The only slavery involved is among the poor bastards that make the things.

What's worse is the fact that people get so worked up over these completely trivial things. Seeing people argue over android vs apple vs windows phone when they all get used for the same purpose anyway.

I had a 6210 for years! What a phone, used to last about a week no bother.

Lol i dont get why android users are always up in arms when apple unveils a new model.

Im an apple user and couldnt give a fu*k when another company announces one of their new products, just dont get it.

I was android once before, i dont know any apple users who are smug, but somehow i know a few android users who are insecure for some reason about applea products.

I actually screwed the name up there, I meant 6210. Yeah what an amazing phone for it's time. Wasn't it one of the first phones with Bluetooth? With the little name plate too :)
I hate not getting a full day out of my Nexus 5.
I really hope some day we get phones with that sort of standby time.

Pretty sure some people are just sick of the engineered publicity that surrounds any Apple release.

I had an iPhone 3GS and thought it was great but when I moved to android I realised that I'd never go back. That being said, if someone wants to use Apple, fire away, what do I care :)

I want a new gadget that has up to date tech and is not restrictive, the iphone 4 is borderline useless, my gf has one and i was trying to message on her line IM app, christ the screen is about the size of a gobstopper and the whole apple os is full of restrictions. Plus the apple tech is, well ancient on the face of things, NFC, 5" screens. wow.. welcome to 2012 indeed.¬)

Marketing definitely thought up by a man.

Called the iPhone 6 Plus, but it's only 5.5 inches?

Fair enough about the rest of it but I've yet to see something that I'd legitimately want NFC for.

If my phone rings and texts then that's all I need. Internet is a bonus. Everything else is gimmicky. It's sad seeing people shovel money into the pockets of Apple, especially when they release new versions with only slight changes but for top price

I got a new phone about 2 or 3 weeks ago. My last one (which was my second ever phone) lasted over 5 years, and a charge would last a week. My new one is some sort of Nokia with which I can make phone calls, send texts, access the internet if I want, and it evens tells the time! A charge seems to last about 6 days so that'll do me.

There is truth to that - sometimes complaining about Apple fans in and of itself is its own bandwagon, but it's not entirely unwarranted. This is an iPhone, like the last iPhone, and just look at the hype.

Do you really think it's that different to the newest iPhone? It's certainly not borderline useless anyway - that's just a bizarre thing to say. And you'd swear 2012 was 20 years ago!
I have an iPhone 3 which I got in 2011 - upgraded to iOS 7 recently. I really cannot see how it's different in any significant way to the later models.

The "need" for up-to-date tech (which keeps changing every five minutes) isn't actually real.

Pretty amazing, seeing as iOS 7 won't run on an iPhone 3....

What says what about iPhone users?

If you mean me: I am one person, not "iPhone users". :)

I am not particularly knowledgeable about technology; I got the iPhone from work.

What? That they like a different phone to you?

At the moment you're just coming across as a rather pathetic android fan boy. Why do you care what phone people choose?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,698 ✭✭✭Hachiko

iphone users, well..are not as well versed in modding, rooting, apps, and stuff as other smart phone users. most iphone users would struggle to tell you what o/s they were running.

You're not doing yourself any favours here.

For starters, fanboys of any type annoy the absolute crap out of me. They seem to think that their favourite product should be the only one in existence and that those who don't use it should be ridiculed. Well here's one thing for you...

In the mid 2000s, Internet Explorer was almost the only game in town. Microsoft decided not to update it anymore because they didn't have any real competition. It took the release (and popularity) of Firefox before they decided to get up off their asses and release IE7.

So if you got your wish, and Android was the only mobile OS, I can assure you that Google would do the very same. Monopolies always do.

I don't want to get involved in any of that. I have a full time job in configuring computers, the last thing I want to do is screw around with my phone when I get home.

Maybe they just want a product that is designed to work right out of the box, instead of one that needs bloat ware removing, rooting, modding etc?

Non Apple phones also work right out of the box. And people also 'root'/jailbreak iphones for the same reasons as Android.

Seeing as you don't know most of them, that's just a silly assertion. ;)

iPhone users are, by the law of averages, no better or worse at technology than Android users are.
I may be clueless about technology but I'm not most Apple users.

I also don't really get the fanboyism when it comes to consumer electronics. I mean, queueing up for hours to get the latest gadget? It's really quite pathetic in all honesty. And I say that in relation to all brands, but there really is almost a religious zeal when it comes to Apple and it's 'followers'.

I speak as someone who has used the same Macbook for the last 6 years, and who owned an iPod before that too. But I currently have an android phone, which I usually only replace every 4 or so years. And my mac will likely be replaced with a windows machine soon enough.

The real utter total geek weirdos are the - always Android users - who post and start threads on other people's choices.

And no it doesn't with the other way.

androids work right out of the box also but you can make them much better with custom roms (for gratis), not than apple users would know anything about it.

People queue for everything. Don't make me post pictures of the people who queued for Windows 95. It's not a pretty picture. And the Xbox. And no doubt most Android phones.

People queued for the zune. For christs sake.

I like most iPhone users I know won't queue. In fact I have a 3 year old phone. I may not upgrade. The 4S is fine and I don't like big screens.

Strange that the phone geeks who post threads about other people's choices and are clearly subject to marketing - Samsung alone spends more than Apple - and, who in real life bore the world to tears with their DPI specs whilst salivating over their fifth phone in 4 years call those of us with 3 year old phones fanatics.

I see it all the other way.

Is it as sad as starting a thread on a forum about other people's choices of phone?

which is a lot worse for apple users who would struggle to integrate with anything but something written by apple (and pay for it mostly), and fwiw my galaxy s4 works right out of the box and i have used nothing but OTA updates.

It's both sides, look sites the verge and others. Bloody annoying is what it is, I personally use both iOS and Android with a preference for the latter.

Apples talent is not only in its ability to make very good products, but also that it has probably the best marketing team since the Vatican came into existence. No matter if they have genuinely made something truly innovative such as the iPhone and iPad, or something which they claim as innovative like the 5, 6/6 Plus or the Apple Watch the tech world will look on it as a miracle, because of that marketing talent.

At different stages in the past few years I have owned and used all of the major phone OS's. Android, IOS, windows, symbian, blackberry etc etc and by far my favorite is android but saying that I am as far from a fanboy as can be. My philosophy is to each their own and that's the end of it.

What I hate though is the arrogance of the fanboys out there and in my social group at least it seems to come out more in the IOS users than anything else. They forever let me know that IOS is better than android and I am using an inferior phone and etcetera etcetera. Don't get me wrong I have had the same from certain android users as well over the years but I have come across it way more with the apple users.

Have to admit I despise the apple keynotes when they pretend they have invented the wheel when the technology they are showing off has been available on the market for years already.

Despite being an iOS user I completely agree with you. Sometimes the simple things annoy me in iOS, such as the alert tone only applying to text messages. Apps such as WhatsApp and Tinder are stuck to the default Apple alert tones and you can't use your own.

I'd love to give Windows Phone a try for my next device but the lack of apps will probably hold me back.
