Pointer range.

    Lad quick one for ye. What do ya that have pointers think is a good range for them to work at. I have both German and English i feel they are working at the right range the germans are out to 100 150 yards and the english 150 to 250. What do ye think. ?

    I think that's too far. I like a dog to work "under the gun" as within a shot and a half from me at the most and drifting wide.

    A good English pointer on open ground should working out to 200 250 yards if not more that's the way I like them anyway.

    for me as far as you let them.but everyone is different.on open ground like big open bogs id let them pull on up to 300 yards.rushy fields 80 to 100.nothing like letting a dog out 200 yards and getting a point then shot.but the ranges you give us are about right.remember pointing dogs are ment to pull on and cover lots ground fast.as for under the gun thats what a flushing dog is for in my opinion.

    That's true if you want a dog for under the gun get a springer.

    for me that to near i like to watch the pointer out from me.And nothing like see them point at range and hold.
