Jerseys on casual Friday

Is a jersey appropriate for casual Friday in an office? Everyone dresses pretty casual every day regardless but the policy is Friday is casual day. Is a soccer jersey too casual?

Need to know before I get dressed in the morning.

EDIT: If you haven't read this thread, don't bother. Nothing but stuck up individuals preaching from their thrones about how jerseys are only worn by pikeys and anyone who wears them is the equivalent of Satan.

If it's a Tipp or Kilkenny jersey it'd be justified given the week but otherwise no.

Nah it's fine, but you will look like a gowl. Hey I'm an adult, go sports team

There's a rule in our place that sports Jerseys can't be worn as part of casual Friday.

I'd imagine a sports jersey would look quite unprofessional regardless of it being casual friday.

Jesus, replies here make me thankful for where I work :) People don't give a fuk what you wear. I swear one of the lads on my team has the most extensive soccer jersey collection I've ever seen, wearing them 4 days outta 5. Lesser known good ones. Fair play to him.

Just wear a Tshirt and a jumper and you won't have to listen to "what happened with ye, ye are ****e now". Derp derp.

If you have to think this much about it, don't do it.

If I see a guy wearing a long sleeve man United jersey tomorrow, I'll tut tut you

A fine choice of jersey. But not really suitable attire for an office job, unless it's a small company.

If it's a trendy IT start up in Dublin, you'll be grand with a middle class student fetishist club like FC St Pauli or a esoteric 2nd division East European outfit. You might even get your hole after the Friday drinks if there's any mots there into Damien Dempsey.

Try your other half baby doll racing gear maybe.

Wearing football jerseys should only be allowed whilst playing football or going to a match

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,068 ✭✭✭pauliebdub

They look a bit skangery and it will prevent others from respecting you or taking you seriously if you wear one in a professional office setting. Rugby shirts seem to be ok.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,046 ✭✭✭Berserker

GAA and football shirts are not really suitable for casual Friday to be honest. You could probably get away with a rugby shirt.

No sports jerseys of any discription or stupid polo shirt with logo

Plenty of people wore them in my old office job on casual days, women included. Casual means exactly that.

wear a onesie to test the waters

If I took the replies seriously here a lot of my office would be sacked already. My mentor was wearing a navy Welsh away rugby jersey today. Saw someone last weekend wearing a new Zealand jersey. Rugby shirts seem to be fine but the soccer equivalent are frowned upon for whatever reason.

Lots of people saying as well it's only okay for small startups and the like. This company is one of the largest in the world.

It's business casual not lying around at home casual.

The problem with some Irish men is that they equate "casual" with "bum". One can be casual and still dress well. Save the jersey for the matches

It's business casual Monday to Thursday.. Which generally involves people wearing tshirts, cardigans, hoodies, polos, jeans, etc.

    Rarely a shirt in sight.

I'm in an office and usually just wear jeans and a t-shirt, when it comes to sports tops I might wear a Rugby shirt or a Polo Shirt of a soccer/GAA/rugby team. GAA and soccer jersies seem to be frowned upon as too casual, although then again, if i was to be any more casual, e.g. Casual Friday, then I guess that's what I'd be wearing!!!

Same as myself. My usual attire is jeans and a tshirt. Sometimes I'll throw on a cardigan or a zippy!

Think I'll leave the jersey for now. Especially a United jersey, it kind of stands out. Might chance my Roma one in a few weeks after I buy it.

Must suggest uncomfortable clothes Fridays to him tomorrow :)

I wore a Meath jersey for my first casual Friday in my last job and got a warning :/ No jerseys of any type were allowed, you'd think they'd tell you that beforehand, the clowns

I'd keep away from jerseys OP, ask when you're in tomorrow and you'll know for next week if they're allowed or not

No sports jerseys are allowed, as it tends to attract the idiots who want to fight you because of our team.

Jerseys are more leisure than casual if you ask me. I'd stay well clear!

Easily sorted. Millwall FC jersey....shaved head....nosering and knuckle dusters ready. This works equally well for men too.

While working in a bookies it would appear :P

I'd be of the opinion where I'd wonder why so many people seem to care so much about what others wear to be honest...

They're inappropriate on any situation where you're not either actively playing or watching a game IMO. Or locked onto the basement of your own house. Hideous things.

They're occasionally okay on 7 year olds as well, but only when they don't comprise 90% of their wardrobe.

Socks would be required, shin pads for extra wanker credit.
