The VICE Challenge - enter if you dare!

The VICE punishments can be found here

It has to have a defined period
    Its must have strict rules
    A flexibility dilemma
    Real sacrifice
    Peer support/abuse as needed :D
    Honesty

    So ideas? Some thoughts.
    Pick your main 2 vices
A different flavour on the challenge each month
    Christmas week off!

Perhaps a simple start for November. Pick your biggest vice and go cold turkey. Well cold turkey ish..

You are allowed just 500Kcals of your vice. You can break that down however you like but you must report it. For example "today I ate 6 burbon creams @68 Kcals each" = 408 Kcals. Meaning I can eat one and a half more burbon creams in the month.

The catch. You can go over, but you must report. For example after my burbon creams moment of weakness, I'm good for a week, then eat 2 chocolate hob nobs @95 Kcals each. This puts my Vice total to 598 Kcals, thus 98 over.

The penalty must be something physical, torturous and monotonous. Like 98 burpees or left leg lunges to be completed by month end. If I ate 2 more hob nobs that would be 190 more burpees or 288 total burpees :D.

My Vice is clearly biscuits. I easily do 3-5 packs a week :o

    You had me until 'burpees'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,235 ✭✭✭Solobally8

Count me in! Although I can't do burpees with my broken arms so it will have to be squats or something lower body based for me. Reeeally need to do this. My vices are chocolate and walkers sensations crisps.

Chocolate that is less than 70% :pac: and cans of coke (free in work - easy to grab)

What is your suggestion of torture then?

There must be a painful price to pay for indulgence. Or do we involve peers here to call out your penance?

    Circuit set:
    Squats
    Lunges
    Pressups
    Burpees
    Squat jumps

Reps depend on the severity of your transgression.

My vice: Cadburys chocolate, Hunky Dory/Okie Dokie crisps. I can eat a family size bag in one sitting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,208 ✭✭✭shotgunmcos

I like the idea of the circuit set. Real leg burner.

So let's define a period to run a test of this challenge?
    How many reps/sets per transgression?

Maybe 1 set of 10 reps per 100Kcals on first offence?
1 set of 15 reps per 70 Kcals on 2nd
1 set of 20 reps per 50 Kcals on 3rd

And if you don't get it after the ass DOMs
Final offense: 1 set of 40 reps per 100 Kcals and a 1km run between sets (if that doesn't teach you nothing Will)

    Thoughts?

That would make me have another bar of chocolate due to the fact ''ah sure I've just burnt the other one off'' :D

When is this starting?? I need to get my act together - I've got a crap load of chocolate to consume thank you Oryx between now and then!

(Is start date this Tuesday (after Monday night football)? Or is it November 1st (the damage we can do 12 days away...)? Or sometime in between?)

Well 49ers up tonight so I'm good to go from tomorrow.

    My vice: biscuits and chocolate

Let's lock down the challenge period (20 Oct - 19 Nov)?

Everyone happy with rules? 500Kcals total, circuits for anything over?

Do we need a table? :pac:

Belly hurts from so much chocolate today. :(

As of midnight tonight, I am off all chocolate, and all cookies/cakes/pies. Let the games begin! :D

(P.S. - Who's in?? Best I can tell it's just shotgun and 4 hoochies. AKW?? I'm guessing you couldn't come up with any fat photos after all. ;))

Now you know why!! It's a vicious God that allows a running store to be situated midway between a bakery and an undertaker!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,208 ✭✭✭shotgunmcos

So if you visited the bake shop, the exit sign says "stop next door or you will end up next door..."

Day 1 will be easy... Positively over indulged last night. Massive sugar low today but the though of another biscuit ain't good.

On the bright side, parts arrived for my broken blender.. Smoothies :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,468 ✭✭✭sconhome

    Ok. Are we starting today?

    My VICES / temptations:
Wife's chocolate biscuit cake (made a new one yesterday - I'd a corner of a slice with cuppa tea last night)
Wife's apple crumble - oat and nut topping with wild blackberries.
    All of the above picture.

So far today, I've been very good.

    I think all are valid.

Forget tables, let's do trust. You transgress, you post details and the Jury will decide?

All agree say "aye aye captain" :D

    Or just "aye".. !

Just to reiterate - Dory kicked my ass on a similar challenge in 2013

At the risk of making this too tough, I reckon you need to be banned from sugar free fizz too. Aspartame is bad too!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭pgibbo

I'm in for crisps. I'll polish off a 6 pack in a single sitting. Recently ate 12 bags in one day (Hula Hoop multi pack with some Chicattees, Wheelies and Snax). Those big bags of Gluten Free crisps (O'Donnells, Tayto and Keoghs) don't last 10mins either.

  • Subscribers Posts: 19,425 ✭✭✭✭Oryx

    ^^^^my soulmate.

Did we nail down exactly how the penalty system works? And I may need someone to quantify kcals as approximate handfuls when it comes to crisps. ;)

OK folks: good luck and be honest. You are doing this for the right reasons so confess if you had a weak moment and gave in.

Caz just made tea and opened a box of maltesers :(

I don't know what maltesers are, but keep telling yourself that they'll look better on her than they will on you!

They are small honeycomb balls coated in chocolate that melt when you eat them. A fun game is seeing how many you can fit in your mouth at one time*

    *behave.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,208 ✭✭✭shotgunmcos

    The penalty system

    Circuits option

Per 100 calories (or part thereof) over your 500 allowance

    1st offence
20 reps of the following exercises
    Lunges
    Squat jumps
    Burpees
    Press ups
    Chin ups or Tricep dips

    So 275 cals over = 3 sets of 20

2nd offence = 1 set of 30 reps per 100 cal over or part thereof
    3rd offence = 1 set of 40 per 100 etc
    4th = 1 set of 50 etc...

    Or

    Bike torture (Turbo only)

Per 100 cal over or part thereof

    1st offence
    Your own warm up
3x 30 sec Max gearing 120rpm & 10 squat jumps. So you burst straight into 120spm or as fast as you can spin your 53/12 or 50/11. Get off and do 10 squat jumps Immediately. Back on for another Max burst etc...
    Your own cool down

    2nd offence = 4x40sec Max & 15 squat jumps
    3rd offence = 5x50sec & 20 squat jumps
    4th = 6x60sec & 25 etc...

    So 275 cal over = 3x 3x30sec Max & 10 squat jumps or 9 total 30 Max efforts and 90 squat jumps. A 3rd offense of 700 cals of gluttony = 35 total 50sec sprints & 700 squat jumps

Caveat- advisable not to do squat jumps in bike shoes!!

    Or

    Run torture
Minimum 15 min or 3km warm up

Per 100 cal over or part thereof

    1st offence
Find a hill that takes a minute to run up at pace
3xhill & 10 squat jumps, jog down recovery, straight into next rep
    Your own cool down

    2nd offence 4xhill &15 squat jumps
    3rd offence 5xhill & 20
    4th offence 6xhill & 25..etc...

Example a second offence penance on a 490 cal indulgence
= 20 hills total and 300 squat jumps!

    General rules
Whether you opt for circuits, bike or running, there is no rest. You hurt, that's it!
If you do circuits on 1st offence you cannot do bike 1 or run 1 on 2nd offernse

If you offend more than 4 times then you have endured pure torture alreasdy and are either a sadist or a cheat (cause you didn't pay the price)

These are the punishments. You can always wimp out now or after your first gorge, it doesn't matter. You are only kidding yourself.

Remember, before you take a bite/sip. You must pay for it in sweat and maybe tears.

    Call it cleansing :)

In the desk is dangerous. 142 cals would leave you with a balance of 358 until Nov 19

Chocolate chip muffin sitting in front of me. No danger though, cravings have not kicked in. I'm guzzling pints of water and eating a few nuts or grapes when I pass through the kitchen.

Day one of no crisps or chocolate. I survived without resorting to duct taping my mouth. But it was close.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,941 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

My day was going well, keeping it on a flatline all day, headed out for 90 mins on the bike in the pitch dark in the Phoenix park and somewhere along the trip developed a massive craving for nachos and wine so duly dropped into Dunnes for a last minute smash 'n grab and got my fix: 1 x KP chilli nachos, 1 x Montepulciano 750ml, 1 x Cadbury Dairy Milk 200g, 1 x Wine Gums 130g. 2600 kcals. I'm ready for my punishment - where's the whip??

I'm not in this challenge because of nights like this every 3 weeks or so.

Nurofen first thing in the morning and 3K in the pool will banish the memories :D
