Freeview is the UK terrestrial broadcast system. Outside of Northern Ireland, reception on our island is limited.

However, practically all recent LG TVs have a satellite tuner too, & this would work with your Sky dish. Look for a screw type connector on the back of the TV (probably labeled 'LNB in') that mates with the connector on the end of the cable from the dish.

Post the TV model no. too, if you can.

I just did a re-scan, many channels have moved numbers, I noticed CBS Action is now there but has an orange background with text describing what the channel is, rather than a live picture. What's the deal with this is some sort of box needed to get the actual channel?

I don't have any Saorview/Freeview box, the channels just appear when installing channels to the tv.

You won't get Freeview unless you're within range of a UK terrestrial TV transmitter, & you have a suitable aerial: what part of the country are you in?

You can take a connection from your Sky dish & hook it up to the 'LNB-in' connector, mentioned already. This will get you the free-to-air satellite channels, which includes most of what is on Freeview, although just with now-&-next programme info instead of Freeview's 7-day guide.

You might know this already: SETTINGS, followed by the red button, will get you into the customer support menu, where you can find a user guide for the TV. SETTINGS > SETUP > Auto Tuning will get you on the way to carrying out a scan for satellite channels.

It is a placeholder information graphic - the channel is due to launch on Freeview next month.

Such placeholders are common sights when channels are not broadcasting both on Freeview & Saorview - however you need to have a receiver that has MHEG5 multimedia decoding to display them (all official (either Freeview or Saorview) receivers will, on the other hand very few receivers that haven't been given Freeview UK or Saorview approval will show them).

He's talking out his rear end. Freeview is nothing to do with satellite TV, & you certainly won't get it in Tralee, where that 'fela' seems to be based.

Just have an aeriel plugged into the back of the tv, tv is about 5 years old. Gets the standard 5 UK terrestrial channels, E4, Filmfour, ITV2,4, ALjazerra and the RTE's, TV3 etc, in all the TV picks up 111 digital stations radio+tv. There are at least 7 or 8 channels with just placeholders containing text.

That's of no relevance to the OP, unless they're in an area where good reliable Freeview reception is possible. If they can't get Freeview, & the now-&-next programme info from the TV's sat. tuner isn't satisfactory, they can consider getting a Freesat receiver.

Why are sum of the channels blue in that list?

Some of the channel names are blue, as the text is a link to the channel's own Wikipedia page.

The LNB on your dish will need to be a multi output type, with spare output: do you have Sky+ (box can record)? And you only have one Sky box & no other satellite receiver?

CT100 cable is obsolete. It was made by Radex who went out of business around 8 years ago. Any cable described as CT 100 is either very old (unlikely) or fake (most likely).

I have a sky plus box but the dish was in this house before i came (im renting). How wil i knw if i have the right dish? I only have 1 sky box

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 35 Liefelt

If it's a Sky-type dish, & you have 2 cables connected to your Sky+ box & nothing else is connected to the dish, then it will have at least 2 free outputs. (Sky multi-output LNBs are only available with 4 or 8 outputs.)

An inspection of the dish would quickly confirm.

Even though they refer to CT100 cable it's actually Triax TX100 as you'll see in the description. As you know like the Hoover/vacuum cleaner analogy the term CT100 spec (Cable Type 100) is generally used to describe this cable type. The CAI also use the term Cable Type 100.

That's it. Ensure the receiver is powered off when connecting the cable at both ends.

Yes. See the pages below for advice on fitting connectors: the 'satcure' guy seems to have a thing about silicone grease, though I'm not sure how many satellite & aerial installers bother with it. Self-amalgamating tape also gets a mention, & should be used outdoors on the type of connectors that screw onto the cable, even if the Sky quad LNB has a pull-down cover for the connectors.

I have the cable connected at either end nw temporarily . Trying to tune it in , its 72% percent complete and it found no channels yet??

What should i do in settings, ther is select satelite, lnb frequency and transponder. Does anyone know what i should set these to?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 35 Liefelt

I would have hoped that the default settings would have worked, with Ireland or UK as country setting: maybe not.

Anyhow, satellite should be the Astra 2 satellites at 28 degrees east, LNB frequency should be 9750/10600, & you want to scan all transponders on these satellites (as you would expect an auto tune to do). LNB power should be on too, obviously.

Why o why do so many so called professionals wire up coax plugs wrongly?

The braid should go round the claws not bunched up underneath where it will have intermittent contact.
The centre conductor should be soldered not bent which will lead to poor contact in the future.

Here is the correct way to do it:

Got this set up anyway . 630 channels , most of them are blank. any way of deleting them?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 13 Tombs

Most of them are blank? This is a list with only Astra 2 (28 degrees east) channels? You should be able to delete unwanted channels: SETTINGS > SETUP > Programme Edit.

Most receivers give the option to scan free-to-air only, so you don't end up with a load of unviewable Sky subscription channels in your list.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,431 ✭✭✭rottie 11

Ya i figured that out after a while , but there is stil 380 channels and some of them are blank . I tried programe edit but there is no delete option. Also there is the same chanels like 15 times lol

Some channels like C4 and ITV have multiple versions for advertising purposes.

How bad sure. Just wish i could delete some

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 13 Tombs

Very strange if you can't delete unwanted channels. What options come up under "Programme Edit"?

Fav channels, move channel and block/unblock channel. I tried blocking but it asked me for a password

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 13 Tombs

If you can't delete anything from the main list, make a favourites (fav) list of the channels you want.

"Block" is just to restrict access to a channel: a blocked channel can only be accessed by entering a PIN.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,431 ✭✭✭rottie 11

There is 4 fav channel yokes but i can only put 1 in each? Obviously i can put mre but no idea how ha?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 13 Tombs

Did you look at the user manual that's right there installed on your TV?

    Here's what it says, anyway:
    To set favourite programmes

SETTINGS > SETUP > Programme Edit

    1)Select the channel you want

2)Press the FAV button to select Favourite Group & then OK.

You can check your favourite channels by pressing the LIST button on the remote control.
