It has to be one of the funniest tv shows I have ever seen. I only started watching it in January of last year. I was on holidays in the states and got in from a club one night at about 3am and put on the tv in my hotel room and there was this hilarious show. It turned out to be episode 1 of Season 7.
    "Frank's Pretty Woman"

When I got home I started watching it from Season 1 and had all 8 seasons watched in 2 months. Then I had to wait for Season 9.

It is so funny. I love all the characters in it. Danny De Vito is just brilliant in it.

In Charlie gets molested, Mac's indignation at not been molested is priceless, showing up in shorts at the PE teacher's house was hilarious.

Ok, season 2. Here we go.

Is it just me or does Danny Devito add nothing to this show?
That opinion won't last long I assure you :)
    Just you!
The minute he sees the Charlie-mannequin he'll change his mind :D

"How come we never play nightcrawlers no more Frank?"

Danny Devito as Frank is a bit of a slow burner, but it's not long until he becomes irreplaceable.

Jealous of you watching through for the first time, what a show! Such a lovable bunch of utterly despicable human beings :pac:

I don't. It's one of the few shows that still is funny after 9 seasons.

The entrance music fills me with overwhelming nostalgia from when I gorged on the show for a full year

whys it so Christmas-y? Is that an in-joke I missed or something? Its a very weird intro. That and the weak first season plus the 4:3 aspect ratio means anyone I recommend it to usually gives up on it...

This and The League (similar humour to Always Sunny) are my top two Netflix comedy discoveries. Never heard of either of them until Netflix.

    system too :pac:

I thought it was supposed to be one of very few shows that get much, much better after a few seasons?

What was the ratio of this show originally? It doesn't look quite right on Netflix

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,241 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

Just normal 4:3 from bac in the day, I think it goes 16:9 after season 3 but season 6 is the first time you get 720p.

    16:9 is the widescreen look?

Yep, just checked and season 5 is the first widescreen season and season 6 is when it goes widescreen HD 720p for good.

The way the incidental music is so jolly and happy is amazingly juxtaposed with the incredibly grim situations in which the characters always find themselves in.

I heard DeVito interviewed last year and he said there are plans for a movie.

The Nightman Cometh was a classic but I was literally crying when I was laughing at
the first time Charlie sings about the Nightman in the episode where Dennis and Charlie form a band, the lyrics just came out of nowhere:

Nightman, sneaky and mean Spider inside my dreams, I think I love you You make me wanna cry You make me wanna die I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you Nightman

Every night you come into my room and pin me down with your strong arms you pin me down and I try to fight you you come inside me you fill me up and I become the Nightman

It's just two men sharing the night It might seem wrong But it's just right! It's just two men sharing each other It's just two men like loving brothers One on top and one on bottom One inside and one is out One is screaming he's so happy The other's screaming a passionate shout

It's the Nightman The feelings so wrong and right, man They're feeling so wrong and right, man

I can't fight you, man When you come inside me And pin me down with your strong hands And I become The Night The passionly passionate Nightman

    :D

    The
dance scene in the High School Reunion ep
is def one of my favourite sunny moments.

I was laughing enough at what seemed to be happening, but that reveal haha. Was in stitches for ages, kept rewinding and watching again.

I saw a guy wearing a RUN DMC style t-shirt at picnic last weekend, but it was RUM HAM instead. Cue 10 mins of singing Dayman together :pac:
