Yea. I've picked up on that. What's the big deal about saying it in advance. It would be nice to know.

Their sense of their own importance is such that they feel telling the audience they are taking a day off might drive them to despair. God forbid Nicky Byrne might gain a couple of listeners.

They are a very big deal you know.

I don't listen to them but why do Dermot & Dave take days off together?
Jenny Greene covers for Nicky Byrne & vice versa

Great hearing joe again. Yeah I get if he was presenting to a mainstream audience, people might not get him. Incredibly dry humour which worked great in txfm. Bring back Joe and TX!

Anyone know where Dermot has gone? Wasn't on the show Friday or today.

Dave was saying on Friday he has a really bad chest infection.

Does anyone agree they would be an ideal replacement for Rick O'Shea on 2FM on weekend mornings? Maybe an RTE-Communicorp swap with Rick getting a mid morning show on Today FM if he doesn't return to 2FM?

The Cancer Society night nurses are just plain amazing

And speaking of 2FM isn't it ironic that the first hour of D&D clashes with the last hour of Jen and Bernard (and Keith)'s Breakfast Republic? Dermot vs Bernard...

Fred Cooks comes on, i turn off.

Today fm is just a merry go round of stand up comedians these days.

If comedians arent presenting they have other comedians on as guests. So lazy.

    Is Fred pissed or what??
    Also he’s here all week

Fred Cooke's radio days pre-date his comedy days I believe.

I have been told be an insider that next weeks jnlr will show a dramatic collapse of Dermot and Daves listenership figures (=70k) so if they get the bullet, what presenter(s)/format should replace them ?

Two threads, minutes apart, predicting the demise of D&D. One might think you've an axe to grind.

Maybe they'll swap with a current 2FM presenter?

I don't see them going from Today FM anytime soon, way too many changes their in recent months, more so from a structural point of view with Today FM and the other communicorp stations all coming together in one building. Would be a bizarre move to swap them out when they are all over the station promotions. They could wind up moving slots again. Be interesting to see what the future holds for Al Porter, haven't heard much of him on air but he seems to be building his own profile away from radio anyway so he could be gone again soon... Anyway, not a Today FM thread. On the other side, why would 2fm want DD if they get the axe from Today FM? And if they don't and they try poach them, they would surely have contracts that prevent them from working for anyone else for a period of time after their resignation

Just noticed the first page of this thread is linking them with 2fm, from 4 years ago...

I would have thought Newstalk would have snapped him up, as i heard he gave Moncrieff an interview after The Restaurant, afaik an ex team member's on Moncrieff's show,

But now i hear on BOC Cutting Edge tonite that Ciara Kelly's got Hook's slot permanent from Today!

Apologies, my error there. The posts have now been moved to the correct thread.

John McMahon should have given D&D the 2FM breakie show in 2010 when Colm and Jim Jim were axed. They were a huge missed opportunity for 2FM. An hour of D&D actually clashes with the last hour of Breakfast Republic, which features two of Dermot Whelan's Republic of Telly co stars. Al Porter appeared on that very show early into his career as well. And he was another presenter who NEARLY got a show on 2FM but ended up on Today FM instead!

Why would they snap him up, seeing as he left their sister station under a cloud? Besides, his show haemorrhaged listeners, suggesting he didn't connect with audiences in the way Ray D'Arcy did (God help us all). That may well have killed his broadcasting career stone dead.

I liked his show and was sorry to see it go. I would love to hear him back in the airwaves but if that's ever to happen, it's not going to be on a Communicorp station.

Well there's me hoping, if since they invited him on to come in & talk, especially if he has to walk past his ex Today fm members

Not going to happen, unfortunately. Even if his colleagues all liked him, that's not going to get him another show. Unless there's a change of management or something comes up on RTE, I fear this is the last we'll hear of him on the wireless :(

started a new job a month ago where they have today fm on all day. have to say its quite awful. they seem to play imagine dragons on rotation on the station every 3 hours or so and a few other limited songs. Its quite shocking how the station has gone downhill in the last few years looking to target the "youth" audience with D&D and Al Porter.

Just move them to the dead space between 12 and 2.30 instead of firing in every other presenter with a bit of spare time and needing an increased profile. The show was successful there and should be again.

Then return to a mixed magazine/music type show for the 9-12 slot preferably with someone that doesn't feel they have to be buzzing around like some blue-ar$ed positivity fly every second of the show.

The music selection in today fm has gone drastically downhill and Coopers show has gone to the dogs and hes gone far on the liberal scale. and the 5 at 5 is dreadful, the most embarrassing one was the woman who does it was giggling like a teenager and the girls in the news team were fighting over who got to interview Trudeau ...The only saving grace is Ed's show and McLoones one

I was off sick from work the last couple of days and I had Today FM on in the background at home. Overall, it's fairly inane stuff from Dempsey right through to Al Porter. Nothing too taxing and the odd humorous moment. I can't believe I'm actually saying this but I don't mind Al so much. He's harmless enough, you could have his show on in the background without getting too upset / developing the urge to kill.... which is exactly what took hold of me 10 minutes into Ferg D'Arcy's show. In a word - AWFUL.

Dermot and Dave are hilarious. Best show on Today fm. Look forward to it every morning. Would be sad to see it go.
Muireann and the other girls always make me laugh too.
