Anyone got advice on starting beekeeping in wicklow, relatively new to the subject. Thanks.

Check out your local Association, they may have beginners classes over the winter. you will also get to meet people that are close by in case you need help going forward.

It might sound a little like an off the cuff, rehearsed answer... because it is. :-)

There really is no better way to get into beekeeping than to do a beginners course. Not just for the content of the course. You'll also get a bit of hands on experience before you actually end up with bees of your own and most importantly, for the contacts you will make and that you will almost certainly want to call upon at some stage in your first couple of years.

Going it alone can only be a painful process in comparison.

I agree joining a local beekeeping club is extremely helpful, & the Haynes Beekeeping manual is the best first book to purchase. I found it covered all aspects of beekeeping in detail & superb graphics.

Ditto to the course. I only started myself in 2012 but 1 thing I learned is if you want to get your equipment wait for the Winter sales you may not get everything you want but it is certainly going to save you some money. The most important question to ask youself is what type of beekeeping you want to do. I have started with a "Rose Hive" (also know as OSB one size box), but I am considering top bar beekeeping next year.

Have a look on youtube as it shows various types of bee management and beehive types.
