Well lad im training my first springer spaniel here at the moment. He is about 14 months old and is going well but one little problem he has is dropping the retrieved dummy just before he sits at my feet. Its like as If he is racing back to sit in front of me and not bothered anymore about what he was carrying!?...any idea how to correct the lads?

Try teaching him the command " hold". That way he should only let go at ur command.

Another thing I find that helps is just as the dog comes to u. Tell him heel. And walk with the dog while the dog continues to carry dummy. Now the dog can't anticipate u trying to take dummy now that he's back.

    Hope these help.

put a tennis ball or dummy in his mouth while sitting with him and start rubbing under his chin while praising him while its still in his mouth, keep this up for awhile and see if it makes a difference.
