Gamecube on HDTV?

I need a little help with this if you guys wouldn't mind. So I got a new tv ( http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/2758879/Trail/searchtext%3EGREAT+OFFERS+ON+SELECTED+TELEVISIONS.htm ) and I would like to hook up my GameCube to it, but I don't really follow the whole composite cable or changing settings etc. Could someone point me in the right direction please? Or could I just use a Wii and would the picture be clear or blurry though it?

Also as I have in another topic, I will be hooking up a Megadrive too, I have heard there is a little box you can get to connect your old systems to an LED tv to give the picture that old tv look with the tiny lines going through the picture just like a standard tv (not explaining myself too clearly hear, sorry), is this true? Anyone here got one of these?

Thanks aging for any help you can offer :)

That little box would be a XRGB or a framemeister and they cost a couple of hundred euros. They'll add scanlines to give an antialiased effect you get from CRTs but the colours still will never be a good as a CRT unless you have a plasma. The best bet is to just get proper scart RGB cables for the megadrive and Gamecube to get the best possible picture. You can get component for the gamecube but PAL systems don't support it.

    Aww really?

So when you say proper scart cables, which brand or type do you mean? I'm guessing the Megadrive will look rank on the LED :(

It shouldn't look too bad. Consolegoods.co.uk have some RGB scart cables for megadrive systems. Just be careful to order the correct one for your model of Megadrive

Make sure they are RGB scart, not composite which is the yellow red and white cables, they give appalling picture quality made even worse on a LCD.

A LED TV is just a LCD TV with better backlighting. The megadrive will look great with a RGB scart cable, with anything else it will look like ****e.

You can get a thing called an 'SLG3000' which generates scanlines for you. It's not as fancy as the frameister or XRGB but will still look miles better than without and comes in about €50.

Arcade forge had a scart to scart model, so you could just plug the Megadrive scart cable into it and then plug it into the TV.

I was going to say to make sure your tellys SCART socket is RGB as well, nothing more disappointing than getting the cable and finding the socket doesn't support it!

I checked your tv specs though, and it has a single SCART which is full RGB.

So many TVs only have one RGB input like that. Whenever I hear people say 'I bought an RGB cable and it looks the same as composite' I'm fairly sure they just have it in the wrong scart socket :D

Watch out for another €30 Sony PVM!
    Awesome looking games on there!

I think even with full rgb scarts, unless you have some kind of external scaler & scanline generator, the results still look dreadful on flat panel tv's

That's my plan, would love to get my hands on a PVM. The little telly I have for my SNES is terrible!

Stuff looks sooo good on mine.
I wasn't going to use anything aside from 8/16 bit systems but, after trying the GC via RGB, I was converted!

best option is to get a wii with component cables. run USA cube games and hold down the B button when you start them to get the special 480p quality mode. They look amazing on a HD TV like this.

Pal snes rgb scart on the gamecube always gave me a great picture on a hd tv

I have problems with SNES RGB cables. The picture is too bright on the GC. SNES and GC RGB cables are different and not compatible, the SNES one has an extra resistor. A snes cable on a GC gives a very saturated bright picture. A GC cable on the SNES makes the picture fade to black after 5 seconds and you can't see anything.

A SFC cable will work on a PAL GC, it should solve your problems. Try it out, a US Snes cable should be the same. You of all people must have one of them lying around.

Never had those problems with brightness, not saying you're wrong. Maybe mines a magic cable :)

Just hooked my GC up to my HDTV there with RGB Scart cable. Looks pretty good. Problem is the massive input lag ? Anything I can do about that ?

Don't think so. It's a pretty old Sony Bravia http://www.sony.ie/support/en/product/kdl-40v3000

All you can do is try and turn off the TV post processing with something like a game mode. Try to see if there's any weird settings turned on that affect the picture.

Played around with it and doesn't seem to be anything that improves it.

Wii doesn't lag and can play gamecube BUT I really would have liked to use the Game Boy Player on it.

Letterbomb the Wii and install Visual Boy Advance, problem solved.

Don't do this. Visual Boy Advance on the Wii is god awful. Choppy framerates and terrible inaccurate music ahoy!

I'm sorry if you don't approve, you're entitled to your opinion. Just don't go running other people into the ground. I offered a way of emulating gba games on the Wii as the op had issues with the Gamecube display, I never said it was perfect, most emulation never is. If you have any suggestions yourself I'm all ears.

It's not that it's not close to perfect, visual boy advance is really awful on wii. I tried it with a few games. It can't maintain a steady frame rate and the music is crackly and keeps breaking up. It's a lousy experience.

I'm sure you're right about the experience with vba. I don't know why and I was talking to Myrddin before about the rgb from the gamecube on flat panel tv's, to me the s-video on a ntsc consoles seems better as I find as you said there can be moments of drop outs and the screen goes blank with rgb on pal consoles. The best display I can get for gamecube through the Wii if using rgb cables, there never seems to be any problems.

you should try it with the wii component cable + diosmios or nintendont + "force progressive video (480p) and widescreen" options. The RGB cable is good but technically it will only give you a max resolution of 480i and the 480p improvement in using the component cable is astonishing.

People spent a small fortune on those game cube component cables for a reason. But you can get the same amazing visuals from a wii for a fraction of the price using the above method. gamecube is actually better on a wii as you can force 480p progressive video mode on all games, plus the widescreen force is unique to the wii too.

definitely worth the €5 investment http://www.amazon.co.uk/Unknowm-6900214001630-WII-COMPONENT-CABLE/dp/B000NUR582/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1411299091&sr=8-1&keywords=wii+component

I'd +1 diosmios. Super when it's all setup with USB Loader. I've Wii, Gamecube, VC & Wiiware all ready to launch at the press of a button (yes they're all bought no piracy here :o)

Never knew about diosmios and I've a component cable Wii. Nice one.

Have a look into the emulated nand features too of the more recent USB Loader, & say goodbye to the paltry internal nand of the Wii. It dumps your Wii's nand to hdd or sd, & can install content to it that way. Compatibility isn't 100%, but it's very high. Anything that doesn't run on emulated nand can be installed to normal nand, & everything both normal & emulated is browsable from within the loader gui too so it's nice & complete.
