Thankfully Aldi haven't gotten into the condom trade yet, but the Two-Euro Shop have:eek:

Lidl have their own condoms. Am unsure if they do accompanying pregnancy tests though. :pac:

Hmm, Lidl condoms and a bottle of Rachmaninoff, and probably have change from a € 20.

Looks like I might have to amend my skimping rules

...the first time you drink a bottle of it you'll puke your guts up but that's the cleansing phase.

Aldi have some great stuff, as said the O'Shea's range is terrific, and they also have Hobgoblin and Old Speckled Hen ;)

Aldi st etienne lager is really good IMO

Just ****ing no. No. NO.no. We started referring to it as stroke juice due to the facial expressions of its victims after consuming sufficient quantity. Woeful hangover off it too. Also no to the person who mentioned Tesco quality lager. During college it was 10 yoyo's for half a slab. At the time I would have drank dike water but now my taste buds have refined slightly. In saying that I'm still partial to a slab of Carling so maybe I should just be ignored....

Lech.... Lech tastes like infected beer. I've brewed in the past and stubbornly drank quiet a lot of infected beer so I should know. Bought it at a festival, drank all my carling and still couldn't stomach it. Its awful feet beer.

Just to be complete, Dutch gold. Just no. I'll drink everything else though.

Big fan of everything aldi/lidl however their rums are absolute gut rot. And I've consumed some questionable beverages in my time.

Lidl's Putinoff (seriously) vodka would beat a lot of the top shelf vodkas in a blind tasting I would say. I only comes in 500ml bottles. Try it, you will not be disappoint.

    +1 to all this.

Top tip, soak a punnet of strawberries with a table spoon of sugar in a bottle of Putinoff for 3/4 days until they go whitish, then strain and rebottle, seriously classy flavoured vodka on a budget.

Was meaning to post about the Taurus cider in aldi, top notch stuff. Much nicer in the cans though, the 2ltr bottle loses something.

    No! Just No!

Lech is gorgeous beer Imo. I'd rank it slightly better than Tyskie which is great too.

Aldi used to do a very decent Peroni rip off called Rossini that was surprisingly nice for the price.

To be fair, other chains are catching on to their prices and you can often get as a good value elsewhere. For example, Hobgoblin (2 quid) O Hara's Red (1.79) in Tesco currently.

Just google imaged it. You are correct. I was thinking of another 4 letter beer sold in aldi beginning in L. Can't remember its name. Was sold in a sickly green and yellow can.

Lidl have a very nice German lager called Grafenwalder Piemium Pils and for a good price for a crate.

I recognized the name, and googled it to see if it was the same beer I enjoyed before.

It is, but i also came across this great review.

    http://boozereview.co.uk/2012/12/09/grafenwalder-pils/
Grafenwalder pours a large head which quickly disappears. It seems slightly darker in colour compared to other beers, but the can says it’s brewed to German purity laws and I don’t care enough to look into it any further. The beer gives off a standard pilsner aroma which is much more pleasant than I expected. The taste is slightly pissier but still not too bad. It contains notes of Stella Artois, freshly cut grass and that weird taste you get from sh1tty bottled water.

Clontarf Whiskey is not an aldi/lidl brand. You can buy it in plenty of places.

The Old Hopspice white rum is fantastic for Mojitos & at €11.89 is great value

Likewise the €7.99 faux Cointreau orange liqueur is superb for Margueritas

The Aldi Oliver Cromwell London Dry Gin is fantastic and has beaten a lot of expensive gins in blind taste tests.

Aldi Highland Black 8 Yo is a nice alternative to Jameson's. It's more like a cognac in my opinion, it's nice in coke and easy to drink straight.

Aldi Toro Loco Tempranillo red wine is dirt cheap and a good table wine.

Lidl Western Gold Bourbon Whisky is basically a dupe of Jim Beam but cheaper.

Which is why I will never buy it :P

The Grafenwalder pilsner and white beer from Lidl are both gorgeous! As is the perlenbacher pilsner in bottles from aldi all are as nice if not better than the branded stuff.

I was spending a fortune on Desperados before discovering Sombreros a week or so ago.

The price difference is fantastic, as is the taste :D

Another classic to add to the rip off names series: Okey Dokeys, Rossini etc

Perlenbacher is a decent drink strong though

Aldi's 8 year old scotch is decent, both Aldi and Lidl's gin is decent and Lidl's 40% vodka (the mid-range one) is decent too. Lidl's knockoff Baileys is indistinguishable (the dearer of the two options).

Lidl's Irish whiskey is quite rough but its comparable to other Cooley products that are twice the price if you like their taste (Tyrconnell, for instance).

I've had the Löwenstein pilsner from Aldi, and thought it was very nice, even though it's a bit of a fraud: named after a town in Germany but made in France. Which makes me wonder where the Saint-Étienne is made ...

Some fine ales to be had including choice of irish brewed stuff.

However a friend brought over a few cans of that galahad ****e to the house before, went flat after being open for 30 seconds.

You might want to reconsider that friendship. I wouldn't have let him over the threshold.

Thanks for that tip, Cointreau is bloody expensive.

Reduced to 5.99 for 50 cl in Aldi Mullingar. Had to buy 2 at that price.:)

A few posters mentioned ALDI's Taurus cider. I like it, and its even drinkable when its not as cold as you'd like. Its not the same as Bulmers, but I couldn't say if they make it. What I mostly drink is Woodgate cider from LIDL. For some marketing reason, if you buy it in 2L flagons it is 25% cheaper than in the cans :) (3.79 for 2L vs 4.29 for 4x440mL)
