My age seems to be against me in getting a job

    Hi Folks,
I'm a qualified electronic engineer with a lot of experience. I'm a test engineer/technician you'd call me I guess. To cut a long story short I'm unemployed for just the last 10 weeks or so and though I see myself as being well capable of many of the jobs going, any or most replies give me the impression that its my AGE. I'm only 47 have nearly 25 years in the electronic industry and have a wide skill base. I dont program is the only thing but know all the OS's pretty well including Linux, to some degree.
I thought I was sorted on a couple of applications only to be told I was 'too senior'. My salary I recon is competitive and I make sure to make this note when using a cover letter in some instances.
I just dont get it, they want all the experience they can get yet they wont hirer , my age, so it seems.
I'm fit, dont smoke. I drink only sometimes. I get up early, like to be kept busy and yet companies seem to think they knnow better.

Does anyone else have this problem?

    Cheers
