    Entry list here

Entries include Nico Roche. Wiggins and Dowsett represent GBR and last off is due to be Tony Martin

The UCI youtube channel should have live coverage

Wiggo v Panzerwagen, can't wait. Wiggins was savage in the TTT, think he's in the best form we have seen to challenge Tony on a TT like this.

    Martin or Rohan Dennis IMO.

55/1 on Dennis, good e/w punt if you fancy him.

Just looking at the Start List - one of the Slovenians, Matej Mohoric, is younger than Ryan Mullen:eek:

But he rides for Canondale and so is ineligible for the U23 championships.

Didn't realise there was such a restriction - another reason for Mullen to steer clear of the pro teams for a while. However surely if it's the world championships there really shouldn't be such a restriction? In my view the U23s should be open to the best in the world and not just those that have not picked up a contract with a pro team

I guess though that may open up a can of worms at the other end of the age scale with current pros potentially being eligible for World Masters events, although those events are run independently from the "traditional" worlds, even if under the auspices of the UCI

I certainly think that unless some Pro-Tour team arrives on Mullen's doorstep with a wheelbarrow full of money he should stay with An Post if only so he can have another go at getting those stripes next year.

As far as I know the slightly fudged system with U23s and Elite is an accident of history - there was no official pro TT championships, the Grand Prix des Nations functioned as a de facto champs instead. There was an amateur WC event and I think that lives on as the U23 / non-world-tour category. It's a solution only the UCI could come up with.

Interesting stuff about that age/pro-team restriction, I never knew it existed either.

U23's not being eligible for U23 events seems silly to me too, something like the Olympics attempting to block off the pro's before. If for instance the U23 TT title is a strong incentive for a rider, it seems an unfair either-or situation to be put in in terms of signing to a higher tiered team or not.

In terms of today's TT, I wouldn't be surprised if Wiggins won given how strong he seems & maybe more importantly how Martin seemed a bit below par in the TTT, & as he himself said of how he is right now.

Is there anywhere I can watch highlights of this this evening

I see live coverage is only on the BBC red button, so cant Sky plus it.

I presume Youtube channel allows play back

There's a full replay of yesterday's women's TT currently available, so I would imagine they will do the same for today's TT

Just turned on the Youtube channel. Blue skies, so nice you'd almost believe you could be in Ireland.

Mohoric, the 19 year old just started. Pushing that point again - seems to make as much sense to me he not being eligible for the U23s because he's with a Pro team as over 23s not eligible for the seniors because they're with Pro teams.

That's fascinating, nice one tom :)

    I that 100% definatly the case ?

I always thought it wasnt a rule but that Pro teams wanted / push their guys to ride in the elite champs rather than in the U23 events.

I could be wrong but my understanding is there is no rule precluding Mohoric or any other U23 with a Proteam from riding U23.

But like I said I may be mistaken.

    EDIT My understanding was wrong

9.2.020 Under 23 riders who belong to a UCI ProTeam may not ride the Under 23 individual road time trial.
An under 23 rider who is attached to a UCI ProTeam for the period from 1 August to 31 December
under the provisions of article 2.15.110 may ride the Under 23 individual time trial

Because Stephen Roche is his dad.

I think they were saying the other day during the U23 TT that Keung, who came 3rd, certainly won't be competing next year even though still young enough, which sounded like it wasn't a matter of choice. . . . Just seen your edit.

Nico must have an irrational hatred of this circuit.

Poor first section from Nico. 48seconds down in 27th place

A bit better in the second section....68 seconds down and up to 20th place

Is there any reason we did not let Ryan Mullen ride this for us?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,606 ✭✭✭MPFG

Maybe Ryan Mullen didn'tt want to as riding under 23 RR and more likely to get a result there

Nico through the third check at 1min 59. Currently 24th out of 41 riders on the road

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,507 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

I think Wiggo will win this.

Stronger finish from Nico 2.28 down. Currently 17th out of 33 with most of the favorites yet to come. I'd imagine he'll be very disappointed with that performance

Alot worse than last year (when Bjarne Riis in ear)
He went out too slow imo...probably hoping to keep energy for climb but too far off the pace and too much to make up

Dennis well ahead of Malori and Dowsett. 8 seconds ahead of Dumoulin too.

    Loving that live time sheet

    Because he's in the U23s - can't ride both

Just looking at the timing board... looks like Tony Martin is tearing up the course 4seconds up on Wiggo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 77 ✭✭Ultegra

Martin 4 secs better than Wiggins after 1st time check

Those hills at the end should play into Wiggins hands though. If there is a small gap between them going onto the third time check, my money would be on Wiggins

Martin 2'64 slower than Wiggo through the second check
