I'm not a teacher. But I still need clothes and transport.

Why is the idea that being a teacher is very expensive compared to everything else ?

    We don't tax people over €100,000 ? Don't they pay 52% on anything over €100,000 ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,130 ✭✭✭Yakuza

Joe getting very defensive about tax on higher incomes!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,351 ✭✭✭✭Harry Angstrom

Here we go with the €50 a week nonsense again.

The extra €50 doesn't last very long when somebody has to buy new clothes, shirts, shoes etc, not to mention transport costs and lunches. There's something very wrong when a person doing ScamBridge ends up with less than the basic €188 per week when work expenses are taken into account. It's nothing but slave labour and a massaging of the unemployment figures.

Exactly I hate when these callers just throw out populist sound bites like that and as for Apple etc...is this caller going to get the thousands employed by these multi nationals a job when they leave the country?

I'd gladly host a week of Da Lahv Lahn for €50. It would be a very different show mind you, but I guarantee you it would be entertaining…….;):D

Fair point but what I was referring to was the guy stating "working for €50 a week", to try backup his point - as opposed to "working for €50 extra a week". There's a big difference.

Maybe the prospective teachers should do economics first, in order to understand the concept of supply and demand.

Sensible caller alert, "Education is about the children not the teachers salary" well said caller.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,374 ✭✭✭washiskin

When I worked in retail you got a 4-6 week trial period on a full wage & if you or the employer wasn't happy then you left. But you were paid a proper wage for the time & not pin money.

Here comes duffys loaded questions...."are you saying you want teachers out o work...next caller"...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,130 ✭✭✭Yakuza

There's a big difference between an employer being entitled to pay expenses and their actually doing it. And then you'll have the regular employees looking for expenses on top of their salary too!

Well after I'd cut off all the cranks and loons after 3 seconds each in the first 30mins of Monday's Show I'd have a lot of free time to interview individual boardsies. Topics on ButtersSuki's Agenda would include:
    1. Bertie Ahern and the lies he told at the Mahon Tribunal
    2. Joe's fees
    3. Ivan Calorie's Solicitor in a new feature on "Prison Fitness"
    4. An update on Wendy from Wendy's Whistle Stop Cafe
    5. Brian Cowen's Wine Review
    6. An analysis of complaints received by RTE about Da Lahv Lahn and its regular host
    7. Nepotism in RTE, a debate featuring Lottie Ryan and ButtersSuki, chaired by guest presenter Harry Angstrom

    And other such nonsense topics.

Do they all not realise that to get a job these days, it's not what you know, it's who you know. Simples!
