Got the leather, it feels and looks nicer to me. Both look good though.

    sena cases all the way

I held both in my hands. Thought the silicone felt better but it's going to be personal choice. Either way, I bought my Spigen Hybrid Ultra on Amazon.

I had the leather cover for 5s so went for the silicone for the 6plus feels and looks great adds very little to the phone.

Does anybody know anywhere in town that will sell an iPhone 6 case tomorrow ? 3 are delivering my phone and would like to put it straight into a case

I got the black leather case. Feels amazing on the phone and fits like a glove. Highly recommended

Compub have a selection - they're just down from Grafton Street, beside American Apparel. I'd imagine the networks will have a few too.

O2 usually have a good selection for launch day.

CompuB, Grafton St, have some in stock.

Was on to CompuB today and they have a small selection in at the moment but over the next two weeks they expect it to expand exponentially.

I'm personally going to hold on until they get the Speck CandyShell in stock - best case I ever owned. Ordered a cheap silicone case and a screen protector to keep it safe until they come into stock.

All the Carphone Warehouses will have Otterboxes from tomorrow morning I believe. Possibly other covers too.

And if you are that keen Carphone Warehouse on Grafton St is open from midnight tonight.

    This has changed.

I talked to one of the guys there about 4:30 this afternoon and the midnight launch isn't happening. I think they're opening at 7am instead. He didn't elaborate but I'm guessing it might be due to lack of stock. No point in opening at midnight to sell a dozen phones.

Cheers for the heads up. I was slightly toying with the idea of heading in for a cover as Im just 7 or 8mins drive away. I'll stay put so.

i can't decide what case to get.

Do the cases negate the whole "touch screen all the way to the edge" feature of the of the new phones?

Toying with the idea of forgoing a case and getting phone insurance for the first time instead.

Anyone in the vodafone stores this morning know if they have any in stock?

    Cheers,

ive been using my Spigen Ultra Hybrid for a week now.

I have to be honest, the case ruins the new sleek design of the phone, but theres no way im going without. I tend to drop my phones from sofas, chairs, desks etc so im not taking the risk.

Ive had one on all my previous phones so not stopping now.

Now, if i was a lotto winner and money no object, i would 100% not use a case as the new design feels so good to hold but its actually quite grippy too.

Does anyone know if the Express Replacement Service is free with Applecare?

I've used it under warranty before and it costs €30 or so unless you want to send off your iPhone and wait for a repaired/replacement one.

Unless ERS is free, considering there's already a €69 excess fee it would be nearly a 100 quid to get something repaired/replaced WITH Applecare - which seems like a pretty crap deal.

    Great, thanks.

Thinking I'm gonna go with this rather than paying monthly insurance and dealing with some random insurance company who'll do anything to get out of settling a claim in the event of a break.

EDIT - another question: Does buying Applecare extend your standard warranty to two years? i.e. Any defect in the phone is covered for an extra 12 months?

MobileFun put up a good video on Youtube reviewing quite a few iPhone 6 cases if you search for it.

Lets you see what they're actually like rather than relying on photos & reviews on websites.

(I don't work for MobileFun or have any connection with them, before anyone asks)

I got a nice slim cygnett from compub. Nice fit, good quality, no bulk, protects phone, matt black finish with good grip. €14.29 good value

Yes it does also gives you software support for two years I've had apple care on my last two phones and it's paid for itself with avoiding the ERS.

The only problem with cancelling insurance is if the phone is stolen you're snookered without it.

ive had the defender on all my iphones over the years, and when i go to sell them on, this case pays as the phones are spotless.

The only problem is your phone looks like a brick in them. Horrible looking case ,I've never liked otter box cases

Anybody interested in a temporary case Dealz are stocking cheap hard cases for the 6 and had a good few screen protectors as well. I was in the Talbot street one and picked up a screen protector.

Cases were small in supply but there was plenty of iPhone 6 screen protectors. Seems like manufacturers are still designing/redesigning their current cases and screen protectors for the curved edges of the new screens. These will do me for now.

Check their website here you can get an idea of that they're like.

I never use a case as it ruins the iPhone's sleek design. Even more so with the 6's edge glass.

But when I travel, I like my iPhone's to travel in an Ikonic Edge leather pouch. I've been using them since the iPhone 4 and have ordered one this year too.

Apple spend millions designing a fantastic new phone with emphasis on how it feels and handles and you guys spend money to put your phones into rough boxes. Would you ever use the phone as it was intended FFS. Just get a slip case for your pocket but use the phone as it was intended, life is for living!!

Take it you don't have kids? I don't either but if I did, my phone would be wrapped in 100 layers of bubble wrap.

Some people need cases as they're just too clumsy, like the feel of one or just want to be safe.

What is odd however is why you feel the need to leave the comment above in a thread specifically about iPhone cases.

If someone wants a case, let them be, it's no sweat off my ball sack (insert genitalia of choice here) it shouldn't be off yours either.

Anyone go for the official apple silicone cover? They look very tidy from the pics but are on the steep side Price wise.

I haven't had a case for any of my previous iphones but think I will go for something this time.

I bought one for the 6plus it added very little bulk to the phone but I didn't like the feel of it so I have gone for the black leather Apple case for the 6. Oh and the silicone case is a lot more rigid than it looks.

I received the Apple leather case for the iPhone 6 it's a beauty, fits really well and feels great. It's not as rigid as the 5s leather cover its a quality case I would definitely recommend this case.

Apple also design and sell cases to put their slippery phones into in case you hadn't noticed.

Cases are like condoms. Not everyone needs one, but the stakes are high if you don't have one on and you drop the ball.

    Try :

    CompuB : Graftin Street
    Arnotts : Henry Street
Both are apple resellers (not iPhones though).

Or check adverts.ie some may be selling up.

At this early stage it will be a case (pardon the pun) of going shop to shop to find something you like. Even the likes of dealz or the €2 shop make small slivers and one might just suit you.

I chanced one of the chepo ones of amazon initially. A transparent silicone one was 3 pounds (free delivery in UK and I have loads of parcel motel credit to use up). Will report back on it when it arrives.

There was a very nice case one similar to the official one on mobilefun for 12 incl delivery but it sold out very very fast. Will try out the cheap one initially anyway and try to pick up some screen protectors in a shop some where.

Will be keeping my eye out for a decent heavy duty cover also like an otter box defender but cheaper if possible as I will only use it when out on the farm at weekends.

I bought a cheap one on eBay ahead of buying the 6 so had it just on time. It's a excellent and will certainly get me by untill a bigger selection comes available.

Bought this case. Something a bit different. Bought TEMPERED GLASS GENUINE Ebay Item # 351173590725. Looking forward to getting the phone and these yokes.

Will comment on the case when I get everything.

i ordered the official leather case for my 6+

It arrived today and the tidy fit is really nice - adds very little bulk to the phone.

But I'm not sure I like the cover over the power / sleep and volume buttons. I find I need to press quite a bit harder on the cover to get to the button beneath.

From what I've read the buttons become easier to press after a bit of use. They need to loosen up.

I think that's actually a positive, as when I had a Samsung GS3, I was constantly hitting the power button by accident.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 25,558 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dades

I much prefer having a cover that isn't missing chunks on every side much better than one leaving open spaces for all the buttons.

Of course in terms of aesthetics and using a black case it doesn't help that apple keeps making their dark model iPhone lighter every release. I actually had to double-check I had a space grey last week as frankly it's far more silver than grey.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,470 ✭✭✭JoeA3

I got the leather Apple one today too and I like it a lot. I had the equivalent on my old 5 too and it protected the phone very well without adding any bulk... but for anyone new to these "leather" cases, don't be surprised if they start looking a bit frayed and worn after 6-8 months.

The one on the 6 doesn't cover the bottom of the phone like it did on the 5 though... so I expect the bottom will be prone to some scuffing over time.
