Romo will bounce back this week, Witten/Brant and Murray will be tough to handle, but the Titans offense will have too much for the Cowboys defense.
Titans to go 2-0 and start their march towards the play offs

Oh good God, I've just watch Fox Sports interview some Ravens fans with Ray Rice jerseys on.

I know it's Fox but some of the answers...

    It ranged from:

"He should be allowed to defend himself" (couldn't be more Fox really!) to "there's others in the league that have done worse and they're still playing".

9 away wins in one week seems pretty unlikely but it's just how I see it. Detroit and Carolina seems tough to call right now, and the Texans and Oakland too. Sadly the easiest prediction of the week seems to be the Bears to lose. Would be delighted to have that wrong but we might as well have no linebackers as have the ones there right now, if last week is any measure. I'm predicting a total and utter trimming. Hopefully the league's propensity to produce shocks will have its say.

Detroit and Carolina seems tough to call right now,

Just think of it this way: who would win in a fight, Donkey Kong or Superman.

That said, I don't think Panthers fans would like their stadium to become known as the Fortress of Solitude. :o

    I can't pick a winner tonight.
I can justify both teams winning and losing.

Just done a quick scan through the predictions it's 8-8 too.

I've steelers picked with my head but bet Balintore based on this tweet from earlier and I think the ray ray issue will piss em off to prove a point

@espnstatsinfo: The Ravens are undefeated at home on Thursdays (3-0) under John Harbaugh. The Steelers have lost 3 straight Thursday road games. #PITvsBAL

"Possibly the darkest week in the history of the league" according to one of the commentators.

It's been a horrible, clusterf*** embarrassment of a week for them on a number of front alright. But please, spare that nonsense when things like Aaron Hernandez and even Rae Carruth and fresh in the memory.

The Pats won widespread acclaim from across the league & media, for how they dealt with Hernandez situation. It should have been the ideal PR template to follow. But the Ravens and the NFL ballsed up the Rice situation from day 1.

Turnovers are the 2nd most statistic in football.

2 turnovers by Steelers, 2 TDs down.

The hyperbole and fake outrage is ridiculous...nobody at this point even cares that Janay Rice was punched in the face.

Big Ben gets the fap treatment a lot from NFL Media but he was just horrible last night. Very soft calls against the Steelers from Hochuli and his crew last night the Ravens still whooped their butts without even being at their best themselves.

In terms of actions yeah they were exemplary and hundreds of players eligible for the draft grew up in areas surrounded by gangs, of which some were a part. Some players have even said the local gangs held them get a leg up before their talent/potential was wider recognised by colleges (or high schools with better facilities)... But that wasn't the case for Hernandez. It's not at all on the Pats that they couldn't tell which side of the fence he was on coming out of college.

Nothing at all to do with the Patriots or Panthers for Carruth, but they basically said that the video coming to light this week (when we all knew pretty much exactly what happened beforehand anyway) was the equivalent to it coming to light that Hernandez had been involved in many murders, or that Carruth had (and watched) a woman murdered who was 8 months pregnant with his child.

I think saying the Ravens "whooped" the Steelers is an exaggeration. They pulled away in the last 20 minutes or so, but we're clinging on at times and those penalties that went in their favour were a huge benefit. Punting with less than 10 minutes left and a 17 point deficit was also a terrible decision by Tomlin.

Especially on the back of the Ray Rice affair, I thought the game seemed to lack some of the usual intensity when these two play, though. Could have been due to it being so early in the season, but at times the atmosphere was just kind of dead.

Also decided to get NFL Game pass and it's pretty good alright (though it's not cheap!), but again it reminded me just how remarkably stupid American coverage of their own sport can be, at least some of the mainstream stuff.

Most of the half time discussion was literally just Deion Sanders shouting "woo boy, dats my Ravens don't go sleeping on Joe Flacco, Joe knows Baby! Whoo Ravens!" while Bill Cowher was sat next to him shouting "steelers buddy, d line baby! 3 and out here we come! Yeah! Woo! Steelers"

    Just remarkably brain dead stuff.

Sure that's half the craic with it...makes us Irish feel normal..although it's hard after to watch George Hamilton give commentary on a 0-0 Rep of Ireland match after...

It's not the commentary on talking about though, most NFL commentary teams are pretty solid. It's just odd that the pre/post/in game analysis from the likes of Mike Carlson on channel 4 and Jeff Reinebold on Sky a solution wipe the floor with most of what the American channels themselves show.

It's probably more to do with the doctor that a lot more people who own home in there do do casually, while here most viewers are more dedicated (sure we're up until 5am some mornings to watch it), but it's just remarkable how childishly they cover the sport. Rod Woodson comes over like that quite often in American programming too, but he was on the BBC for the Superbowl a few years back and was brilliant at breaking things down, so I guess that backs it up a fair bit also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,404 ✭✭✭spiritcrusher

Sky's analysis can vary a bit depending on who they have. For example if Cecil is th-BOOM!! HE JUST GOT HIT! AAWW BABY!
"What have they got to do in the second half to get back in the game Cecil?"
"Well lemme tell you that D needs to STEP UP and then they need to stop throwing interceptions and make some plays on offence"
    No shit Cecil.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,495 ✭✭✭✭Billy86

It is painful how much he plays it up (he's quite good at talking about fullback play though I guess). I also really miss Nick Halling, thought he was always quite underrated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,369 ✭✭✭UnitedIrishman

Meant to ask, maybe it was just stream I was watching, but how come the Sky commentary lads weren't on last night? I had a Sky Sports 2 stream and it was the American coverage for the night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,546 ✭✭✭Masked Man

Probably just easier and/or cheaper to get the CBS coverage, looks like it'll be that way for the rest of the season.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,495 ✭✭✭✭Billy86

I doubt they get many tuning in at 1.30am on a Thursday night to be honest, so no point paying any of their guys to come in and cover it. I think Europsport do the same for the Monday games. Channel 4 probably get away with having analysts in because it's a very minimalist approach they take and there is likely a spill over of people who are up later from sleeping in a bit on Sunday, and want to get some more before going to sleep in having been watching the games from 6 on (and likely having a few beverages during them).
