What in the name of f*ck is this all about and why should I give a f*ck?
I don't know who most of these 'celebs' are anyway.
Is this the new neknomination thing for even bigger bellends?

It's for Motor Neurone Disease, to raise money and awareness.

Also, this is the best one.

You obviously give a f*ck about it if you took the care to login to boards and create a thread moaning about it.

Sounds to me you're just jealous you haven't been nominated yet

I'd love to know how much these totally self-sacrificing " celebs" know about Motor Neurone Disease...

That is a lot of anger for something you don't know anything about! :pac:

It's Lou Gehrig's disease, and the ice bucket thing has raised millions towards it.

They don't have to know anything about it once they're opening their wallets and encouraging others to.

Half the people in the world probably don't have a clue what their ****eing on about regardless of the topic.

As someone who has lost a parent to the ALS form of Motor Neurone I'm delighted it's happening. Anything that raises money for the IMNDA is great in my eyes.

It's all fun and games until the ice knocks someone queer on the head and kills them. People are getting out of hand with this malarkey.

    22.9 to be exact.

Its an awful disease. I donated money to it today but didn't do the ice bucket. It was because of this campaign that i did donate so its good in that way. Its raising awareness in the minds of people who would know nothing about it. So long as its getting people to dip their hand in their pocket and donate then great. Its nothing like the neck nominations craze, that was a pile of self destructive crap with no redeeming features. This is a good cause.

    My aunt died from it.

My point was that people in a position of power or celebrity can do more good to educate their fans by raising proper awareness. In 3 months time, the masses will just remember that Charlie Sheen poured ice over his head and not that the charity he was working for. No longterm gain for the charity but it keeps the celeb in the public eye.

10k from Charlie Sheen if you watch the vid above!

Raised 22.9 million raised so far (from another link above).

Charlie sheen didn't pour ice over his head, he poured 10,000 dollars over his head and then donated it. You didn't even watch his video did you?

I hate that kind of ****. If having a load of millionaires dumping some ice-water over their heads is what it takes to make people want to be charitable then saving people isn't worth it in the first place

I'm thinking that ALS started it as a challenge that went, as the cool kids say, 'viral'. You know like those pier to pier walks for aware, or the darkness in to light walk for pieta house or some randomer taking a batch in beans for <insert charity name here>.

Like most charity crazes, it's a bit hammy but if it raises money for a terrible disease (my wife's dad died from it when she was young) I can easily live with it.

Apologies. I did. I meant to type Justin Bieber - my daughter was showing a clip at the time.

In fairness, Charlie won't remember doing it in 3 months.

So what do you suggest? A parade? An article in the Daily Mail? A new romantic comedy about cancer starring Adam Sandler?

already happened. Some guy here in NZ had a heart attack and died from the shock of the cold.

I dunno.. I mean you'd think that having one of the most successful, prolific and popular scientists of the last century regularly appear on TV with ALS would be enough to raise awareness of ALS and sympathy for its sufferers

But no, the dumping of ice-water over people's heads seems to be what's doing it.

What a time to be alive

Raising awareness and doing basically a 'dare' in the process for a worthy cause?

The apathy in this thread is appalling. It's that reason why we're f*cked as a species.

He didnt pour ice over his head, he put money in the bucket and donated 10k to to the charity.

Do people not even bother watching the stuff they're pretending to be annoyed about anymore?

I guess they've no time. Too busy taking out the inadequacies in their daily life on other things rather than themselves. Misspent anger.

People are more likely to donate something when they know what it is they're donating towards, that'd be the raising awareness part.

I'd agree that sh1te like posting your bra colour and stupid nonsensical facebook games to "raise awareness" (without actually telling people what it is you're making them aware of, you absolute geniuses) is a load of crap. At the end of it all hey it's a good cause and now a charity is 20 odd million quid better off, so what harm.

People do crazy stuff to raise money for charity all the time. This is no different. Never ceases to amaze me that people will tear strips off anyone doing something relatively harmless, that's a bit of fun and raising money for charity.

Please fill us in. What's the specific thing about this that irks you?

Is it the charity or their method? Because I don't see anyone knocking on my door forcing me to donate and pour ice water over my head.
