Yeah, I'll be finding a way to watch it.

    Cracking cast!

Looks good. It has a good cast so shouldn't be that bad

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Kiwi_knock

Interesting so far, lovely scenery. Having all the ads resembling the show was a bit confusing for a while, didn't know what was going on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,033 ✭✭✭Slippin Jimmy

    So who did it? :-)

A lot going on in the first episode. Little bit confused

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 552 ✭✭✭Binka

I was hoping Christopher Eccleston would get a few more lines than this!

Whodunnit? +1 for the smoke monster

Looks good so far. A lot going on, think I will have to watch the first episode again. I'll give it another few weeks before I make my mind up on it.

    Ms

Was it any good? I heard it had lovely scenery but was very dull and slow moving. Might look at it tomorrow did not get to see it tonight.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

    Mediocre

    Two things:

    1) The young science guy who witnessed the "incident" looks the spit of David de Gea

    2) The one with the short hair that works in the cafe/diner is an absolute lasher

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,909 ✭✭✭✭Galwayguy35

Found watching this very hard work but I won't give up just yet, can't see what all the hype was about so far though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,969 ✭✭✭✭alchemist33

Enjoyable so far, but so much information is held back that it's hard to keep up.

    Specualtion and:
They're so clearly hinting that Dan the cop is a baddie that it must be misdirection, methinks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,050 ✭✭✭gazzer

Very overhyped and VERY slow moving. I wasnt sure what the makers of the show were going for in the first half hour. For a while I thought the young kid was
going to turn into some alien type creature after being in contact with the carcass he found :)

Abismally disappointing. How did they get it so wrong. Deserves no second chance with a first episode like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,264 ✭✭✭✭jester77

hmm, I've Sky DE here in Germany and you have to have the film package to get Sky Atlantic. I thought it was part of the normal package back in Ireland or did I remember that wrong?

I was going to check this out.

It's part of the variety package. No need for movies over here.

Terrible first episode. If the seconds no better I won't be watching a third.:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,507 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

    Just watched the first episode.

I'm not sure what to make of it really

It did get better with the introduction of Stanley Tucci's character (DCI Morton).

I'll give the second episode a go anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 552 ✭✭✭Binka

I think it was very dull until he turned up. It's obviously a character driven drama not action driven, but the inhabitants of the place seem mainly unpleasant and unhappy. Maybe this is a realistic portrayal of life in the arctic circle but I'm having trouble warming to any of the characters and I'm not sure who's side I'm supposed to be on.

I'll definitely give it a few more episodes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭Alfred Borden

Have to go against the grain here and say I really enjoyed that :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,804 ✭✭✭recipio

I thought it was Alaska until I saw 'Politi' on the cars !
Yes, its a slow moving angst thriller. DI Morton is a nice addition. He asks questions, the sheriff stares into mid space ............very Scandinavian.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Kiwi_knock

I thought it was interesting anyway, willing to give it another shot. The allusions to the supernatural are a bit off putting, hope it doesn't go down that road. I don't think you can trust any character yet.

Well I'm in foul humour after an inch of snow, so no wonder they're all unpleasant :D

I'd had enough by the time Stanley turned up. Might watch the last 20 mins tomorrow but I was just tired and bored at that point.

Seriously disappointing as there's a lot of potential there. It's just waaaay too long and that takes all the suspense out of it.

I did laugh at the sauna scene though!

Also devastated that Christopher eccleston got like 4 lines... :/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,133 ✭✭✭FloatingVoter

I'm sure Eccleston will feature in flashbacks and
    hopefully not as a zombie
    .
It is a bit Twin Peaks with all the black humour and wit removed.
I'll stick with it for now. I might keep Death in Paradise stored up to watch as a warming antidote afterwards.

I was very worried for the first half of the episode but I guess they have to set up characters but it picked up and by the end I was more than willing to commit to another episode.

Still pretty unsure about it but Iceland looks fantastic!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,384 ✭✭✭✭Birneybau

The exteriors look great but the interiors remind me of a soap opera somewhat, like 'Hollyoaks' or something!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,368 ✭✭✭naughto

Did the young lad get out of bed to go watch his daddy hump the pretty lady
Surly he would have more wrong with him out in - god knows what degrees bar frost bite.

The pig in the incubator thingy was funny

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,428 ✭✭✭chewed

For all the hype this show got, I thought the 1st episode was awful and very difficult to watch. I really wanted to watch it and give it a chance, but I ended up turning it off 10 mins before the end.

It reminded me of Eldorado or Casualty in the Arctic. I couldn't connect with any of the characters and overall direction of the episode was all over the place with too much happening. .

Sorry, but I won't even give the next episode a chance. Life's too short!

And less violence, sex and dwarves.

This show needs a Lannister. :p

I was going to go back and watch the end and then I thought life is too short for bad TV... there's so many good series I still have to watch!

Intriguing I think is the word. It was evident early on there was something sinister going on behind the affable appearance of the residents of this Arctic town, and I place the blame firmly at that much spoken about but rarely seen research centre.

You could draw any number of conspiracy theories from the opening episode so I'll share one of my own; It seems a little too convenient that the sick child ended up in the research centre for frostbite and was not airlifted to the mainland as originally intended. Again this is purely to support my suspicion of THE research centre. The scene with the pig didn't allay any fears..

I thought Richard Dormer was absolutely brilliant as the conflicted? sheriff and the rest of the cast were equally as strong as each other. Stanley Tucci will definitely ruffle a few feathers (or wind chimes) as the investigation takes pace and I'm also quite interested (male testosterone kicking in) in the angry young man returning the sheriff's "****ing rifle".

Nothing left to be said except Welcome To Fortitude!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,313 ✭✭✭Mycroft H

    Another thing...

There seems to be a *lot* of money floating about; new cars, jeeps and the police even using new subarus. And what's with the houses decked out with everything out of a fancy IKEA?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,268 ✭✭✭✭uck51js9zml2yt

    I've watched it twice :)
    Dumping sky in 8 weeks.

    How long is this series?

A lot of potential but a little unfocused. It's taken elements from a lot of genres and mashed them together so it's a but messy. Definite potential and worth following up.

I was there when Twin Peaks aired first. The general consensus was " Wha ?....but we'll be back next week". It turned out to be the bedrock upon which modern quality TV is built.

The same with Lost....and anybody with a brain did a runner after season one.

    Time will tell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,185 ✭✭✭Snoopy1

I was really looking forward to this, but then when I watched it I was like meh
It was a bit confusing in places, seems to be 2 stories going on.
I'll watch it next week, and see if it gets any better.

Was the Elena character a prostitute ? I know she was working the desk of the hotel but the copper was talking to her about a license at one point then asking if she met any one later on
