Just looking for some ideas for stuff to throw in the bag and have on hand during the day that's packed with calories and low enough on the carb/sugar side.Any tricks or tips?, spoonfuls of peanut butter isn't cutting it anymore, just snacks to munch on walking down the road for example.

Making my own bars would probably be one trick, but what to put in them that's tasty and calorifically horrific?

    Almonds. Or Brazil nuts.

Cheese portions (make sure to vet your bag regularly for these though )

    Cold cocktail sausages (see above).

Just seen your edit above - make flax crackers - they're incredibly tasty and even more incredibly calorific!

A tub full of cocktail sausages actually wouldn't be a bad idea, might have to make an investment in a few packs tomorrow.

Never thought of flax crackers, how many calories would you get out of them?

Don't get the ready cooked ones - they're a disaster if you're trying to keep carbs low. Superquin ones were among the lowest carb (edible) ones I found.

Haven't a notion how many calories in the flax crackers, but they're basically flax and nuts (and some seeds if you want), it's all very calorie-dense stuff. I'm sure if you fed the ingredients into some calorie-counting website you'd come up with a figure handy enough.

But if it's just low-carb calories, and plenty of 'em, you're after, you won't go far wrong!

Cheers for the suggestions, looks like ill be overdosing on flax and pork over the next few weeks. Reckon a layer of peanut butter on the crackers would taste fairly edible?

Hmmm, dunno about that - I used to make them with a fair whack of chilli in them, so a swipe of butter or plain cream cheese was enough - think the flavour of peanut butter on top might be a bit much! You could make them without the chilli though, that would make them a bit blander. But flax is a fairly distinctive taste by itself.

    Rice cakes

Such a versatile and underrated food item

Get two rice cakes, put a slice of cheese, ham, slice of tomato and some scrambled egg in it and you got a tasty sandwich without using bread

Rice cakes aren't exactly low-carb though!

6g of carbs per cake, only 29 calories

If you got sweetcorn cakes it's even less

just a better alternative to bread and can eat it on the go
