    Hi
    I am a 20 year old male and I don't drink

I have just started back at college.
I don't know anyone there but I find it difficult to make friends as all the social setting seems to involve drinking and usually heavy drinking at that.

Also I find it is difficult to meet women as most guys meet women in nightclubs and pubs where drink is also heavily involved.
Just to be clear I have no problem with people drinking but I just find when it become binge drinking I find it kind of uncomfortable in their company.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

Are you a dunker or a dipper?
It may be a contributing factor.

Just drink a soft-drink OP. But DO NOT drink water in a pub if you're out with your mates.

Serious answer, try some of the clubs and socs in college. Good way to socialise with people without the need for alcohol.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

I suppose you could try joining clubs/societies/sports and that sort of thing to meet people

Have a look at joining a society that might interest you. There's a good chance that not all of their social gatherings would be heavily based on drinking, and you'll meet people who share your interests.

There are national tea days organised by official bodies.
Have a look around the associations online.
You might hook yourself a nice lass.

    Or a nice mammy.

    Two tea bags please.

They're all over asking David Grey questions with a vague connection to music/Being David Grey. And pleck drums. Whatever they are.

I'm genuinely not sure whether this is a thread about tea or alcohol. I don't drink much of either OP, but I can't help you on the tea front. On the alcohol: join clubs, societies, etc. When you meet up with people, doing during the day time for a specified purpose, e.g. go bowling or whatever it is the hip young people do. You don't need to abstain from clubs either, unless you're a recovering alcoholic, but you'll want to find ones that are more socialising and dance orientated than just a place to get drunk.

Otherwise, I'd advise biscuits or a nice slice of apple tart.

For the record this thread has nothing to do with tea.

Shouldn't this be Tee-totallers? People who keep the score at golf matches? Have you tried a golf course OP?

No no no. It's for people who only wear tee-shirts.

In a poll of 1000 people, three said "In the Pub". There's always a few, eh.

Believe it or not, I love tea but I am currently off it because I have found out I have an allergy to it.

It's true, it doesn't mean that I come out in a rash or my throat closes up, it just means that it affects my degestive system and liver.

    Almost less than half that.

He died so you could live. Sounds like a fair swap. He was a crap poster anyway. Always in the soccer forum, banging on about Man U. I prefer your style by miles.

I don't drink alcohol either. I'm in third year of college and I will admit it can be hard. It's unreal how much college is focused on drinking. Although I do go on nights out I find by about 12 or even earlier no one can any longer hold a conversation as there so drunk. I personally have nothing against people drinking alcohol. But I do enjoy going out more at weekends with friends from secondary school and home as although they drink it's not too the same extent and you can have some without them all been sh!tfaced. I suppose it's always just going to be one of them things about college.

The one thing that I find annoying is everyday you walk into college there has to be this huge conversation among the class group about who was out the night before how drunk they got. Everyone then thinks it's hilarious when someone drunk said something inappropriate. Then it's almost a failure of a night if someone didn't get sick on themselves. Theres social drinking and then there's what goes on in college at the other end of the scale really.

The non-drinkers drive home after a night out :P

Find a pub that serves non-alcoholic drink, buy it, destroy the label, and drink the non-alcoholic beverage. Drink non-alcoholic Koppaberg myself, and usually have 10 bottles of the stuff in the boot of my car if I have to drive home that night (work at 7am in the morning, etc), as otherwise I'll bring the alcoholic stuff.

Have gone to plenty of gigs, had a good time, and driven home afterwards.

I have visions of you struggling into the Point with ten bottles of de-caff jammed down the front of your trousers. And whipping them out at intervals, popping off the caps with your teeth.

When I started college I had the problem of wanting to drink and not being old enough to drink, at least you have the choice!

Yes we are :D we can drive home after a night out and don't suffer with a hangover the next day. Terribly suspicious ;):D

I'd class myself as a non-drinker, yet have a few when I'm out, but I am never close to being drunk. For a time, I'd have minerals, rather than alcohol, but would be egged on by others in the group, or even pestered as to why I wouldn't have a "proper" drink. Others couldn't make head nor tail as to why I didn't want to drink. But, somewhere along the way, I decided to have the bit of alcohol. Nights out can be great, but for me, things kind of go downhill a little as the night wears on, and many are drunk to the point where they talk jibberish, act up, or the odd time, can't stand up or end up being sick.

I know of some, who would be out every night of the week and get drunk each of those nights, complain the next day on Facebook about being hungover, they need a break from drinking, and a few hours later, are psyched up for yet another "session." No night for them is complete without getting wasted and then boasting about it the next day. It makes no sense. As a non-drinker, who, admittedly, isn't out every weekend, I have saved a good bit of dosh, so I don't need to worry or announce that I am skint after a weekend of drinking, as I have read many times on Facebook, or have heard about here and there.

You can go out, have the odd beer (or whatever alcoholic beverage you have), and stay sober for the rest of the night and be able to wake up the next day feeling fresh and being able to remember clearly what a good night it was instead of feeling sick with a thumping headache and complaining for having got yourself into a poor state from a few bevvies, maybe realising you lost your phone, wallet, or whatever, and not being able to remember where you left it/dropped it. And, if you're plastered on a night out, God knows what could happen to you, and good luck trying to remember details the next day, if God forbid, you got robbed, assaulted, etc. while in a drunken state.

If you gargle in monosyllabic tones over the course of a night, you should rarely have problems the following day.

    Don't mix it.
