Is it worth doing an art or animation course in Dublin?

I have a friend tell it might be a waste of time since it's not as practical like other jobs which are in demand such as engineers.
What are my chance of finding a good career if I do a course in these areas?

I would certainly advocate doing a solid, but broad, primary degree like Science or Engineering. Don't jump into something too specialised right out of school. Your interests will change as you grow and you don't want to be caught with a skill that isn't in demand.
You can always work on animation etc in your spare time.

Of course if you really don't like Science or Engineering there's no point doing them either.
