Following his wonderful debut win over Josh Sampo at UFC Dublin on July 19th, Irish flyweight prospect Paddy Holohan has today been handed his second assignment. The Dubliner is set to face off against American Louis Gaudinot on October 4th in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Gaudinot (6-3) last fought on March 8th but tested positive for hydrochlorothiazide, a banned diuretic, after the fight. His submission win over Phil Harris was then changed to a no-contest and he was given a six-month suspension.

The green-haired Gaudinot is a well rounded TUF veteran who has a notable win over top contender John Lineker and will be looking to return to winning ways following his suspension.

Holohan (10-0-1) has never faced defeat and will have no fear of the step up in opponent as he takes on the number 13 ranked 125 lbs fighter in the world. The SBG student looked better than ever in his last outing in both the striking department and on the floor.

The only issue going into his next fight is the possibility of having to compete without his coach, John Kavanagh, who is also due to corner Cathal Pendred in Sweden on the same day.

“I’m so grateful to the UFC for getting me back in the Octagon” commented Holohan

“I don’t care who they put in front of me or where, I’m going to put on the same performance everyone saw in Dublin.”

Wondering who else they'd get to corner him. Maybe Chris Fields. Ais might be freed up by then. Roddy could also be there or could go to Sweden to be second corner man.

I would say Ais the Bash would be a safe bet. Maybe Clive Staunton, he was in Paddy's corner at the Dublin event.

Loads of great people in SBG to corner, so they will have this covered no problem.

Great stuff. Can't wait to see Paddy in action again. Another double event for the UFC in one day though?

Kaledes sent chocolates to Paddy's hotel room and wrote "Pot O' Gold" on it apparently.

    Sounds like a real brainiac.

Probably the fight i've been looking forward to this week. Think Paddy has the skills to put on a really good show and get the win. Much needed after Gunni losing and Pendred winning one of the worst fights i've ever seen.

For that ridiculous chocolate stunt, I hope paddy knocks him clean out.

Paddy has his work cut out for him here. He needed an extra 20 seconds more for that sub

Daly must be very well respected if she's allowed to be Holohan's main cornerman, looking forward to seeing her progress on TUF

So so start but took that round

This is looking like a bad night for the sbg team. Paddy looking rather average on the ground.

    He's done.

From now on, if one goes to war the rest of us should just go and watch.

Tonight highlights how special a talent Conor really is.

Paddy has been very poor on ground tonight. Very very poor

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,552 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

Sometimes Paddy just has to get himself into a better position first. He's constantly trying for subs but if they don't come off you put yourself in some bad positions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,913 ✭✭✭JacksonHeightsOwn

Well that was a massive kick in the balls wasn't it.

Gutted for holohan, he really needs to work on his overall skill set.

With a bit of luck he gets one of the "of the night bonuses", otherwise that's one expensive holiday for him

Just seemed to pass paddys guard into full mount at will there

Never good to lose to a guy coming in on short notice.

Not a great night for SBG cornering anyway.

Ah he was very bad on the ground alright pity really what shocked me was his inability to dig deep maybe he put too much into first round.

Jesus, TUF spoiled anyway unless Daly cuts from 15 stone she isn't in the final

Serious balls though to come out and last the final round. Thought he was done at the end of the 2nd. He was visibly wobbling while his corner ran about looking for a bloody stool.

Maybe we can claim this Irish Dragon lad if he's any good :D:D:D

Pity, I thought paddy was going to do some damage in the ufc, bit of a set back, division is thin though.

3 poor performances from the sbg guys. Later 2 I would have a lot of hope for. Think cathal may struggle

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,970 ✭✭✭Lenin Skynard

Yeah the old Irish takeover isn't really going as planned. Still though, we've been waiting so long to have our own fighters to cheer in the UFC, gotta take the rough with the smooth. We live to fight another day.

Just noticed this was on, is there any good fights to come later?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,590 ✭✭✭CurryFlavoured

I really didn't expect to see Paddy so sloppy on the ground. Kelades coasted into his mount twice.

It looked like Paddy didn't know a whole lot about his opponent. I know that John Kavanagh said in an interview that he goes by youtube videos and Kelades had none so he didn't really worry about his style. Over confidence?

    Hon the Irish Dragon.

Feel bad for paddy, the late change of opponent may have been his undoing....he's a really great fighter but he did take some solid shots in the 2nd that hurt him. Hopefully he still gets a ranked opponent also coming off a loss to get himself back on track!

Just seemed to pass paddys guard into full mount at will there

Just before that he was working a Sean Williams guard (similar to rubber guard) really well but just gave it up and the pass with it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,273 ✭✭✭EuskalHerria

Paddy got fight of the night. I'm not sure if that's more to do with the 'stepped in on short notice' narrative. Either way it will reflect well on him.

From what I saw that Sean Williams guard is grand if you are on your side, but he was flat on his back.

Being flat on your back isn't ideal with most guards tbh.

Just need to maintain the hook, drive the elbow into his face/neck, and hip out. Back on your side.

Edit: I'm not suggesting Paddy didn't know how to get on to his side. Just saying it was a shame he gave it up as its a good attacking position, and being passed led to the mount and eating a pile of strikes.

I thought Paddy looked very gaunt getting into the ring. To me he just didnt look right at all. Had he trouble in weight cut or anything?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,344 ✭✭✭p to the e

Kelades trains with TJ Grant so you can guarantee he's no slouch on the ground. There may have been a touch of underestimation of the opponent due to the last minute change. Who knows how far this Kaledes guy can go now but his pressure grappling looked top notch. Delighted to see Paddy get the 50k FOTN bonus. It's not often you see someone fully mounted and still punching up at the mountee. "ARTEM GET THE ****IN' STOOL! JESUS CHRIST".
