You will do better than you think, especially if you put some work in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,226 ✭✭✭Liordi

Jumping the gun a little? :D
I think waiting 3 months to get results is a little much and I kinda stopped caring about it mid-July.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 27,316 CMod ✭✭✭✭spurious

The wait is because although all the JC stuff is corrected since the end of July, all the workers in the SEC are put to work dealing with the LC results first, so the work on the JC results would only have started mid-August.

With 54 exam papers (not counting those with two papers in them) and tens of thousands of candidates, I don't think they do too badly. In fact the JC results are out earlier now than they used to be.

The thought of getting JC results back will subconsciously haunt me until Wednesday.

i have a bad feeling about my results. Im not too nervous about myself but more worried about what my parents and teachers will think. the pressure and expectation is unreal. One of my teachers even came up to me with a strict face and said 'I highly expect you to get an A' in a subject where im positive i didnt get an A in the jc. oh god :o

I had a dream last night where I got a D in half of my subjects and a fail in the other half, it took me a few minutes after I woke up to realise it wasn't real

Haha same here but I had a dream that I got all As and I was put on rte news for best result of the year...ino ino my dreams are weird :D

Do your teachers find out your results before you do? Because I'm trying to avoid them for the tike being hahahaha

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 27,316 CMod ✭✭✭✭spurious

Usually for JC most teachers are in class while the results are being checked and put in envelopes. There is a master sheet of results which they might see at small break but there are just exam numbers on that. Don't worry you will be fine.

I had a dream I got a D in English and I started hysterically crying in school :pac:

I'm excited for results, like I'm curious more than anything

I'm not sure how it is in other schools, but I know the teachers are allowed to view our results on the school computer system before we see them.

I suppose in schools where they give them out late there is time for someone to input them and for staff to see them, but in schools where they are given out at small break or before lunch there wouldn't really be time for that.

Had a dream about a week ago regarding JC. The day we get the results was snowing (inorite) so nobody could get into school. So instead we received our JC results via post, except there was a massive mix-up and I ended up getting my friend's results sheet by mistake. Only can remember that the first grade on the sheet was an A in German.

The friend in question doesn't even do German.

    As I said, subconsciously demented

I know there isn't a set time for giving out the results but would most schools do it before break? I'm not going to be able to concentrate in any of my classes beforehand so I hope there aren't many

Super excited for Wednesday...don't know if its for my results or the fact we miss french!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 148 ✭✭S_Hick12

I'm kinda nervous about wednesday, I'll miss most of pe though (thank god, its torture this year). We get them at about 12, I'm praying I got a B in history just so I can rub it in my teacher's face :P
Do people usually tell teachers their results or do they hunt you down? If I've done badly in a subject, I'll be avoiding that teacher all year lol.

In my school we get ours from 9 onwards...haha well im hoping for a B in English so I can shock my teacher who expected less from me. Usually teachers get to see the results before they are handed out. Some Students last year told the teachers there results but im just going to try and avoid them as much as possible...:D

Rubbing results in someone's face, whether a teacher or a classmate is a bit childish - might be an opportunity to be the bigger man or woman.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 311 ✭✭Msrebeckyxo

We get ours at 3.30 as well which is so ridiculous as I wont be able to concentrate all day:( I miss double Chemistry though so that's grand!!:D I'm praying ive done okay in English, our English teacher was so bad, due to all the complaints about her she got forced into retirement...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 119 ✭✭pizzamad

All I want is an A in maths, irish and history!Really wanna do well in history because my history teacher helped me a lot!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,858 ✭✭✭Manutd_4life

what are people's expectations for their results. Something tells me my expectations are too high but then again I think thats just the expectation of my parents.

My expectations are so low cause I don't wanna be left disappointed or disappoint my parents, I'm just hoping to get an honour in everything and to get a pass in the subjects that I'm.not too good at, I would love an A in maths but I think at the most ill get a B

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 253 ✭✭Eims14

We get our results at 10.Havent really thought about getting the results,it still doesnt seem like its happening.Im sure itll hit me soon enough and ill be a nervous wreck :P Lowering my expectations as much as possible. So long as i get a's and b's in the majority ill be happy(I hope)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 148 ✭✭S_Hick12

My expectations have been lowered to all Bs and Cs. Even though I know I probably did better, I just can't let myself think I've gotten any As because I'll be really dissapointed if I expect some and don't get any.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 27,316 CMod ✭✭✭✭spurious

If you have answered the correct number of questions (and the correct choices within questions) it's quite hard to get less than a C. That's the way the JC is designed. Leaving out questions and parts of questions is where some people fall down.

I'm definitely beginning to get butterflies now. Although I won't experience the sensation of opening that coveted/dreaded envelope as I'm in France. For me, it will be a brief text from someone at home or if that fails, an online viewing late in the day when the results become available on the SEC website.

Yeah, I'm hoping that my lowest result is a C, will have to root out the predictions I posted in that thread a few months ago. :/

Is anyone else not going in Thursday?

I'm hoping for all As and Bs on Wednesday...I am actually so nervous- I wish it was just over with!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 204 ✭✭MissCupcake

I would love all A's and B's but I expect there to be at least one or two C's in there to disappoint me! I pray for a B in English but I would say I'll get a c

If you can't handle the stress and expectations of the junior cert, you're in for a rough leaving cert

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 589 ✭✭✭coolerboy

My dad expects me to get at least 7 As and if I dont achieve that then im in for a "rough ride"....
He said that if I dont get that he regrets spending money on me for school.......like wtf why would you say that :(

Ah come here, everyone is going to be a little bit nervous. I can understand where he is coming from with the high expectations.

Why be nervous over meaningless results? If you get worked up over something or little importance like the junior cert you wouldn't be able to cope when it actually matters in the leaving.

Well, to (most of) us - it's the most important results we'll be getting back before LC.
If you're not nervous; it means you don't care.

And, I doubt there's much people who don't care what results they get.

I'm hoping for As and Bs but like I don't wanna set myself up for disappointment buuuut my mock results were way better than I expected so I hopefully I will do well ??? My parents really aren't bothered only one putting pressure on myself is me :pac:

Don't be so patronising obviously if you work something you'll wanna do well! Even if you didn't work much it's normal to want to do your best in something there's nothing wrong with that

Yeah fair enough but it's done with! Wanting to do well and getting nervous are two completely different things. No point being nervous over getting the results. Doing your exams fair enough, but what are you nervous about now? Getting a papercut opening the envelope? Your papers are corrected, nothing you or anyone else can do now so just chill. Worst case scenario is someone does badly, and even if they do badly it's not a big deal. Nothing to worry about. If it was results that would have a major impact on your life (leaving cert) fair enough, but the junior cert is worth nothing. Wont get you anywhere in life and nobody will care if you did well or not in the future.

It may not be important compared to the Leaving Cert but it's still the most important exam people our age have done so far, so it is very understandable to be nervous about it and hoping you will do well.

Ah but this is gonna determine whether you do higher or ordinary for the leaving cert, so it kind of does matter!

No it doesn't, you cant be forced to do a level. You do what you want to do. I know plenty of lads that failed a subject in the JC, did higher for it in LC and did great

Of course you can take whatever level on the day of the exam. If the school puts you in an OL class however (based on your JC results), it's kind of hard to do the work yourself to get to the standard of HL.

A good guide as to whether someone will do the work is how much the person bothered at JC. JC results show this.

I never understood why some people have to put down JC-ers over their excitement/pride/worry about results. For most people it's the first 'big' life milestone they took alone and they are entitled to be worried/pleased/excited about it.
