    From previous thread:
Youtube vid of Daley Blind highlights

I think Blind will end up being the long-term replacement for Carrick. He's got a great rage of passing and very good on tackles and intercepts, from what I saw in the WC his control and ability to turn on the ball is also impressive. I was delighted to hear we'd moved for him, hopefully his medical went well and there are no problems with his personal terms. I think he could turn out to be our most important acquisition of the window, many people here seem to be writing him off as a utility player. He can be used as one, but only if needed. He is first and foremost a CDM, his ability to play in the back line is a bonus.

With Blind and now hopefully De Jong, I think we'll be fine in midfield until January at least. Then we can reassess and move for Strootman possibly.

Are there any vids of all Blind's touches in a game? I find those to be much more representative of a player's ability than a selection of highlights.

Posted on here a couple of weeks ago criticising Woodward but to be fair we've finally started to move. United obviously need another couple of players, especially a CM. Maybe LVG is waiting on a January bid for Strootman, who knows.

Either way, we now have enough quality, when everybody is fit, to push for fourth. We can't really take too many injuries though, so hopefully the international break will help players get closer to fitness.

The return to the top won't happen straight away, but a massive shove to compete for fourth should be possible.

Like many others I'd probably go back to a 433, but LVG entitled to mould it as he sees fit.......... for now anyway :)

Little piece on Blind here. His agent has reportedly said he will be used as a midfielder mainly at Utd.

I think he could be a very useful DM for us and am excited to see how he does!

Feel for Kagawa never really had a string of games as a number 10 to show his stuff

We could have a midfield of Herrera, blind and Di Maria against QPR.

Shaw and rafeal might also be ready.

    I'm smiling inside.

The thoughts of those 5 supplying Mata, Rooney and RVP gives me goosebumps.

Keep Jones, I've been very impressed with him lately and I think LVG rates him highly. Its his surrounding support* that has been lacking.

    everything gone quiet

blind is it for this window

bit of noise that we've contacted roma over a January move for strootman but nothing concrete on that

    Check out Liverpools formation today. Its a 4 3 1 2.

If they can do that then there is no reason we can't with a midfield 3 of Herrera Blind DiMaria behind Mata behind Rooney RvP.

I hope thats the plan as soon as this international break is over.

    Rafa -- Rojo -- Jones -- Shaw

    Herrera -- Blind

    Mata

    januzaj. Di Maria

    Rooney/RVP

How about a sneaky last minute move for Loic Remy?

I think we should have 24hrs of no United thread posting in honour of beautiful Kagawa.

    WHY GOD, WHY?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,838 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

We areally need to get a commanding CB today/tomorrow - but fook knows who we could get. I can't think of any top CBs around that could be got.

Ron Vlaar is the only one I can think of that we ahve any chance with, but I actually doubt that Villa will be talked into selling him so late in the summer - they wont be able to replace him.

Hummels would be the dream signing, but there I see no chance of getting that done - if it was possible it would have been done by now.

Can't think of anyone else worth going for.

As beautiful as he is, he hasn't done much at United apart from a hat trick against Norwich.

Does anyone expect any more players in? I'm very doubtful. Maybe an outside chance of De Jong and that's it.

Utd have caught me by surprise more than once in this window so hoping against hope they can pull something out of the hat at the 11th hour.

I think we have done just enough business to keep things going till Christmas when I expect more quality signings to be made, especially at CB.

    Shaw.
    Herrera.
    Rojo.
    Di Maria.
    Blind.

All excellent signings, albeit not the world class CB and CM we need (but I'm certain we will sign between now and next year.

Vidals knee was an issue. Strootmans was an issue. Well have a better picture at Christmas.

I still expect another signing between now and the window closing. Maybe even two. We will see.

I've really enjoyed this transfer window. Just let it happen without worrying about all the media reports and whether or not we sign someone on a particular day. At the end of it, I can decide whether it was a success or not.

Sturridge, Sterling and Balotelli are all good dribblers and have pace.

How you think that is the same as Mata, Rooney & RVP is amazing.

£6.4 million the reported fee for Kagawa. If true then that's a stupidly low price for him.

    Kagawa? Pffft.

Hernandez is leaving! Even though he's been a bit crap for a while, the memories....

£2m less than Cleverley is insanity, unless there's secret business to be had in the future with Dortmund !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,026 ✭✭✭✭adox

I know it's because of the positions they play and current injuries but, it's just not right to see the likes of Kagawa and Hernandez moved on while Valencia and Young are still there and indeed getting their game.

Blind looks like he should be in One Direction.

A lot of worries re the United squad with just a day and a bit left.

Goalkeeper - grand, don't need to do anything here imo.

Right back - Rafael I will give time to, should be first choice. Valencia is a rubbish right back - we need back up here, imo.
Left back - Shaw will be first choice - no problem there. Rojo and Blind as backups - no issues here, for me.
Center back - fook knows. Smalling and Jones need to kick on this season, but don't know if they will progress to the top level we need. Evans has been rubbish. Interested to see Rojo but impression is he isn't the commanding CB we need.
Right Wing Back - I think Rafael will do well here, Valencia has proven himself to be a poor backup - if we want to play wing backs, we need an option here.
Left Wing Back - I think Shaw will do well here, but similar to Valencia, Young has proven himself a poor back up. Blind and Rojo might prove more capable here.

defensive minded CM - Blind, Carrick and Fletcher. If Blind is as good as some dutch people are making out, and Carrick remembers how to play football we might be ok here - but we lack a physical pressence, we get bullied too often and Blind won't solve that. I don't think Fletcher will prove to be of any use.
Box-to-box/Shuttling midfielders - Di Maria and Herrera could be top class additions in this role, very excited to see if they do play here, and how they do. Fellaini, Anderson, Cleverley, Fletcher - all rubbish alternatives imo. We could actually do with a player here. had we got Vidal I think he would have been perfect - also allowing Di Maria to be used in a freer wider role.

No.10 role. Mata has previously shown himself to be a world class no.10 imo, and maybe with a bit of pace and intelligence added to the side we'll start to see the best of him again. Rooney is rubbish in this role, Kagawa has been sold (ugh) and I'm not sure Januazaj is the creative type of player for this role; for me he is better running at people, which isnt a priority in this role as we are likely to play it.

Strikers - with Welbeck and Hernandez out, i worry about the front line. No pace in RVP or Rooney, and I do worry about them finding any form again. If the other two are sold, the only striker remaining at United that I would trust is Wilson, and it would be a big ask of him. I actually think Januzaj could do well here, given a free role up front and allowed to roam into space to turn and attack people.

    Needs in the squad:
    Backup right back/right wing back.
    Commanding Centre back.
Central midfielder, with drive, pressence and an ability to stand up for himself.
Potentially a forward needed - and one with pace if we do go for one.

Players simply not up to it imo: Young, Valencia, Fellaini, Anderson.

Obviously I don't believe we are going to solve all those needs, nor sell all the players I don't see as being up to it, but it does show how far off we are.

I do think a CB HAS to be bought in the next 34 hours or so, but I don't think they will be.

For me, a massive issue is we lack leaders and talkers that will organise, encourage and command the side.

I don't think DDG commands his defence well enough, but this is exasperated by none of our CBs being capable of it either, nor are they capable of positioning the midfield, and the midfield doesn't command the attacking players. Rooney is a poor captain, imo, but I don't think we have anyone else that would prove to be much better at it. We lack leaders and talkers. Keane, Ferdinand, Neville, Vidic, Scholes, Giggs, Van Der Sar etc - we've never replaced their leadership, it is a big part of our problem imo.
