Yeh I applied and have heard nothing. It was the same last year too, I feel like the jobs are all gone before they even put the advertisement up

When I worked with them before, Christmas staff got taken on start of October all the way up until start of November. So still hope Hollister.

But to be brutally honest I think making this thread was a bad idea for your behalf :p It's posted in the work and jobs section. So many viewed it. Am pretty sure you've just given a few dozen people the idea to apply for Argos now.

argos start employing from early september actually (I worked their for 2 years)

the people employed in september are people who worked the previous year so they normally (if you work your arse off) give you a call the following year to see if you want to work their again.

October they take on about 6-8 people as its not quite busy yet except for when stock comes in so if you get a call to start in october and your a man, expect to be working on the headsets until you're contract ends. also the 6-8 people depends on the size of the store also, but as far as I know jervis and illac take on that many in october

argos employ right up until 2 weeks before christmas so don't give up yet.

Its purely random if you get a call, I was employed as christmas, got full time out of it, but they don't check any applications or even read them until the interview stage. They just grab a handfull and call the people in, the rest are put aside if their needed.

In november thats when the real number of people start getting employed, probably close to 30-40 people (full time and part time) in jervis alone was employed.

Don't expect many more hours then 30 a week. Argos prefer to give every christmas temp 20-30 hours a week (roughly 6 hours a day 5 days a week you can expect) and employ loads of people, then employ few people and give them 40+ hours a week.

think they still pay 9.06 ph.

Great place too work though, every weekend while I was their specially at christmas we would all head out into town. Managers are quite cool as well. Just don't be a slacker, because you will be let go straight away and replaced before you can even give an excuse. Think last christmas 5 people alone in jervis one was let go for taking the piss.

Work hard, Party hard on weekends and enjoy it if you get it :) probably one of the better places I worked.

I applied to all three Argos's in Limerick about two weeks back, after an interview I've gotten a job with one. :) (Pending submittance of my contract forms and such.)

Wait, do you have to apply to each store individually or just online generally ?

What did you do to get the job ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 sylphlv

I heard back from them within a week, I think.
And this was a week ago.. since then, haven't heard anything. Ehh..

    I went through http://cb-homeretailgroup-fo.luceosolutions.com/

Then I got an email with the link to apply for positions. (Actually, the link was for UK positions only, so I had to find the Irish jobs on the site myself.)

I applied for 3 different areas but only got one response.

The role playing was basically taking notes about the layout of the store, and how it's designed with the shopping experience in mind, so mention stuff like how there's impulse items on the way to the counter, how easy the touchscreen kiosks are etc., then you will go and ask actual customers if they need any help finding anything or knowing anything. The interview was questions about how you would help Argos, why Argos operates as it does (keeping stuff in the back is intended to reduce costs to pass savings onto the consumer), how flexible you are.

Fantastic , keep them coming if you think off anything else.

Alright, as much detail as I can remember:

The activity was first me going around the storefront taking notes about how argos is laid out. I pointed out the impulse items on the way to the tills, the touchscreen kiosks, the big catalogues and the smaller themed catalogues, the leaflets about addon services such as insurance at the tills, the posters about big new Christmas toys and games like Disney Infinity and Tomodachi Life, the quick-purchase card machines.

Then I went around asking customers if they needed help finding any products. One lady couldn't read the product code so I helped put it on the little slip for her.

The interview, as well as what I said, was questions like what you would do if you noticed a co-worker giving great customer service, what you would tell someone who wanted to buy something but couldn't carry it to their car (home delivery, holding the product so someone can pick it up for them, bringing it to their car.) I mentioned I would make sure pencils and slips were put back in their holders if they were left around, I mentioned my knowledge of what might be big christmas technology sells like Smartwatches etc.

I can't remember what else I said right now.

That's unlucky, when I got the email there was loads of positions in Dublin, Dundrum, Tallaght, liffey vally, and nutgrove, I applied for all them only heard back from one.

I saw 3 listings when applying. Only see the one now :pac:
I am starting to think Argos has gotten ALOT of applications from this. Luck at the draw at this point, guys.

Guy in the interview said they had 2000 applicants for that shop alone.

It's an insane amount. What chance does anyone have? like of course these positions will be filled. there will be lucky people.

But when you step back and look at it... it's worse than a raffle with 2000 entires :pac: As when your number gets pulled out of the drum someone doesnt examine it and say "i dont think this is a suitable candidate" :pac:
