    hi all,
i am 16 and have been lifting weights for about a year. during the winter i used to go just once a week with my friends to the gym and partake in spinning, weights classes etc. the next day i would be very sore and i loved that because it meant i did something right that evening!
but now i workout at home with a bench and dumdbells. i do this 3-4 times a week for about 45 mins. but the problem is that i no longer feel that burn the next day, maybe for an hour after the workout or so, but feel virtually nothing the next day.
does this mean that my workouts are not hard enough or i am doing something wrong.???
just to let you know i am 6 ft 4 and am skinny (i hate that bit) i eat alot but maybe not enough and am only seeing very small results from my workouts.
i could really do with advice from someone who knows what their talking about!!!
thank you for reading and i amopen to any advice.

That feeling doesn't mean it's working. It's just muscle soreness from exercise.
Most likely, now that you are training regularly instead of once a week, your body is more used to it, and dealing with it better.

But does not being sore after your workout mean the workout was not intense enough? I understand you completely but i still feel like somethings not right......

The more regularly you workout, the less your muscles will feel that soreness.

Also, how on top of your diet are you? Do you know if you're eating enough to add muscle mass?

I'm almost never sore apart from when I'm changing programmes

Have you ever recorded how much you eat on something like the MyFitnessPal app? You need to have an idea rather than just 'a lot'. Too easy to overestimate.

I have done calorie counts before and i eat about 100-200 calories above the recommended amount. Is that enough?

You need at least 500 calories over the recommended for a clean bulk 100/200 could be burned if you do anything extra exercise on that day or your workouts were more intense then usual. You also need to have at least a rough idea of what your eating a day in term of calories if your serious about improving your progress but if your just a recreational lifter you shouldn't really worry about counting calories and dont forget the basic principle of building muscle which is progressive overload if your not progressively overloading in your workout then no matter what you do you wont change

Regarding your original issue the pain you feel is known as D.O.M.S. or delayed onset muscle soreness occurs usually 24-72 hours post strength training, usually from being unaccustomed to the eccentric, or negative portion of the lift being executed(when muscle lengthen). Lifting weights causes microtrauma to the connective tissue and muscles. You may feel muscular tenderness and stiffness post exercise and this is do again to placing greater stressors on your muscles that they are unaccustomed or not used to.
Usually occur in beginners and its not raelly favorable as it can halt your progress due to skipping workout days because of the pain exercise also increases your pain threshold and the more you workout the more you get accustomed to this soreness and hence the less sore your gana be.

I used to be 5 kg lighter than you, now I'm 20 kg heavier. The eating side of things is real simple, if you haven't gained any weight then eat more at EVERY meal.
Saying you eat alot is silly because who are you comparing yourself to? Someone similar to you or brandon lilly? Even then it's irrelevant if you're not growing up your food intake
So you're in school. That means you can still eat breakfast, lunch and a few evening meals the same as anyone else

"I'm training hard enough", said nobody ever.

I was always skinny/ skinny fat. Most of my friends were bigger and stronger than me and none of them trained.
It's not easy if it was everyone would be huge and if it was easy it wouldn't be an achievement that you could take satisfaction from.
It took me much longer than it needed to as I was doing way too much, playing football and doing bjj and mma as well as lifting, 2 to 3 years would've gotten me to where I am now I'd say.
    As for tips
    1. Pick a basic basic programme and get aggressive when you lift, you see way too many skinny lads in gyms, expressionless and making no effort.
    2. What I said previously about food. Meat meat and more meat.
    3. Get 8 hours sleep minimum
    4. Be really really really consistent in doing all of the above
And don't freak out when you put on a tiny bit of fat, you will gain some fat but when you're bigger that's easy to get a handle on

Gym always work just you need to focus more on it. I think you are not getting good training for it so far.
