate there but can only assume its very good from the sentiment in the thread). As such no real answer can be provided to the OP apart from what is in ones own opinion the best chipper in Limerick
