    Hey all,

Just starting back in the gym after a few months out, just wondering are pull ups better than rows as a complete back exercise, as I've been out i reckon i'll be doing assisted pulls for a the first 5-8 weeks.

I know i could probably do both, but for the first few months back, i'd prefer to stick with a whole body routine for the first while to ease myself into along with flexibility and mobility work.

So Pull up or Barbell Rows as my main back exercise

I know you specifically ruled out this answer, but I'm gonna say it any way. Do both.
One's a vertical pull, the other a horizontal pull. Related, but separate movements.
If you've got more than 6 exercises in the full body routine, I'd be cutting else before either of those two.

Pull ups are for back width.

Barbell Rows are for back thickness.

    Do both.

If you could only do 1, do rows.

But by choosing to only do 1 you're saying a lot about your dedication to training and long term progress.

Ok cheers, i just find that doing rows last week. I was finding it hard to feel myself working my back, especially after i'd done my few pull ones...

You were either doing it wrong or not lifting enough. Hopefully the latter so you can add some weight and get beasted.

Where exactly did you feel was being worked when you did the rows?

More my arms & rear shoulders, now in saying that i've been out of the weight room for nearly 5 months, combination of a shoulder and hip injury aswell as doing alot of cycling pre injuries
