Interesting theory about the lean meat causing the cardiovascular disease rather than the saturated fat. I'm a big meat eater myself and watching the program is making me question the wisdom of having meat at the centre of my diet.

I don't think it was clear cut. There was no talk of what else people where eating with their meat, what their meals looked like etc. You could see Michael Mosley eating bread, fried onion rings etc with his meals and by the looks of it he ate a lot more processed meat and processed food so that could have lead to his blood pressure, cholesterol and weight gain. I don't see why red meat was put into the same category of testing as processed meat. I would have liked to see them test on freshly cut grass fed meat with a diet rich in fresh fruit/veg.

They measured his body fat with what looked like a resistance based device, notorious for being bad. They said he put on 3kg of fat and I think said it was around the waist. I did not catch how much weight he put on though, if he put on no actual weight I would be checking the body fat measurement method rather than just accepting he put on 3kg, 6.6lb.

When they looked at the 7th day adventist study they did at least mention the flaw in most studies, that peoples lifestyles are not identical bar food, e.g. a vegetarian on average is probably less likely to drink & smoke & partake in health endangering activities. They were saying adventists were not big drinkers or smokers, but I do imagine there were other differences between the vegetarian and meat eating adventists.

I imagine vegetarians have a lower calorie intake in general, and lower calorie intake is linked to longevity.
