    Hi,

I recently moved back to Ireland with my family.I'm staying with my mother who uses a detergent called 'formil biological liquid capsules'. My son has broken out in a rash and I'm almost certain it's this detergent.
Can anyone help pls? Tk you so much

i used this for the first time a few weeks ago, it was on special offer in Lidl, big mistake. My hands were covered in an itchy rash and my left eye became swollen and itchy. I stopped using the capsules but still had to take antihistamines until my skin settled down.

Tks for that, my son has had this rash since the first night we came and that's 6wks ago. Had to get steroid cream as well as antihistamines but when I stop using steroid cream a few days lateriit starts to come back. My Mum has everything washed with this stuff, I've rewashed sheets towels and our clothes that were washed with it. I think it may take a few washes to rid everything of it.

Swith to a non biological washing powder, which is less likely to cause allergies.

Also in case you aren't aware, there have been many accidents with those liqui tabs, with children swallowing them and they burn the oesophagus, so make sure they are out of reach.

My mother in law uses aldi/lidl brand detergent and my daughters skin was affected when we were down with her for a week. We personally use Fairy. I don't like the smell of clothes washed in Fairy but its ok with my daughter.
If you can get your mother onboard with spending the extra money on branded detergent don't forget you'll need to clean out the washing machine.
Run it on 90° for a couple of washes with nothing in it ( clothes or detergent ). You'll also want to clean out the powder drawer etc.

    Hope this helps you.

Tks to all of you, I'm new on boards so i am glad I joined now ! My son is 11yrs old and I've switched to the usual detergent I've used for yrs ie. Surf. What I need now is a cure for this rash while this detergent is slowly being phased out. I'm not happy to keep using steroid cream,
a natural remedy I'm all for. Any help there? Tks again.

i have used aloe vera juice and found it really helpful, it doesn't taste too nice though. You could try giving your son antihistamine tablets, this helped me by stopping the itching. I only took them for a week by that time my skin had settled down.

I have given him antihistamines before he sleeps so he rests with the itching. Tks for your help Millie35, Rosebush and Googled eyes... I appreciate it

Calamine lotion is very soothing for allergy rashes, but can make a mess of the sheets and things - it's a pretty vivid pink iirc, and is inclined to flake a bit as it dries.

Cool baths/showers will help a little, and tea tree lotion afterwards could be another alternative. Aloe vera gels are nice too. With anything you're using, try keeping it in the fridge to give some extra cooling when putting it on.

As his skin is obviously already inflamed/sensitive, try doing a patch test of anything you use before spreading it all over him. I've never heard of anyone having a reaction to either tea tree or calamine, but better safe than sorry.
