That's the way to do it. Sorted, no hassle, easy.

Was just down in Lidl last night and the granny in front of me was amazingly quick at packing her bags. I think (most) Irish people have now copped on that you gotta move sh1t quick in these stores, for the benefit of everyone.

Their till area is badly designed. There's no reason why they can't have an area for bagging at the tills a la other supermarkets. Having to put stuff back in the shopping trolley increases the chances of something getting damaged.

I couldn't facepalm anymore at this post.....

Pause for a moment, and re-think.

Chriiiiiiist you did not just post that.

When I worked in Lidl, the reason the tills were the way they were was because you had to hit an average of 35 scanned items a minute and under no circumstance were you to talk to the customer.

You also had to memorise the stupidly long list of vegetable codes that would frequently change. If you were caught on camera looking at the list to see what the code was for, say, a honeydew melon you were reprimanded.

This was way back when Lidl had a less than stellar record for treating their staff and my store had a steady mix of managers put there for training who frequently ratted each other out so they could climb the ladder. Horrible place that made everyone paranoid of each other.

I get Vietnam-like flashbacks whenever I hear those till bells go.................*shudder*

I love the quickness of Lidl. Cant beat it. In super valu, you'd be waiting 10 minutes just to be seen to. They are too busy talking and just moving at snails pace because they are normally all over 50 years of age on the tills. I hate it.

To speed things up further, they should have you swipe card then stand by the exit while they chuck your items into the bag being held open by you.

One does not simply figure out how to cram four crates of Perlenbacher XXL into one shopping bag after having paid for them. ;)

Quickness and lidl do not go hand in hand. Que in lidl/aldi are always brutal slow and they never open extra tills if they get busy

My experience is exactly the opposite of this.

Ditto. Can't fault them on that - if there's a queue beyond the end of the belt, any of the Aldidly stores I've been in are always pronto about getting another checkout in action.

What used to boil my peas, was when I had a full trolley, and while unloading it, some jackass next in the queue would start dumping their stuff on the belt where it was fecking obvious I'd need the space.
Training, the customers need training in observation and dexterity.

    +1

Always stuck behind someone in SV bladdering to the cashier about something or other, if they want to talk let them do it at home.

Or else taking all day to pack bags, it's not rocket science to organise things so they don't get squashed and have the card ready to go instead of taking another 5 minutes to find it.

Yeah I had some fella pushing my stuff up along the belt even before I had finished, some people are as thick as 2 short planks.
