Is not that far away. Oct 1 is the general kick off in my head anyway, with the Chelt Oct meeting, Charlie Hall Chase etc to look forward to next month. Vautour and Faugheen will be great fun following this season. Interested in seeing does O Faoileans Boy become a gold cup contender next March. Jeski surprised me last year but he was a worthy 2m champion. I normally get to the Nov open meeting but will miss it this year.

So who are you looking forward to the most?

I cant wait for the "proper" racing to start myself. is sprinter sacre finished? will bobs worth come back to his best? was lord windermere a fluke? is faugheen as good as we all think? roll on the n.h.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,775 ✭✭✭✭Slattsy

Yeah cant wait man, Irish racing in a bad state though.

Number of horses in training down on both islands but quality is there still. It will be a cracking season. We will continue to see small fields in graded races in IRL and Uk but other than that, its all good. Roll on the tweed coat, Wolly hat and scarf season :)

The thing i am really looking forward to is Apache Stronghold jumping a fence and finding out how good is Un De Sceaux.

I always thought her surname was Williams.
    What do I know.

Williams didn't have the same ring to it :)

Why it would be foolish not to go chasing it could be a gold cup winner.

Only 6, I think they'll have another crack at the WH myself.

Can't wait for NH to start back but we're in for Mullins musical chairs like never before! Can't see them risking Annie Power over a fence and think they'll take the easy, and boring, route with the Mares Hurdle now a Gr1. Faugheen, Vautour and UDS will clearly be kept apart too and all are very short given their targets won't be known until God knows when. The two Mullins horses who most interest me from a punting point of view at this moment are Un Atout (Russell was on record as saying he had potential of Sir Des Champs before injury) and Pont Alexandre who they were comparing to Denman before his disappointing defeat as fav in Neptune, which in hindsight wasn't bad given what TNO has done since. Both those have a lot to prove after injury but interest me for RSA, particularly PA.

Any news on Sir Des Champs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,775 ✭✭✭✭Slattsy

Lynch lost the Potts' ride. Thought he was useless myself.

Though i know very little about young JJ Burke. Big shout!

He'll be back. Think I read somewhere that they could have pushed to get him back for Punchestown but just let him off for year.

He'll be my GC horse this year, in a very open year.

Yea, hopefully comes back to his best. Impossible to know what will happen though with Mullins maybe having Champagne Fever and Boston Bob for GC. Boston Bob is the one I like.

    Gold Cup = O'Faoilean's Boy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,115 ✭✭✭Backstreet Moyes

Interesting what Mullins is going to do with Un de Sceaux, AP, Faugheen, Vatour and Ponte Alexandre. I wonder which of them will go chasing. Mullins is a genius with hurdlers but who is the last great chaser he had. Think i heard when Cheltenham was on it's been a good few years since he had a chaser win at Cheltenham.

Captain Cee Bee still going strong and runs Sunday week in the Tipperary hurdle.

Love that horse, had him in the Supreme in what seems like a lifetime ago.

Same here, 11/1 i think i got him at,twas a great start to the day!

Rebel Fitz was very impressive down in Listowel. They're not letting Winters bring him across the pond so could be a horse to tackle Mullins favs with.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,681 ✭✭✭BumperD

47 runners total for a seven race card at Sligo tomorrow. Small fields are dominating the industry both sides of the pond. A trend that will continue for a few yrs yet me thinks.

Never seen strength and depth like his, and looks like Willie's well and truly planted the seed regarding AP and the terrible Mares Hurdle. Funny how they've gone from not fearing the big boys with her last season to thinking she'd be 'lapped' now.

    Arkle: Vautour

    Jewson: Clondaw Court

    RSA: Pont Alexandre

    Ryanair: Ballycasey/Djackadam

    Gold Cup: Champagne Fever/Djackadam

    Mares: AP

    Champion: Faugheen

I presume Un De Sceaux Champion and i would like to see Annie Power chasing think she could be a future gold cup winner.

UDS a cert for chasing by looks of it. I'd guess Willie will keep him and Vautour apart - Arkle/Jewson - but as usual, Ruby will probably be the most influential decision maker. AP an absolute cert for Mares IMO. It suits Willie and Ruby as a guaranteed Gr1 winner, eliminates one headache straight away for them and probably even suits Richi now given the wealth of talent he has for other races. I think Annie's odds on never to jump a fence. They all know she's a much safer bet with Willie over hurdles than fences and she'd be 8 if doing so next year. Won't happen, and a big shame.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,115 ✭✭✭Backstreet Moyes

The Gold Cup is the biggest prize in the sport. Annie Power imo looks like his best chance of winning a Gold Cup. I will be annoyed but not surprised if she goes for the mares. At the very worst i would be sending her to the world hurdle. I would send Glens Melody to the Mares only beaten 3/4 a length by Quevea last year.

Any news on Rathvinden i think he looks a very smart prospect. I love the way he travels just needs to work on his jumping.

Looking forward to watching cillians return tomorrow. He could be one for the supreme in March.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,775 ✭✭✭✭Slattsy

You going to chance it AP?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,681 ✭✭✭BumperD

I gave up doing ap about 10 yrs ago as never had much joy.:pac:

I actually just looked up out of curiosity but cannot see prices for supreme?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,775 ✭✭✭✭Slattsy

Won't be too many horses priced this early for that race.
But if you half fancy it back in before it runs and before it wins. Get some value.

I'm miles behind on the national hunt scene at the moment. No study done. I've usually one or the small ap bets placed. I think Faugheen is my new Jezki.

I see Ladbrokes have un de sceaux at only 7\1 for the champion hurdle,do they know something? Best price Annie power 10/1...seriously??? Who would back her for the champion hurdle, not a hope. Ante post betting at its worst

Not even in betting so must be 33's. Interesting to see if he gets listed after tomorrow but I just don't do ap as a rule.

Well cillians return was a bitter disappointment. Had hopes for him this season.maybe they are bringing him along slowly or else he's not up to much. Sound bumper form.

Anyway, Paddy Power Gold cup next month. Oscar whiskey 7\1, Taquin de Seuil simonsig 8\1, Djakadam 10\1, Uxizandre 10\1, wonderful charm, felix younger, balleycasey 12\1. 14\1 bar. The jlt festival race has proved a pointer in the past , hence tarquin and uxizandre prominent in the betting. Worth keeping a eye on the graduation chase over 2m 4f at Carlisle early next month too.

Oct 17 & 18th Showcase at Cheltenham also just around the corner. Only national hunt fans look forward with excitement to the onset of winter :)

might have a nibble on djakadam, I am convinced he would of won at the festival but that blunder. 10/1 looks fair.

Be interested in him too but wouldn't be putting a penny on a Mullins horse in England until I see Ruby sitting on him in parade ring.

Ballycasey for me if he lines up, still dont think he's reached his potential yet, if somewhat slightly disappointing though.

Ryanair horse but Ruby clearly fancied Djackadam over him at Punchestown before he was pulled.

I know for a fact they thought he was their Gold Cup horse 2/3 years ago. Think there's a good one in him.
