Crystal meth produced in Chinese laboratories has hit the streets of Dublin, it is feared.

Street dealers have been selling drugs that they claim is the highly-addictive substance at the centre of US TV series Breaking Bad in increasing quantities in recent weeks.

I'd love to read a meth story that didn't mention Breaking Bad. I wonder if dealers use that as their selling point.

It's also been going around a lot longer than 6 weeks.

Old news. it's hit our streets alright. I've been hitting it for the last 3 months nonstop: the scaremongering is a joke, cm is nowhere near as addictive as made out.

There are various "Faces of Meth" sites such as this one, intended to show the effects that Meth has on a person's life. I'm pretty sure I've already seen some of these people on Dublin's O'Connell St., this week.

If people haven't got the message about Meth by now, I have no sympathy whatsoever.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

So according to the link it's not crystal meth but mdpv and pvp which can both be bought easily online.

Why keep referring to crystal meth and the ways it can be taken when it's not crystal meth being sold?

    Great article.

The only Meth addicts I've seen were a brother and sister on "Cops"who were apparently having sex.

It's not from China, it's from Nth Korea.

They're a bit late to the party.

It hit the streets about five years ago, largely thanks the Nigerian criminal gangs.

Wait now lads, is it the Chinese, Nigerians or the North Koreans that are bringing it in?

I've got some tasty racial slurs teed up for all of them, just give me the green light on which group to aim for and we're good to go. :)

"Crystal", "Meth", "Crystal Meth"...such boring names.

We should go back to what it was called back in the old days when the Luftwaffe had it for breakfast before a mission - "Nazi Crank".

    What a great name.

When it hits the streets of Bray that woman won't have to get the Dart into town every day.

Why does the headline say Crystal Meth when the article explicitly states that the drugs are MDPV?

Its almost as if "drug that was legal until relatively recently continues to be available on the street" wouldn't sell papers...

    ^^^^

    That's excellent. :D

On a serious note, is it not a given that such drugs will come here given the insane level of glorification of such things on our tv and cinema screens to impressionable young people?

it was already available in ireland, just not terribly common. i have seen it.

Why the fck would it be coming from China? There's plenty labs in the Czech Republic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 387 ✭✭DaveDaRave

So people are selling MDPV as crystal meth.

Therefore crystal meth has not hit our shores ?
MDPV was a previously legal high along with mephedrone etc. It can be bought by the KG from chinese suppliers pretty cheap, but its not methamphetmine, which is actually pretty expensive.

This is the 2nd news report i heard about "crystal meth" that actually ended up being another drug, in that case it was mephedrone.

yes it has I would say....

According to National Family Support Network who have said:

Many family members in Dublin expressing concern about the rise in crystal meth use which is highlighted in the article below (independent.ie article). If you are dealing with issues of substance abuse in your family please contact your local Family Support Network for help.

They deal with the aftermath so I would trust their own contacts/reports more so than the media...

I really can't understand how all this stuff is still been taken by drug-users.

Surely the word on the street must have got out there by now that this stuff gives you an upset tummy?

crystal meth doesnt really have the same dangers as heroin. its quite different, fatalities would be way lower.

i wasnt going to take meth, but then i saw it on breaking bad.

now i live in a toilet

For the last 10-15 years there is scaremongering in the media that crystal meth is taking over from heroin etc and it will be the end of us all. Then they post the same old tired photos of a before meth/after meth.

    Lazy journalism.

    20 quid for 4 hits? Yeah I doubt that's meth. :P

A lot of people find A-pvp and mdpv more addictive than meth funny enough.

I want some of that good stuff yer man had in Limitless, when is that due to hit the streets?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,789 ✭✭✭✭ScumLord

I'd say it's just some shrewd marketing from dealers, after Breaking bad they were probably selling everything as meth.

Junkie: Are you sure this is meth?
    Dealer: Fo sure yo.
Junkie: It looks an awful lot like a box full of blue smarties.
Dealer: That's what meth looks like yo.

Who cares? It's not as if there aren't already harmful, addictive drugs available on our streets.

You do not want to live in a meth infested area. Certain parts of my city look like a thriller music video. It's frightening. And the crime a lot of meth addicts commit to support their habit

That's sounds very entertaining, I guess you'd get a bit sick of hearing thriller every night but at least they put on a show.
