Hi I'm wondering if anyone can help me. I have a walker combi saorview box and all channels are working fine apart from RTE1 it comes and goes all the time. My husband moved the ariel on the roof and it worked fine for a week and gone again. Any ideas what to do??

try a rescan, if no joy aerial would need to be adjusted properly

Thank you I will send him back up tomorrow have rescaned it 3 times and no joy then it could be ok tomorrow. Cheers

Rescanning is a waste of time until you get the aerial sorted. Sending someone onto the roof is probably a waste of time too (& unnecessary risk), unless they have some idea what to be looking for, fault wise, & what to do beyond randomly moving the aerial around.

    So what do you suggest?

    http://www.saorview.ie/get-saorview/make-the-switch/coverage-map/

Use the Saorview coverage checker to find the recommended transmitter for your location, point the aerial in that general direction and ensure the aerial is polarised (horizontal or vertical) correctly for that transmitter.

Either a competent aerial installer, or arm yourselves with a bit of knowledge. There's no point realigning or repolarising the aerial if there is a damaged cable, malfunctioning amplifier, or something like that.

You need to be able to spot faults. You mighn't even have the right kind of aerial up there.

Just this week I had the same thing with the da's TV.. RTE ONE shaky, the rest are fine... What I found is that when he scans the channels he grabs all the channels except RTE ONE on 738MHZ (Channel 54), but only gets RTE ONE from the Transmitter on 770MHZ (Channel 58)...

I'm just up the road from him and mine is exactly the same..When I clear the channels and do a manual scan on 738MHZ, I find that it I get all the channels bar RTE ONE... If I do an auto scan I get all other channels on 738MHZ and RTE ONE on 770MHZ .. I used to be able to get all my channels on 770MHZ..

In the Kildare area... What the hell is going on?

your mux 1 is 54 and mux 2 is 58.

when rte 1 went Hd aan additional mux was added.

    Its the same for everyboody
I'm in cork my transmitter is spur hill so my rte 1 is 49 and rte 2 is channel 45

Thanks, that's very helpful.. the last time I was tuning the saorview box, there was only one channel used for each transmitter. But from that document I can see that both channel 54 and 58 are being broadcast from Kippure.

What was odd was that when I would look at the signal quality on 738 MHZ and then on 770MHZ, the signal quality was different (which made me think it was two different sites). But I presume this is the difference between the transmitter/multiplexer... whatever you call it..

No, with an aerial correct aligned on your local transmitter the signal strength/quality should be the same. The problem is/was when people got their aerials setup for Saorview initally there was only 1 frequency/mux per transmitter and the aerial was aligned for that 1 signal, but since the second mux was launched last year some of those aerials required readjustment to get the optimum signal for both frequencies.

I'm in north Wicklow and when I called saorview i changed that mux number and it worked for a few hours. So i called them again and they said its the ariel. Am not convinced though as it's only a year old and was brand newwhen we got it, and my husband has moved it slightly and worked for a while and gone again. The transmitter is only 2-3 miles away on the hill and can clearly see it and ariel is directly facing it, with nothing in the way of it.

    Which transmitter?

That close to the transmitter there could be a signal overload problem, too much signal can be as bad as too little. Does the TV has a signal strngth/quality meter of some sort, if so what's the reading? Any sort of distribution amp in the setup?

Could be another problem in your setup, difficult to diagnose over the internet. A professional installer with a proper signal-meter should be able to diagnose the problem.

It doesn't matter if the aerial is brand new or not, if it's not aligned properly then it's not going to work!

My guess tho is poor cable, connections and joins.
Check and re-do every connection from the top down to the bottom.
If there are joins, google how to do them properly.
Same also apply to any connectors used.

Thanks all. I will call someone out, wanted to avoid that, will go through all connections first :)

IMO, the "problem" is/was clueless aerial installers (lot of DIY probably). At the vast majority of locations, if the aerials had been set up properly for mux 1, with decent signal margin rather than bare minimum, there would have been no mux 2 problems at all.
