Looking for high hcp players in Dublin

    Hi all,

I just moved to Dublin and I'm looking for high handicap players in the city to play with. Seeing as I know nobody in Dublin who plays, and I'm a beginner myself (mid to high 90's), it would be nice to play with somebody who is at the same level as me in the learning curve. Unfortunately, I don't have a car so a course next to a public transportation line would suit me best. Let me know if you're interested!
    Kind regards,
    Jacob

    Hi Jacob,

I would be interested in organizing a game. Unfortunately, I would be in the boat as yourself car wise.

What courses do we have in the area that are accessible with public transport?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 126 ✭✭Moat_Cailin

Would be fairly restricted. The odd time that I would go for a game myself, i'd normally head to Deer Park in howth. Not the greatest course, but, its accessible and you can turn up and play.

26 h/c high enough for you!? Older guy, happy to play a social game with easy-going people. Live southside, so familiar with Stepaside GC 9 Holes only, (run by Dun Laoghaire Co. Council) is very good value & in good condition. Also Stepaside Golf Centre & Driving Range with Par3. Both accessible by Enniskerry bus (44?) from city centre. May be able to collect in cc & drive to e.g Deerpark. Or Elm Green GC, Blanchardstown, D.15, [owned by Fingal Co. Co.] also very good value & condition.

    Hey Hickoryhack,

That sounds great. I will go down to Cork to fetch my bag and clubs that were left behind in the move this coming weekend. I will be available to play after that. If it's not too much trouble for you, getting picked up in city center would suit me very well. I work out in East Point Business Park and live on Parnell Street (close to Cineworld). I haven't played any of the courses up here in Dublin yet so I'd be happy to go with your advise. The one with best value would suit me fine. I'll send you a private message after this coming weekend.
    God, I love internet!

OK, PM me when you ready to go. Suppose you're generally interested in weekends or are you free any weekdays? H.hack.

Also I'd be interested in Deerpark, Howth, as I've not played it in years. H.hack.

    I am a very short hitting 23

What courses are you playing, gypsy79?

I live very close to Elmgreen and shoot mid-high 90's and I have a car if pickups where needed. Looking for similar standard player to get a few games in with too.

I can do collecting if close enough and willing to share petrol cost.

Generally play at the weekends but can take the occasional weekday too to play.

I genereally play either Elm Green or Sillogue just for easiness but always open to whatever is on teetimes/golfnow

Quick look on my app shows recent rounds in Elm Green (94) Charlesland, (99) Lisheen Springs (99) Grange Castle (102) and Stackstown (111 in attrocious weather) to give ya an idea of standard

    AM away this weekend tho!

    Hi all.

If you can post when you are planning to go out that would be great.

I can't usually plan far ahead but if a day suits and you have room I would be up for it.

    Thanks

We all started somewhere!! I've found playing with lower handicap players actually helped my game and still does. You'll also pick up some great tips on the way as well.

I've got those playing partners already.

I just thought sometimes it would be nice to go around with no one telling you what you are doing wrong :D

Hopefully none of us will be using this thread for very long.

The only way is down :D

Yeah for me I find it hard to get a game so trying in most places.

Also afraid of pissing of a low handicapper zig zagging around course. Much prefer to get a bit of competition going to drive me to getting handicap lower.

Wow! I went offline for a day and came back to all these posts. Amazing! Great to see that I'm not the only one that is looking for players shooting in the 90's to play with!
I am going to Cork this weekend to get my clubs and will be available to play starting Monday. I work until 16:00, mon-fri, but besides that I'm up for games in and around Dublin (depending on green fee cost of course).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 300 ✭✭pakman

Well this never really came to anything in the end. Anybody about for a game in Elmgreen tomorrow afternoon?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 theboycanwrite

Me and Moat_Callin have been out two times so the thread isn't a complete waste of time. ;)
I'm busy tomorrow, otherwise I would have joined you. Send me a PM with your contact details and we'll schedule something.

    Pakman,
yep an early game would be great this weekend, either sat or sunday. I have 2 small kids so if I can get out earlyish that suits me. Any golf course if you have a preference.

have been a member there for last year taught i'd make it out a lot more than i did but 50 min drive limited that, might join Grange Castle, but would probably make a trip down again, good value and in good nick

Lads have a look at the Irish chapter of the worldwide 'mediocre golf association'. (Yes its a real thing). We play 8 'tournaments' a year for really interesting trophies and big cheques. If you can shoot a 90 you're usually good enough to win. Break 80 and you're disqualified because you're not mediocre. Lol. Its great craic. Six of us are starting off the 2015 season on 4th April in elmgreen. We're playing around dublin this year to try and get the numbers up a bit, and we'd welcome some new 'medios'. Anyways have a look, l'm sure some of you will like it.

I'm probably around 18 handicapper but I'm not a member of any club and don't have a handicap. I've recently moved to Dublin and looking to play a few courses. I'd be interested if date and time suits.
