I've been looking at the fitness bands in Argos and Harvey Normans. There are so many different types I don't know which would suit me. I'm a competitive person and I want to get back into running so they seem ideal. Any comments or honest reviews whether good or bad appreciated.

What do you want to use them for?

To keep me motivated. It'll be used for my running and general weight loss

But what functions do you want it to have?

As you said there are many different types. Unless you give people details if what you are looking for, it's hard to make useful suggestions

    this:
    http://jawbone.com/store/buy/up24

It just does its job... no distracting screen or buttons. Just wear it & analyse your data on your phone either in real time or after your workout...

I have the jawbone up 24, the best thing about it is the app. It's great for keeping track of what you eat and it breaks it down into protein, carbs etc. The sleep tracker is ok, it's more of a rough estimate on the amount you sleep. Another handy thing is that if you use an app like runkeeper, it syncs with that so your run will be added to your daily schedule and the calories burned added. That takes away the need to have GPS inbedded in the device. I find it motivates me to get out more, definitely worth buying. It doesn't have a hearth rate monitor in it either. From the reviews I have read about other bands, it has the best app.

Oooh that sounds like exactly what I'm looking for :) i was looking at the fitbit force online which has everything that has but it has a screen.. Could be forever though before it comes out.. Has anyone bought a fitbit and regretted it?

I loved my Jawbone, when it worked! Got one in March and it only lasted 6 weeks before dying. Jawbone replaced it no problem with a brand new one. But it's never worked at all! :(

Again they offered to replace it but i'm trying to get a refund now and maybe try another brand instead. They're playing hardball on the refund though as I didn't purchase directly from the Jawbone eStore. I recommend going this route if you are going to buy it.

In fairness to their support team, they were very helpful etc but I think you've more of a comeback for defected goods if you buy it direct from them.
Strongly contemplating just taking the replacement, but then again, i've only had a working Up for 6 weeks since the end of March!

My jawbone has been working since April without any problems.

I'm not saying there's a problem with them all, but a quick google will show loads that don't work. I reckon I was just incredibly unlucky to get two duds! I still recommend getting one, but would buy direct from Jawbone if given the choice again as there's more of a comeback if it does break down.

I've had a Fitbit One for a couple of years. Before that I used an Omron clip-on pedomenter which I liked but there was no way to upload the data. With the Fitbit, I can view distance walked on phone/tablet/laptop and it gives me weekly totals, etc. I love my Fitbit.

I clip the Fitbit on as soon as I get up in the morning and take it off last thing at night so it counts steps (also counts stairs climbed) all day. The only thing I don't like is that if I drive somewhere esp if it's a bumpy road, it counts that too so I end up with a huge daily total. I did download an app which can be used to turn the Fitbit off and on while driving but I've never figured out how to use it.

This morning I used mapmyrun for the first time. I know the walk I did was about three miles but mapmyrun recorded it as about five miles. It added in some spurs to my walk. Anyone have experience with this app and know if it can be trained to be more accurate?
