    Wales squad announced

    10378126_10152506215973722_2789590857817569111_n.jpg?oh=5fce65129ad78372f6dc5d50af9184c0&oe=54B1599F&__gda__=1425055881_8a97163f30a51d80bc8e31c75811b76e

Most obvious person left out is Adam Jones. It will be interesting to see if that is him done or if he has a chance of coming back into the reckoning in February. At 95 test caps it would be disappointing for him not to get the 100.

    No Rhys Patchell either......

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,309 ✭✭✭former legend

    Still no sign of Patchell.

Eli Walker omitted too, I have no idea how he's playing at the moment but he always looked like such a massive talent.

Has James Hook vanished off the face of the earth? Edit: no, he's just playing for Gloucester. Well, same thing I suppose.

Shouldn't the thread be called Welsh Team for the Autumn Internationals 2014?

It's misleading click bait for people who couldn't give a **** about Wales.

Steady on. I'm sure you'll get over losing 2s of your life. In due course someone will post the other teams (NZ, Aust, SA, Eng etc). There's always a general discussion thread for these things.

On another note, Teferi, any idea who will be screening these matches Sky? BBC? BT?

BBC will be showing the Wales and Scotland games, RTE and Sky will cover the Ireland games and Sky will show the England games.

Think Sky are showing France and Italy games too.
Edit: yes, they are, but some of the France and Italy games will be red button only

It should be interesting. Aside from seeing how Ireland get on, I think it's Cotter's first run with the Scots, and for the neutral those matches involving Eng & SANZAR are pretty juicy fixtures. Can Wales actually beat a SH team...? Throw in Argentina, and also Samoa, and it's always good viewing. It's really the last run out between the hemispheres before the RWC, so lots of "psychological markers" to put down.

At the moment yes, because thats the only squad posted so far. Its clearly going to become about the Autumn Internationals as a whole when more squads are announced.

Less of the crap please. This is a general thread for non-Ireland Autumn international news. It just happened that Wales was the first topic on it.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/29685373

Record Test points-scorer Dan Carter is included a 34-man New Zealand squad for their tour of the northern hemisphere.

The 32-year-old took a six-month sabbatical from the sport in November and then broke his leg in August.

Sonny Bill Williams is also included after less than a full game since his return to union following two seasons in Australia's National Rugby League.

    New Zealand tour squad:

Backs: Israel Dagg, Ben Smith, Charles Piutau, Cory Jane, Julian Savea, Malakai Fekitoa, Conrad Smith, Sonny Bill Williams, Ryan Crotty, Dan Carter, Beauden Barrett, Aaron Cruden, Aaron Smith, TJ Perenara, Augustine Pulu.

Forwards: Kieran Read, Richie McCaw (captain), Sam Cane, Jerome Kaino, Liam Messam, Victor Vito, Patrick Tuipulotu, Brodie Retallick, Jeremy Thrush, Luke Romano, Sam Whitelock, Ben Franks, Owen Franks, Charlie Faumuina, Joe Moody, Wyatt Crockett, Dane Coles, Keven Mealamu, Nathan Harris.

Can't see Jones getting back in barring injuries to others..

All he ever really brought was Scrummaging , he does/did little else around the field.. He used to be worth carrying on the basis of his scrum dominance , but since the change in the engagement laws his impact there is massively reduced and as a result the deficiencies in the rest of his game are no longer worth carrying...

Pity , he seems like a nice guy and was a super scrummager in his time...but I don't think hitting the 100 caps in going to happen for him...

Right what I'd really like to know is out of the Fiji squad which players did not want to include themselves... I presume there's a few other players playing in France & England that don't want to make themselves eligible??

    I don't see a lot of misses.
Rokoduguni wants play for England, Nayacalevu is one of the 4 reserve players, Nalaga looks unfit since the begin of the season, while Koyamaibole (34 years old), Bobo (38) and Bai (35) are old now.

Vulivuli and Murimurivalu from the top 14 anyway, but I have no idea if they're fit, not making themselves available or just not picked.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,257 ✭✭✭Hagz

Rokoduguni and Yarde could be a potentially awesome wing combination. I hope we get to see it at some point this season. Add in Tuilagi and Mike Brown and England's back-line is starting to really come together.

From BBC Sport saying the Fijian Rugby Union were not in touch in over a year, crazy when you think how talented the lad is.

I think they are not picked...
Nagusa is a very good player while Ratini scored 8 tries in 8 games. The only surprising choice is Watisoni Votu from Perpignan...

Not yet, I think the squad will be announced about 1 week before the first test.
    Here are my predictions

Props : Davit Zirakashvili (Clermont), Levan Chilachava (Toulon), Mikheil Nariashvili (Montpellier), Vasil Kakovin (Toulouse) if fit or Zurab Zhvania (Stade Français) + Davit Kubriashvili (Stade Français) or Lekso Kaulashvili (La Rochelle) if the coach wants a 5th prop
Hookers : Shalva Mamukashvili (Sale Sharks), Simon Maisuradze (Valence d'Agen - french 3d division)
Locks : Konstantin Mikautadze (Toulon), Levan Datunashvili (Aurillac - ProD2), Giorgi Nemsadze (Tarbes - ProD2) and maybe Vakhtang Maisuradze (Albi - ProD2)
Backrow : Viktor Kolelishvili (Clermont), Dimitri Basilaia (Perpignan - ProD2), Lasha Lomidze (Beziers - ProD2), Giga Tkhilaishvili (on trial with Leicester Tigers), Shalva Sutiashvili (Massy - ProD2) and possibly Beka Bitsadze (Locomotive Tbilisi)
Scrumhalves : Giorgi Begadze (Kochebi RC) and Giorgi Rokhvadze (Aia Kutaisi) or Vazha Khutsishvili (Kharebi Rustavi)
Flyhalves : Lasha Khmaladze (Lelo Saracens), Lasha Malaguradze (Bagnères - french 3d division)
Centres : Merab Sharikadze (Aurillac - ProD2), Davit Kacharava (Enisey-STM, Russia), Revaz Gigauri (Montluçon - french 3d division)
Wingers : Tamaz Mchedlidze (Agen - ProD2), Giorgi Shkinin (Locomotive Tbilisi), Sandro Todua (Lelo Saracens) + Irakli Machkhaneli (Armazi) or Muraz Giorgadze (Armazi)
Fullbacks : Beka Tsiklauri (Locomotive Tbilisi) and Merab Kvirikashvili (Montluçon - french 3d division) or Irakli Kiasashvili (Lelo Saracens)

Maybe 1 or 2 suprises in addition to these names

Will you do the write-up for the Irish match? I'd be pretty clueless about the Georgians, really only know that Gorgodze chap, and it'd make the game more interesting. I'd imagine I'd not be the only fella who wouldn't be so up on the play about your team.

Gorgodze's injury is a very big blow for Georgia, the team is not the same with him and whithout him...

For the Irish game, I would pick

    1. Vasil Kakovin (Toulouse) if fit or Mikheil Nariashvili (Montpellier)
    2. Shalva Mamukashvili (Sale Sharks)
    3. Davit Zirakashvili (Clermont-Auvergne)
    4. Konstantin Mikautadze (Toulon)
    5. Levan Datunashvili (Aurillac)
    6. Viktor Kolelishvili (Clermont-Auvergne)
    7. Lasha Lomidze (Béziers) or Giga Tkhilaishvili (Leicester Tigers - on trial)
    8. Dimitri Basilaia (Perpignan)
    9. Giorgi Begadze (Kochebi)
    10. Lasha Khmaladze (Lelo Saracens)
    11. Giorgi Shkinin (Locomotive) or Sandro Todua (Lelo Saracens)
    12. Merab Sharikadze (Aurillac)
    13. Davit Kacharava (Enisey-STM)
    14. Tamaz Mchedlidze (Agen)
    15. Beka Tsiklauri (Locomotive)

bench : Simon Maisuradze (Bagnères), Mikheil Nariashvili or Zurab Zhvania (Stade Français), Levan Chilachava (Toulon), Giorgi Nemsadze (Tarbes), Giga Tkhilaishvili or Lasha Lomidze
Giorgi Rokhvadze (Aia Kutaisi), Lasha Malaguradze (Bagnères), Sandro Todua or Giorgi Shkinin or Revaz Gigauri (Montluçon)

    Irish injured 15

    1. Cian Healy
    2. Damien Varley
    3. Martin Moore
    4. Dan Touhy
    5. Donnacha Ryan
    6. Iain Henderson
    7. Sean O'Brien
    8. Jordi Murphy
    9.
    10.
    11. Andrew Trimble
    12. McFadden
    13. Luke Fitzgerald / Luke Marshall
    14. Earls
    15. David Kearney

Just need an injured set of half backs and then it is a decent team.

On paper, the Fijian & Samoan squads both look pretty decent.

This should be three interesting games. They should beat Scotland & Italy even away from home and hope they could beat France although it maybe unlikely. The squad will be knackered by that point bearing in mind the rugby championship had just finished.

    Huh??

Speaking of the Japanese team; I see Tanaka isn't in it. I'm surprised by that as I thought he was a very good player (from what I saw of him for the Highlanders). I see he is in the Barbarians squad though.

    Australia's Squad for games against the Barbarians (1/11), Wales(8/11), France(15/11), Ireland(22/11), and England(29/11).

    Forwards (18)

Props: Ben Alexander, Tetera Faulkner, Sekope Kepu, Benn Robinson, James Slipper
Hookers: Saia Fainga'a, James Hanson, Josh Mann-Rea
Locks: Sam Carter, James Horwill, Luke Jones, Rob Simmons, Will Skelton
Backrow: Scott Higginbotham, Matt Hodgson, Michael Hooper (Captain), Ben McCalman, Sean McMahon

    Backs (15)

Scrum Halves: Will Genia, Nick Phipps, Nic White
Out Halves: Quade Cooper, Bernard Foley
Centres: Kyle Godwin, Tevita Kuridrani, Christian Lealiifano, Matt Toomua
Back 3: Adam Ashley-Cooper, Tom English, Israel Folau, Rob Horne, Henry Speight, Joe Tomane

Only 33 players for 5 games, they will be hoping they don't pick up too many injuries. All 33 of them should see gametime especially with a game against the Barbarians. Speight should finally pull on the gold jersey, they will hope he solves the winger crisis they have undergone since the departure of Digby. I hope Godwin and McMahon get a good amount of gametime, two very promising youngsters. It is hard to know what Australia will turn up. There could be loving running rugby or there could be loads of aimless kicking.

Grr, hate the Ticketmaster website. Anyway just wondering what poeple would expect the turnout to be for the Georgia game? Seems to be more blocks sold out than I'd have thought. Thinking of bringing my rugby mad 6 year old daughter to the game, full Ireland kit and all :D.
But if it's likely to be 40 thousand or so there it might just be too crowded. Cheers

not at all.... ive had my kids at games in the aviva and the crowd has never been and issue.

get there a little early, say 3/4 hr... and wait till the vast majority have gone.
its a 2:30 game so darkness after to get to DART etc also wont be an issue.

A good number of those tickets sold were bundled with tickets for the South Africa and Australia games, e.g. I got tickets for all three because it was only about a tenner extra to go to the Georgia game compared to buying SA and Australia individually, with a much better choice of seats.

I'll go to the Georgia game but if something comes up and I miss it, I won't freak out; I think a lot of people will be in the same boat so I would expect "tickets sold" and actual attendance to be quite different, so I'd say fire away.

As sydthebeat says, the Aviva is a lot less claustrophobic even when full than the old Lansdowne was.

    New Zealand tour squad:

Backs: Israel Dagg, Ben Smith, Charles Piutau, Cory Jane, Julian Savea, Malakai Fekitoa, Conrad Smith, Sonny Bill Williams, Ryan Crotty, Dan Carter, Beauden Barrett, Aaron Cruden, Aaron Smith, TJ Perenara, Augustine Pulu.

Forwards: Kieran Read, Richie McCaw (captain), Sam Cane, Jerome Kaino, Liam Messam, Victor Vito, Patrick Tuipulotu, Brodie Retallick, Jeremy Thrush, Luke Romano, Sam Whitelock, Ben Franks, Owen Franks, Charlie Faumuina, Joe Moody, Wyatt Crockett, Dane Coles, Keven Mealamu, Nathan Harris.

The main talking points really are
    - Slade missing out to Carter. It's only a talking point really because Carter is perennially injured.
    - Pulu in for the injured Kerr-Barlow, which I don't think too many Kiwis are crying about
    - Vito ahead of Luatua, with which I agree. I would like to see him get a full 80 at No. 8
    - Romano brought straight back in, probably at the expense of Bird. Good ol' Jeremy Thrush is getting an extended run in black. I kind of admire him, he's never going to be world class, but he's plugged away faithfully for a bit now, and getting his reward. Rather suspect he'll miss out on the big prize of RWC selection though

Anyone else disappointed NZ not heading to the Aviva?

    3 10s is light?

Myler's been preferred to both Cipriani and Burns. Mild bone of contention for most England fans. Well, the Cipriani bit anyway.

Isn't Cipriani and his demeanour quite against the team humility that Lancaster was keen to promote for a long time?

Probably out of favour. He's certainly fit and Lancaster doesn't really do rest.

As far as anyone call tell, Cipriani has worked really hard the last couple of years on having the right demeanour and being the right guy. He went on tour to New Zealand, if there were bad vibes there, it was kept under wraps. Maybe there's something going on where we can't see, but publicly, he shouldn't be against that.

Slightly off topic of game talk, but heading to the SA game. Not a major/regular game goer more TV, but where's the best place to go for a pint close to the ground. Searson's still popular?
