    Hi,

Have had a decorative gas fire disconnected from the gas supply (see attached) and have removed the fibreglass "surround" to reveal whats left, again picture attached.

    On the face of it:

    1) is the space big enough?
    2) is it a DIY job to make it ready for an open fire? if so what's actually needed?

Thanks. One of the pictures is of looking back up the flue....

    W.

Your going to have to break out the back of the fire opening and fit a new fireback, backfill it with vermiculite and cement mix and re concrete in the fire bed.
Not completely a DIY job if you call in a fireplace co they would charge you in the region of €150-€220
