They will come as SD if you just have a standard package

If you have the HD package, they will come in as HD (except for RTE 1)

Do you have a HD box though? i.e. even without a HD subscription, if you have a HD box, you can still get HD channels?

    advisor:
Correct you get the channels that broadcast in HD as standard in HD

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,015 ✭✭✭Citizenpain

but can someone confirm what i said about those other HD channels coming as standard, I am skeptical

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,512 ✭✭✭runawaybishop

Sky are giving all the hd channels for free until April as part of a promotion, customer were automatically upgraded. After April you pop back down to SD. I guess their sales of HD must be sh1te.

For Sky's basic pack - €28 per month

You get the following HD channels without having to add the HD pack...

RTE2, BBC One, BBC Two, NHK World and RT

And the ability to add ITV/UTV and Channel 4 in the Other Channels option, but are not recordable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,587 ✭✭✭Berty44

You also should have the option to view BBC 3 and BBC 4 in HD in Other Channels as well

Not only is it that brown stuff, its also pure robbery with that grossly excessive charge they eke out of their customers:mad:.

What is it with this country that people want everything for nothing? Free water, free sky, free bins, they'd soon start complaining if they were told that there's no pay for the job they're doing, as people want their service for free.

Sky are doing deals on HD, we've recently had a new 2Tb HD+ box, and a 500 Gb HD+ box, with HD upgrade for next to no increase on the sum we were paying for the basic pack, the HD is half price, and I got a discount on the basic pack as well which pretty much covered the extra price of the HD upgrade. The 2 boxes cost me €49, which goes nowhere towards the total price of 2 boxes. OK, we've been with Sky for a long time, but I didn't have to push too hard to get that deal, and we're not on that big a package, 2 plus boxes on multiroom, but no sports or movies.

OK, the list price for an HD box is well above the real price, but the hardware is OK, and has to be paid for somehow, a dual channel FTA box will cost somewhere between €100 and €150, so the HD upgrade price just about covers the cost of the hardware when you take the upgrade.

The add on channels for movies and sports are a serious rip off, but I suppose the sports have to pay for the crazy prices they give to the premier league for the rubbish they churn out. (No I don't watch football, no interest at all any more, too many prima donna posers and a distinct absence of real skills compared to when I was younger) .

On the plus side, the total Sky package works, and it's very rare that there are technical hassles, or any other issues with the total package. I just wish they'd get their act together on a good broadband service in this country, if we had Sky broadband, I'd be more tempted to use some of the web based offerings, but not on the present broadband supplier, too expensive.

What will be interesting will be to see if the change to Sky Ireland as the controlling company will mean they can change the package next year, the implication is that they will be able to offer more, as they will be operating on a different basis to the present structure.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Wha?? When did that happen? No sign of any hd channels on my epg....

I'm going to have to give them a call. I'm on the basic package, and according to the site (http://www.sky.com/products/sky-tv/original-bundle/index-roi.html), I should be able to get SciFi HD and FilmFourHD, but if I flick to those I still get the "Call 0818.. to upgrade your subscription".

No they're not. Certain customers were sold Boxsets as part of their package and are currently in contract. Sky are honouring that contract by providing HD foc.

Pretty much on a par with your posts in this thread.

Aren't boxsets part of everyone's package? Made unviewable of course without HD. If I entered a new contract would I get free HD?

Boxsets are part of the HD pack

No, because it is no longer sold as part of the package and hasn't been since April

Sky, unsolicited, have upgraded me to HD. I do not have anything beyond the standard package. The letter I received indicated sky were upgrading all customers to HD for free until April, it did not specify that the upgrade was only for certain customers.

Are you in contract with sky? If so, when does your contract end?

I think I am about 8 months into a new contract

Maybe it's customers in contract that got the free HD upgrade.

sky is not sounding very appealing

having to add channel 4 HD as an extra channel, whats the deal !!

Horizon is just so clunky and horrible to use. torn!

It's customers who signed up between September 2013 - April 2014
