female friendships

    Perhaps its just something that I've recently realised but something in me has always resented female bonding, it always struck me that when it came to relationships, it was essentially important that I had the approval of the friends of the lady I was dating. As a fairly rational male, I couldn't give a fiddlers about what friends of mine think about a girl I'm dating (within reason of course). Perhaps its just been the women I've dated but I always felt my fate rested on what her 'friends' thought.

    As far as I can see, women compete against each other but at the same time have very very strong bonds which is cool. Recently I was dumped due to mostly my own shortcomings, I actually became jealous of the female bonds she had and the dreaded neediness in me came out. I got that last blow of a text saying 'I've been talking it through with the girls all day and...' of course its never usually a good result for the bloke when women thrash relationships out with their friends.

    Anyway, this might all seem like a bit of a ramble but it definately got me interested in learning more about bonds between women, as it is something that is quite important for a man to learn about.

    Sex and the city has so much to answer for :mad:

    Sex and the City? Seriously?

    There were female friendships before Sex and the City.

    Of course I want my friends to like my boyfriend but I have the final say even if they don't. If someone is treating me badly, of course I'll confide in my friends and of course they'll advise me on what's best for me (if they're good mates) but the decision is mine. Plenty of women stay in terrible relationships despite the opinions of their friends - just like men.

    You mentioned elsewhere that you acted like a dick. What true friend would ever advise their friend to stay with someone who acts the dick after 3 months?

    I'll clear some things up for you;

    Women are not all the same.
    Sex and the city does not have anything to "answer" for. (I know I've personally only seem one episode!).
    People who are being a dick in a relationship should take responsibility for that rather than find something else to blame.
    The Ladies Lounge is not here for men to come and interview women, it's a breach of the forum charter which I suggest you have a read of.
