    Hello everybody,

    My name is Diarmuid and I am currently completing my master's thesis in Project Management and I have an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering. I am new to this forum but I was hoping I could ask if anyone from a research and design background would be interested in taking part in my research.

    My thesis is basically looking at combing a software development methodology with the traditional mechanical design process. If anyone is currently working on projects of an R&D nature or has past experience on the area I would be grateful if you would consider taking part. It would require approximately 20-30 minutes of your time.

    My 2c, mech eng who has worked in software-focused companies. Software development has some great tools for design management (revision and configuration control etc.) which also work for mech design. However, using a typical software development strategy (build, branch, fix, merge etc.) just doesn't apply in a mech context. In short, it's too expensive to continually iterate mech designs to iron out bugs, while it's accepted for software.
