Paranoid

I'm confused about the word paranoid being used so readily instead of the word suspicious. eg : "I had my suspicions" instead of "yeah i was paranoid". Paranoia is a mental illness or personality disorder so if you have a suspicion nowadays you must be wrong or delusional for thinking about something, or is it not alright to think things out anymore?

Paranoia is heavily influenced by fear and always involves abnormal reasoning. Suspicions are brought about by normal reasoning and are not influenced by fear.

That's my point the word paranoid has replaced normal healthy suspicion.

It has become slang for suspicion as far as i can tell. Everyone i know uses and overuses it and misuses it.

I think it's more slang for overly and unecessarily suspicious. But point taken. :-)

No coco powder, crystallized ginger pieces and dried ginger power in the dough and then chocolate covering. It was a chewy cookieish type dough.

It's a teenage linguistic thing. In the same way they use the word 'stress' to mean 'mildly inconvenient'.

Marry these two posts OP and there's the answer you've been looking for.

You're absolutely right though, Irish people have a tendency to overuse paranoia in the same way they overuse, and misuse, the word ignorant.
