do farmers start with negative attitudes or does farming give to you.the amount of pure negative tripe that goes on here is frightening and I could see how it would feed into to some of the mental problems that exist the country.ifa are assholes, ifj are assholes, coops are assholes, teagsc are assholes, neighbours are assholes, larry goodman is an asshole, ff/fg/enda/simon are assholes.

Sorry KG can only thank once.
The number of posters that are to be ignored grows weekly here. Do you not think that people we meet in life are the same? The difference is we chose to ignore them and just pass ourselves in a day to day basis. We should open a solutions thread

To be honest I think its more than the Irish farmers that at fault of being negative. I think negativity is ingrained in irish society in recent years. Moved home to Ireland in june and was completely shocked by the negativity and bitterness of some people.

I think it's the upbringing in a way as anytime you chat to the auld timers around here its always something. Bad prices. Too much or little sun or rain. And everyone seems to be too concerned with what others are at compared to what's going on within their own gates.

    Life's too bloody short.

It's not negativity, more begrudgery, we don't like to see people that do a job well, doing well.
A story about an American walking along the beach, meets paddy who's pulling in crabs and putting them in a bucket.
    Conversation went something like this
Amer: shouldn't you put a lid on the bucket, will they not get out.
Paddy: don't need a lid, they're Irish crabs.
amer: what do you mean, Irish crabs.
Paddy: well if any of them goes about get out, the rest just pull him back down

Well done Keep Going and well said. The attitude on here is disgraceful. People need to stop looking out over the ditch to see who they can find to blame for their problems. Begrudging Finger pointing Ireland is well and truly alive and kicking here. People need to get off their ar*ses and get a life.

I think the reality of running a marginal enterprise for years has recently hit home to lads and many are lashing out at the "powers that be".

On the threads as in real life I think there might be a few lads that like to wind up the whole debate, throw in a grenade and sit back and watch the fallout..

It gets tedious reading after a while.. I've no bother making my point and posting on these doomsday threads but when they drag on page after page I tune out of them.

The country is full of begrudgers the hate to see anyone be anyway successful in life , because it only reminds them even more what sad, bitter and twisted whinging shower of gob****es they really are.they have opinions on everything yet when a solution is looked for they haven't a clue cause the only opinions they have is the one they got from someone else because they haven't the brain or wherewithal to get up off their holes and make something of themselves to busy watching what the lad down the road is doing and whinging about it.The green eyed monster is alive and well.

It's not as bad. Mostly moaning about the hard work and long hours.

The Irish small talk about the weather, where the French talk about prices.... and holidays.

Are people negative or realists, it's nice to be positive but there's no point building up your hopes.
Health is everything, and it's hard to be really negative when your not sick.
Is this post all a contradiction or what:confused:

In Ireland we're too embarrassed to admit it when we go on holidays. How many times have u heard "so u we're away for a few days? Yeah, I had too, herself was giving out so I had to keep her happy, I'd've been a lot happier at home". !!!

Negativity being an irish thing is a crook of sh1t.

    http://www.skepdic.com/negativitybias.html

    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negativity_bias

Negativity bias is the psychological phenomenon by which humans have a greater recall of unpleasant memories compared with positive memories. People are seen to be much more biased to the avoidance of negative experiences. They seem to behave in ways that will help them avoid these events. With this, humans are much more likely to recall and be influenced by the negative experiences of the past.

Is farmers saying they havent two sticks to rub together an irish thing is a better question. Thats what goes on here and it feeds into everything else.

Ear to the ground does be priceless when the farmer gets asked does he make money.

Jaysus christ, some would near rather give away their first born than admit thry're making a good living out of it, while the mice are ating the euros under the mattress.

Christ the forum has a fooking grammar nazi in it 2day whinging about the spelling of spuds, the sun is shining i suppose, have to complain about something.

    Gone seriously down hill.

Must admit I woke early this morning and flicked on the "beef crisis"thread, without a doubt there are problems there at the moment but whats going on in that thread is pointless.a small one for ye, watch in the day how many times you "should" instead of "will".people say should when they wont or cant do something but say will when they think they can do something

    Sorry Reg, couldn't disagree more.

The old timers I know / knew :( were very upbeat. They could see when prices, weather, etc were bad, but they always saw the positive. They had seen bad times before, and always pointed out that things will change, get better, not to dwell on bad or negative things...

I would have said older people always looked on the bright side... (actually, aside from one old woman I know, but I don't call to her much any more)

On the thread overall - I know both very positive and very negative farmers. In the 'real world' I think there is a mix of both...
On boards, the negative be far seems to outweigh the positive...

Weather has a lot to do with positivity, farming is easier, sun perks you up.
even though I planned to wind down, I'm increasing sheep nos, buying extra lambing pens
really enjoyed this year with the sheep.
Have had 5 people looking at my sheep tunnel since it was in the comic,
huge increase in the interest in sheep
winning sheep farmer of the year didn't do any harm either
auctioneer used it to sell my rams yesterday in Delvin....good crack

As mentioned before begrudgery is a very strong trait in irish people. Personally I genuinely never begrudge anyone anything especially if they worked for it and even if they got something handy I don't care! The older I get if that even within the family circle jealousy is such a dose and is sad really, narrow minded people

I don't know! Two neighbours there are very critical of two big farmers near by. Saying there milking runts of cows, farts of cows or rats of cows. That's there starving there's cows and ANYTHING they do is wrong. Bigger parlour ohhh too much time wasting washing all the units etc. so you get the picture

It's makes no difference to me what my neighbour is doing but both these 'with runts of cows' have bought land in the last few years. Loving winding up the neighbours saying is the new machine you man has a good knowing full well he will rip them to pieces! Always makes me smile! You don't have that kinda attitude in Aus!!
