A catch all place for bit and pieces news and comment
Starting with the revelation that stadiums are not as full as you'd expect ;)

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/arsenal/11033221/Arsenal-announce-attendances-6000-higher-than-official-Met-Police-figures.html
Data published on the blog 'a is for arsenal' following a Freedom of Information request to the MPS shows the latter recorded an average attendance of 53,788 at the 60,338-capacity ground for all Arsenal matches last season, an occupancy figure of 89.1 per cent.

That is almost 10 per cent lower than the 99.1% average released by the club and would suggest an alarming number of no-shows for matches – 173,945 in total during 2013-14, or an average of 6,550 per game.

Such stark figures are not limited to Arsenal either, with a similar FOI request to Greater Manchester Police last season revealing it had recorded much lower attendances for Manchester United matches at Old Trafford than the club, the difference in one case being almost 25,000.

I think most of us already knew this was the case in fairness.

Also Palace manager Tony Pulis is threatening to walk over lack of funds.

    http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tony-puliss-crystal-palace-future-in-doubt-as-steve-parish-refuses-to-confirm-he-will-be-in-charge-for-opener-9669080.html
Tony Pulis’s position as Crystal Palace boss was thrown into doubt today after betting on him leaving the club was suspended and co-chairman Steve Parish was unable to confirm the manager would be in charge for Saturday’s Premier League opener.

Pulis joined Palace last November with their top-flight future on the line but he was named Premier League Manager of the Year in May after keeping the club in the division.

The 56-year-old took training at the club’s HQ today, however, Standard Sport understands he has clashed with Parish on several occasions during the summer over new signings

That is doing my head in,

401 should be SS1 and so on until SS5,

If they are moving SSN anyways, why did they not just create a new number?

It was the same with illegal streaming. A couple of seasons ago they were going to clamp down on it, no pubs would be able to show games at 3pm etc etc. A couple of weeks later and some other card or box had come on the market and it was all systems go again. It's the same with streaming websites. As soon as one shuts down another one appears.

Was talking more about vines on boards rather than the internet in general. Shame, as they were a great feature of match threads last season.

Just out of curiosity is the ban on vines a pre-emptive 'we're getting rid of them before anybody threatens us' or is it a case that there have been warnings given to boards previously? Practically every other football related website on the net have continued with their vine/gif usage today.

In relation to vines it is pre-emptive yeah, but I'm fairly sure boards has received warnings and letters about other copyright issues. Not something I know a lot about. In fact I know practically nothing about it. We just have to do what the people in HQ tell us on this.

It is a stinking shame though, they were great for threads for sure.

    @Pighead

sure wasn't it you brought it up in the first place anyway? pacman.gif

boards are scared shítless of getting sued, perhaps rightly, from what i've read on threads on anything that'd possibly give them bother.

combination of a lack of resources + strict irish libel laws the reasons given mostly, though those threads are usually on a lock/removal of discussion on whoever.
with copyright it's pretty similar, possibly illegal = no go

Just to touch on what DG said already. It is indeed pre-emptive, but based on edicts the site received in the past with regards to things like the publishing/providing links to streams of EPL copyrighted material and the like.

Like DG, I am another who loved to see a gif or Vine vid pop up in a match thread during a game, because it really did provide the spark for some cracking discussions/debate.

It is not a popular move, but it is the right one for the site has to make at present. Things may change when more is known, but for now it is what it is.

    This is fairly ridiculous tbh.

Getting sued would be a disaster for Boards no doubt but if all it takes is a vague, threatening and likely baseless letter to make the hierarchy sh*t themselves and change policy, there is something wrong.

Surely somebody involved with the running of Boards has a friend or relative with some knowledge of the law or somebody who works in the industry. Somebody who would be more than happy to help bat this sort of rubbish away free of charge and have the legal knowledge to back it up.

Honestly if you guys asked for help with a sticky on the legal forum, you would get a bunch of volunteers. These people would likely enjoy their newfound legend status throughout the site. :P

To be fair, anything of a legal nature does get run past the correctly qualified folk and their advice is what shapes what gets fed down to forum level for the rest of us.

I think if you only have to look at how the likes of Squawka have responded today to see that a lot of sites are not regarding it as a vague threat from the EPL.

People don't like it, people are taking the pee out of it, but you are not going to see too many sites wanting to be the test case for all of this, certainly not any medium to high volume site anyway.

It is just something that the site will err on the side of caution over until more facts are known. As said in a few other threads already, we may see a relaxing on this rule in ther future depending on what comes from those with the aforementioned legal knowledge, but for now it is just something we all have to go along with with regards to posting in this forum.

    Results from today:

    08a61f93de3208b298bd2e9b8adf0521.png

I watched Chelsea v Leicester. Leicester can count themselves a bit unlucky I think. Nugent missed a one-on-one at 0-0 midway through the second half. Very good stop from Courtois. Chelsea got the job done ultimately however.

Good result for West Ham at Palace. A big few weeks coming up for Palace with their managerial appointment and some very winnable games.

Ah the old school graphics were just brill and in particular the clock showing how much of the forty five minutes had elapsed. :)

Think they might have missed a trick though by not putting the name of the scorer on the screen after a goal

Jose Mourinho wants "time outs" (ugh!) in both halfs for additional coaching tip time.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/chelsea/11054046/Jose-Mourinho-calls-on-footballs-lawmakers-to-allow-NFL-style-timeouts-during-play-for-coaching-purposes.html
Jose Mourinho has called on the International Football Association Board, world football’s rule maker, to allow managers an NFL-style ‘timeout’ in each half to coach their players.

“Football is very slow to change the rules,” Mourinho said.

“How many years have we had to wait for goalline technology? I hope I am still in football when they give the coach the chance to stop the game during the first half once and during the second half because you can make the game much better.”

    Seriously - feck off!

    What's wrong with touchline instructions?

Ah yes, how else will he reaffirm to all of his players on field to stay behind the ball as they are 1-0 up against a decent team and at the same time his little timeout would be killing any momentum the other team can build up

What a truly detestable man he is. He is probably the only one this side of the Atlantic calling for this utterly daft rule to be brought in but yet he has the bare faced cheek to mention this 'innovation' in the same sentence as goal line technology. This is just another brain fart littered with his own vested interest. It has to be all about his ego as he wants to be seen on camera relaying his instructions to the players. He really is a horrible little man

He does have a point though, the wage difference between the premier league and championship is huge so a club after been relegated should be given time to get there house in order again, although isn't that what parachute payments are for to offset the PL overheads.

So with transfer activity for the first half of the season done what are people's takes?

Chelsea look like top dogs for me though at the bottom I dont think any team stands out as being too far off a few others.

Chelsea look to be one Costa injury away from disaster! ;) They can't defend, City are clearly a bit weaker than expected with a few out, Liverpool are stuttering with their own injuries, Utd thrashed a hapless QPR so that remains to be seen. Actually every team looks thoroughly vulnerable.
