Card Games

Which ones did you play and what rules were there?

Switch - 7 skips, Jack Back etc.

25 - a great game of luck and skill that my old man is a master of. He completely destroys us while we are still trying to remember the rules the odd time we play it.

    Bridge - ?????

Old Maid - a pretty sh1t game but still a bit of craic.

There are others that I vaguely remember but can't recall the rules or even the names of the game.

So AH, even tho this is a sh1t thread, it's a small bit of nostalgia.

    Race cards.

Oh you know the days are getting shorter when the cards come out.

25 - best card game of them all. My mum is a master of this game too and has taught us all. No shortage of turkeys for our family at xmas.

Black jack and gin rummy also favourites.

Like an odd game of spoil 15 for a few pennies now and again.

Ah, or "dropping leaflets in Gaza" as it is otherwise known.

Strip poker is the only card game I want to know.

Is that also known as auction 15? Same as 25 but you buy the hand in the middle?

What is this 25 you speak of ... :p
    Has it got another name?

No doubt about it. 25 is an absolute quality game. The absolute disdain you can have for close family for pulling out the 5 of Hearts!!

Yeah Rummy...3 of one and 4 of another IIRC

This what I'm talking about. Spoil sounds familiar, but can't recall what it was about :o

"Strip" anything! Poker isn't the only game you can use to divest people of their clothes. Giggity.

Used to play switch, can't for the life of me remember how it's played though!

Think that's the game I'm talking about. You bid for the hand in the middle and whoever wins it has to make 5 tricks from the ten cards. If you win, you take the pot. If you lose, you add your bid to the pot.

    This sound familiar?

Ace changes suit. Black jack pick up 7.

2s = pick up 2, this can be countered if you have a 2 also, in which case the person next in line picks up 4, and so on.

    8s = miss a turn

    Queen, reverse direction of play.

Jacks = able to change to a suit of your choice.

A of hearts, person next picks up 5 cards, though can be countered with a 2 of hearts, in which case the person to the left picks up 7, unless they have a 2, , so next in line picks up 9 and so on.

Many a Donegal holiday with cousins was spent playing jack change it. :D

Oh, and who remembers 52 card pick up? :D

25, 45, 110, Whist, and Bridge.. thats all they play around these parts.

Yep, 2s thing is right. Bedlam if 4 people in a row produced a two, pick up 8!

    7 rather than 8 skips?

    Jack reverses direction?

King of Hearts pick up 5 but only countered by a queen??

Can't finish on a trick card and pick up 2 for making a mistake, like not calling last card!

Oooh banjo we'll be arguing on your next trip to Donegal then.

All correct until you got to jacks. Black jack - next person picks up 7 or cancels it with red jack or another black jack meaning next person picks up 14 or cancels with red jack.

    Ace - changes suit.

If you only have black left to pot and opponent has foul shot, 1 or 2 shots on the black?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,426 ✭✭✭Trebor176

Solitaire (Patience). . .And, one of the easiest games on a computer.

    Snap! . .Even easier.

I don't think I've played any others apart from those two.

    Also winner stays on.

You and your mate wanna game, but one of you has to beat Ronnie O-Fcukin-Sullivan 8ver there first to get him off the table.

Only 1 shot on the black!

    No coaching!

I don't like that two shots don't carry. Sh1te rule, opponent had a foul and their problem if they set up your next pot.

There is a version of solitaire called "clock solitaire".

So, there are 13 cards in a suit, but only 12 hours in a clock, so....you lay the cards out as follows:

Start at 1 o clock and lay the cards out one by one in the shape of a clock. Get to 12, and place the 13th card face down in the middle of tcahe clock and start again (all cards face down).

Do this 4 times (13 cards, 4 suits). Uncover the last card that went in the midde.

If it's the 2 of something, place it face up alongside the 2 oclock cards and pick up one of those. Whatever that card is, do the same. So if it's a 6, place it by the 6 pile and take one of thoe face down cards.

Jack is 11pm, Queen is 11pm and the King pile is in the midde of the clock. Kings are your lives, uncover all the kings and it's game over.

    All told, fairly pointless.

25 is not only the best card game, its the best indoor (board) game.
Poker is the second best so long as nobody cheats. Then it the pits.

    110
    25 or with big trump - 31
    a few types of Rummy
    Whist
    a few types of Poker
    Rouge et Noir
    Whist
    Brag
    7s

My favourite is 110 with partners. A few scoops and optimistic over evaluation of the Kitty :D

Poker is the only card game worth playing.

Omaha Hold 'Em being the best version. Then Texas Hold 'Em. Then Stud Poker. Then Draw Poker. Anything else is just pointless faff.

Go fish is the game of the gods.

Pick up 52 was always a fun one to play with your gullible cousins on a wet August thursday afternoon.
